I can't believe this is a place for education; it clearly feels like a protest.
Xiao Minxing, what's going on? Are you trying to drive your father crazy? He was already holding back a lot, and hearing such words made his face turn dark. His gaze finally shifted to me as he impatiently said, "We're discussing family matters; outsiders don't need to listen."
I was feeling awkward when I saw Xiao Minxing turn his attention to the two sisters and calmly say, "Why don't you two step out for a moment?"
Not just me, everyone present looked at him strangely. Old Master Xiao was so furious that he was breathing heavily. If it weren't for decades of self-restraint, I wondered if he would have stood up and cursed.
Xiao Minxing stood up from his seat, his expression neither servile nor overbearing. He looked around at everyone present and said calmly, "Qiu Yuhan is my wife, Xiao Minxing. From the moment she entered the Xiao Family, she became mine and part of the Xiao Family. Now she is also carrying a grandchild of the Xiao Family. I don't know who you mean by 'outsider,' Father. If it's us, I'll take her away right now. If not, I hope you can get to the point quickly, okay?"
His tone didn't seem to carry any intention of showing off or exaggerating, but such words spoken in the Living Room of the Xiao Family Ancestral Home undoubtedly pierced everyone's hearts like a thorn.
Only the gazes of the two Xiao Family sisters felt like knives scraping against me.
Mrs. Xiao finally looked at me seriously for the first time since I entered and after such a long time since the divorce.
Old Master Xiao was unwilling but had no choice; he must have needed something from Xiao Minxing today. He took two heavy sips from his cup and then turned away from me, asking, "Have you all heard about your elder brother's situation?"
No one spoke.
Xiao Minxing held my hand tightly. Upon hearing his father's words, he didn't even glance that way but instead smiled at me with a smirk.
I gently pinched him with my nails, intending to remind him not to go too far; things almost got out of hand earlier. However, he widened his eyes and asked, "What?"
Alright, everyone turned their attention back to us.
I felt like I wanted to die out of shame; I didn't even have the courage to look at Old Master Xiao, pretending nothing had happened and lowering my head.
The atmosphere in the Living Room was bizarrely tense; you could even hear people's breathing.
After a long silence, Old Master Xiao finally spoke again. This time his voice was much lower as he briefly explained Xiao Minfeng's situation and then asked, "What solutions do you have now?"
No one spoke up.
Old Master Xiao glanced over at Xiao Minxing, his mouth opened, but then he turned to Xiao Huiying and asked, "Minying, what do you think?"
Xiao Minying also looked over at Xiao Minxing before speaking, "What other options do we have now? Li Ru has already transferred all the money from the Xiao Family, and even the lawyer can't trace it. All the expenses are accounted for, and they are all attributed to my elder brother."
Xiao Minhui couldn't hold back any longer upon hearing this: "We shouldn't have given them most of the assets in the first place. If I had known my elder brother wouldn't amount to anything and that Li Ru had such ambition..."
This statement struck directly at Old Master Xiao's heart. He glared at Xiao Minhui and said resentfully, "Should it all have gone to you? You should take a look at yourself; I heard you led a disturbance at Xiao Minxing's company not long ago. What were you making a fuss about?"
The father and daughter truly understood each other; when Xiao Minhui stabbed her father with words, Old Master Xiao returned the favor without hesitation.
At this point, Xiao Minhui was losing her rationality and shouted, "Dad, I know you are biased. When we divided the family assets, you gave all the good ones to my elder brother. Now that the Xiao Family is in decline, you still give the remaining assets to Xiao Minxing. What do you want us two daughters to do? It would have been better if you had just killed us at birth."
Old Master Xiao jumped up but then swayed to one side.
Mrs. Xiao rushed over to support him, and Xiao Minying quickly followed suit. With the help of a servant from the Xiao Family, they managed to settle Old Master Xiao down again.
He could no longer see Xiao Minhui and pointed towards the entrance, saying, "Get out! This is no longer your home; go wherever you want."
Xiao Minhui stiffened her neck and really stood up to walk outside.
This nearly made Old Master Xiao faint with anger again. After taking some medicine and drinking water, Mrs. Xiao helped him calm down for a while before he slowly recovered, feeling much older and his gaze less sharp than before.
He glanced at Xiao Minying and said, "You should go back too."
Xiao Minying stood still and instead shifted her gaze towards Xiao Minxing.
But what was this Good Fellow doing? He hadn't been paying attention to what anyone was saying throughout; it was as if a flower had grown on my hand. He held on tightly as if studying it for a long time, seemingly oblivious to how furious Old Master Xiao was.
I tried to pull my hand away, but he gripped it tighter and looked up at me asking, "Why do you want to run away?"
I must admit I regretted coming today. Perhaps if I hadn't shown up, Xiao Minxing would have acted more normally—at least like he used to when he would maintain a serious demeanor even if he wore a cold expression. Now he seemed like a debauched young man under some sort of enchantment, completely oblivious to the world around him and only focused on women.
Xiao Minfeng originally lost because of this matter, so it’s easy to imagine how angry Old Master Xiao was when he saw his expression.
In the end, he waved his hand and said, “Go on, all of you leave. Don’t come back unless it’s necessary.”
Well then, just like that, we were all kicked out and went to our respective garages to drive our own cars.
Xiao Minxing seemed quite relaxed, as if he was particularly happy about leaving a little earlier. He even asked me, “How about I accompany you to go out for a stroll? You haven’t been out lately; you must be feeling cooped up, right?”
I shot him a glance and said, “Are you okay? What’s wrong with you today? Are you running a fever?”
Xiao Minying was a few steps away from us. I didn’t know if she could hear our conversation, but when I glanced at her, her expression was quite strange.
Neither side said a word as Car left the old house and headed home.
I couldn’t hold back any longer and asked Xiao Minxing, “What’s wrong with you? You’re about to drive Father crazy.”
He looked at me oddly and said, “Why do you like to frame your husband so much? It’s someone else who made him angry; why does it have to fall on me?”
I let out a sigh; I really didn’t know what to do with him anymore.
“Fine, even if it was Xiao Minhui who upset him, you still can’t act like that! Isn’t he your father? Now that something has happened, he called you all back to discuss it. You guys are just... Ugh, thinking about it makes me not want to have kids at all. If they treat me like you do in the future, won’t I just die from anger?”
