After the car stopped at Mina's company, he didn't go in but let me off, saying, "You go ahead. Call me when you're done, and I'll take you back."
I refused him, saying, "No need. You go do your thing; I can take a taxi back."
Su Qian glanced at me and didn't say anything more before driving away.
When I met Mina, I realized that what she said about having something to do was completely false; it was just to stop me from going to Su Qian's house. In her words, "No matter what you two do in the future, at least nothing has happened yet. Don't go alone to places you're not familiar with."
I looked at her and asked, "Aren't you being too cautious about him?"
Mina rolled her eyes at me and said, "People like you who are so carefree are rare. Let's not even talk about whether Su Qian will do anything. Before you clear things up with Xiao Zong, have you thought about the impact of your actions on him? And on yourself? Meeting a man privately while pregnant, especially a well-known playboy— even if you don't want to marry again in the future, this bad reputation could affect your child's upbringing. Never underestimate people's gossiping nature; whenever things come to light, you'll become the target."
I was stunned by her words and took a long time to squeeze out a response: "It's not as serious as you say, right?"
Mina rolled her eyes again.
I muttered, "Such things happen all the time in Haicheng; who talks about them every day? Besides, I'm not a famous person. Even if something did happen, people would forget it soon enough."
"Qiu Yuhan, are you really that foolish?" Mina exclaimed in frustration, unable to hold back as she stood up from her large chair. "Even if you're not famous, Xiao Minxing and Su Qian are. Do you really think no one knows that you two are connected? Do you think those media outlets aren't interested in reporting it? If it weren't for Xiao Minxing suppressing it from behind the scenes, this would have been common knowledge long ago."
"Ah?"
"What 'ah'? If you had told me this morning that you were going to meet him, I wouldn't have let you go at all." She was clearly upset with my naivety and continued to grumble after sitting back down.
"No wonder Xiao Zong gets so angry with you; I'm about to spit blood from frustration. Sometimes I don't even know what's going on in your head. Have you heard of avoiding suspicion between men and women? They're all celebrities now; whoever you're associated with could end up hurting only yourself."
I was genuinely frightened by her words. I thought about my walk with Su Qian in the small park earlier that morning; if someone had seen us, what would they have said?
Then I quickly thought about why Su Qian wanted to do this and why he chose such a completely public place to meet. We could have discussed our matters over the phone.
Then I recalled our previous meetings and felt like it wasn't as serious as Mina said. At least I had met him so many times without thinking of avoiding anyone, yet no one outside had mentioned anything until now.
With that thought in mind, I looked up at Mina and asked, "He's not a big star; surely people wouldn't notice every little thing he does. We've met alone many times without any issues."
Mina shook her head helplessly at me, already holding the documents from her desk, but her tone was still sharp: "What happened in the past is the past, and what’s happening now is now. In any case, it's always wise to be cautious."
To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to Mina's words; I even thought she was being overly anxious at times. However, before the afternoon was over, entertainment news on my phone broke a story.
There really was footage of Su Qian and me.
The image was a bit blurry, making it hard to see faces clearly, but since the person in the footage was me and the scene was familiar, I recognized it immediately.
The headline read: "Young Master Su Spotted Strolling with Mysterious Woman in Central Park."
Some people even speculated through the video that I was already pregnant, claiming it was evident from my walking posture and silhouette, suggesting I might be two months along.
I truly wondered if these people had some sort of supernatural insight or if they had known the inside story all along?
Moreover, I felt this news came too suddenly. Why had nothing happened before? Suddenly it was all out in the open like this.
The news didn’t stay online for long; it was taken down about an hour later, but it had already left me feeling anxious.
Mina sat in her Office, looking at me with an inscrutable expression.
I was anxious and troubled, pacing back and forth in front of her before finally asking again: "What exactly is going on? Did Su Qian deliberately set this up?"
Mina shook her head and said, "I don’t know. It could be, or it might not be."
"What’s the difference between that and saying nothing?" I exclaimed as I pressed my hands on her desk.
The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I became. I stood up and said, "I'm going to find him and ask him what's going on. Why is it that I've met him alone before, had meals with him, gone out together without any issues, but now just walking in a park gets caught on camera and posted online? Besides him, I can't think of anyone else."
Mina heard this and seemed even more upset than I was: "What difference does it make if you go find him now? Even if you do find him, isn’t there another way?"
"What way?" I asked in confusion.
Mina remained seated without moving, staring at me for a few seconds before sighing: "The content has already been deleted. Even if it spreads again later, it's not a big deal. You don’t need to rush. I'll have Zhuo Feng ask about it, but I think it's unlikely he’s involved."
"Why?" My mind was filled with questions; my face and body were full of them too. There were so many things I couldn’t figure out on my own and relied on others for answers.
Those who say I have a fake brain are probably referring to someone like me.
Mina had already picked up the phone on the table, but after hearing my question, she put it back down and thought for a moment before saying, "He doesn't need to do that, and I always feel like he treats you differently from others. According to Su Qian's usual behavior, even if he exposes himself, he would still try to protect you."
"Isn't that the same as what the news said? It didn't mention my name at all, just referred to a woman, while his name and background were clearly stated. There are many things I don't know."
The two of them were still arguing about this when Zhuo Feng pushed the door open. He paused when he saw me but quickly replaced his surprise with a smile and said, "Anan is here."
I responded with a "mm," stood up to give him my seat, and walked over to the windowsill.
Mina was not polite with him and got straight to the point: "You should call Su Qian and ask him what’s going on with that news."
Zhuo Feng frowned and asked, "What news?"
Mina didn’t reply to him directly; she simply said, "Just ask him like that. He must know."
Seeing Zhuo Feng's expression, he seemed quite troubled, as if everything revolved around Mina. He took out his phone and hesitated there.
I had no relationship with him and didn't need his help, so since Mina didn't say anything, I decided to speak up.
After listening to my brief words, Zhuo Feng's eyes widened in surprise, and after a long pause, he finally asked, "This matter is suspicious."
