Mina adjusted her expression and finally shifted her gaze to the notebook in front of me.
She flipped through it for about ten minutes before looking up and asking me meaningfully, "Did you do this plan yourself?"
I glanced at the things I had written in the notebook and said a bit sheepishly, "If this can be called a plan, then yes, I did it."
Mina continued to flip through the pages, her mouth not stopping: "What do you mean 'can be'? This is a plan, not just any plan, but quite complete and detailed. I didn't realize it before, Anan. You must have been underappreciated working at that little rundown hotel. I dare say, with a little training and given a position as deputy manager, you could handle it well."
I knew she was trying to comfort me, so I didn't take it to heart and just replied, "I've noticed you're quite talkative now. You go on and on about trivial matters without getting to the point. You weren't like this before."
Just as Mina was about to speak, we heard Zhuo Feng outside saying something: "It's all my fault; I can't blame her."
Mina and I turned our heads simultaneously to see Zhuo Feng entering the room. She took my notebook and said, "Come on, Brother Feng, take a look at this. Anan wants to work in the Comic field. She has some background and recently reviewed in a Training Class, so she should be quite skilled now. Do you have any connections in this area? I'm asking for an introduction."
I glanced at Mina; this girl must really be doing better if she could talk to Zhuo Feng so normally, which reassured me.
She was different from me; she worked hard and had enough ability. Whether in life or work, she deserved better. As for the man she had never mentioned, let's just consider it a bit of hardship experienced along life's journey.
Zhuo Feng was already looking at what I had written, but perhaps due to a man's perspective or because he wasn't Mina and didn't need to consider my feelings, he spoke very straightforwardly.
"The plan is good, but do you have any inventory on hand right now?"
At this point, I truly felt uneasy and looked at him saying, "No, I want to first find a recipient and then intentionally create according to their requirements. Wouldn't that be better and safer?"
Zhuo Feng immediately asked, "Then if you don't have any works or previous achievements, why would others accept you as a newcomer?"
This time, Mina interrupted him before I could respond, speaking in a rather dismissive tone, "Anan posted two series of comics online a while ago, and the response was quite good. Moreover, some people have already talked to her privately."
What she said was not wrong, but after she returned from her business trip and we discussed with those who wanted the copyright, she pretty much gave up. It was completely unreliable; many people were just using this as an excuse to pursue other interests.
Mina brought it up now just to give me more confidence in front of Zhuo Feng. However, I knew that Zhuo Feng was more rational about this matter. Mina wanted to help me too much; as the saying goes, "too much concern leads to chaos," and many things would be viewed subjectively, which was not beneficial for my current situation.
Thinking about this, I looked at Zhuo Feng and said, "Zhuo Feng, I know this is difficult. Actually, coming to you is just one of the options. I will work harder during this time in hopes of increasing my chances."
He closed the notebook and handed it back to me, saying, "Alright then, let's think of ways together. It would be best if you have completed and relatively excellent works on hand so that we have better conditions when negotiating with others. Additionally, I will also see if there are any familiar businesses around here during this time and contact you later."
"Okay, thank you." I put the notebook into my bag and replied to him.
Zhuo Feng suddenly smiled and said, "Why be so polite? We are friends; helping each other is what we should do. Besides, I really feel that you are different now compared to before."
Mina deliberately shot him a glare and said, "You observe quite carefully."
I was still a bit confused when Zhuo Feng nodded and said, "It's entirely because Anan is your friend. If it were someone else you asked me to look at, I wouldn't even bother."
Mina got even angrier: "What does whether you look or not have to do with me? What do you want from me? If there's nothing else, hurry up and leave; I'm going out to eat with Anan."
Zhuo Feng glanced at his watch and immediately said, "Let's go together; I'm hungry too."
He walked alongside Mina, joking around as they almost forgot about me, exchanging banter back and forth.
I was thinking about the comic issue in my mind and wasn't really paying attention to their conversation.
If Mina's efforts here don't work out, I'll have to find someone else or go talk to those comic companies myself. But as Zhuo Feng mentioned, I must have complete and valuable works; otherwise, I might not even get through the doors of those companies. The things I had posted online earlier seemed impressive at the time, but after seeing others' works online and in bookstores later on, I realized how immature they truly were and that they lacked any real significance.
This kind of thing is only suitable for personal viewing; no one would be willing to pay for it if taken out.
Looking back now, when I was with Xiao Minxing, I really didn’t do anything serious. Even when he asked me to learn Comic, I didn’t put my heart into it; I just treated it as a way to pass the time.
Now that the opportunity is gone, I realize how regrettable it was to waste those moments. However, one can never return to the past. The only thing to do is to start working hard from now on; the time and opportunities that have already slipped away cannot be reclaimed.
“Anan, we’re getting off. What are you thinking about?” Mina had opened the car door at some point and stood outside asking me.
I moved closer to the door, and she helped me a bit, then asked, “You need to go for regular check-ups, right?”
“Yes, the schedule for each check-up is set by Doctor. If there’s nothing special, I just go according to the schedule,” I replied.
Mina nodded but said, “Giving birth is really the most troublesome thing in this world. Women have it the hardest in their lives.”
I smiled at her and said, “You, who don’t even want to get married and are no different from men, why lament so much?”
Her gaze unintentionally glanced at Zhuo Feng not far away as she said, “That’s true; I just feel sorry for you.”
I also smiled and looked over at Zhuo Feng, following her words: “I actually feel more sorry for Zhuo Feng. Tell me, why do you keep him hanging when your heart has softened?”
Mina’s brows furrowed immediately, and she even stopped walking. She whispered to me, “Let’s not talk about this anymore. He knows my thoughts, and I know his. We don’t need to force anything; maybe being lifelong friends like this is best.”
