After all, I used to really like him. He was like a dream to me. Although we have broken up, I still hope he can be happy. Perhaps his departure is a good thing for me. At least, I no longer suffer from his indifference towards me.
I arrived at Xu Zimo's office. The door was unlocked. I pushed the door open and walked in. A faint smell of disinfectant filled the room. "Xu Zimo?" I called out. There was no response. It seemed he wasn't there.
I sat down on the sofa, planning to wait for him. At that moment, I noticed a black velvet jewelry box on his desk. Curiously, I walked over and picked up the box. Inside was a necklace with a diamond-encrusted hexagram pendant; it was beautiful. I thought that if I wore it around my neck, it would look stunning.
Just then, the door was pushed open. I was startled and quickly put the necklace back in its place. "Xiao Lin?" Xu Zimo stood at the door, looking at me in surprise. "You... you’re back?" I said nervously as I looked at him.
"Mm." He nodded, a pleased expression on his face. "What brings you here?"
"I..." I was about to explain when suddenly the necklace slipped from my fingertips.
I quickly reached out to catch it. However, the pendant had a letter engraved on the back—C.
My heart sank.
"Xiao Lin!" Xu Zimo rushed over and grabbed my hand.
"Don't touch it!" he shouted.
I was taken aback.
He looked into my eyes, his expression complicated.
My heart twisted painfully.
I withdrew my hand and forced a smile. "Xu Zimo, this necklace is for Chen Yun, right?"
He frowned slightly. "Did you see it?"
"Yes." I nodded. "Chen Yun likes Hexagram; this necklace must be the birthday gift you gave her."
He fell silent for a few seconds before saying, "She's no longer here, so..."
"So we should get a divorce." I interrupted him.
He stared at me in shock. "What did you say?"
"Xu Zimo, let's get a divorce," I said firmly.
He fixed his gaze on me, his eyes sharp. "Is it because of Chen Gang?"
"Chen Gang?" I was taken aback. "What does he have to do with this?"
"Hasn't he come back?"
"You ran into him?"
"He saw me at the hospital," Xu Zimo said flatly.
"So what?" I looked at him. "What does that have to do with our divorce?"
"Aren't you always fond of him?" he sneered, "Now that he's getting married, you finally can't hold back?"
"What nonsense are you talking about!" I glared at him angrily, "He's getting married, but I'm already married! Xiao Lin, I am your wife!"
He stared at me, his gaze deep.
"Xiao Lin, if you're changing your mind because Chen Gang is getting married, then I advise you to think it through," he said solemnly. "Chen Yun and I are in the past; if you're willing, we can continue as a couple."
"No..." I shook my head, "I don't want to go on like this."
"Why?" he frowned.
"I'm tired," I said. "Xu Zimo, I don't want to maintain this hollow marriage anymore."
He was silent for a few seconds before asking, "Are you really not doing this because of Chen Gang?"
"Of course not," I looked at him, "There's no possibility between him and me anymore."
"Then why do you want a divorce?" he questioned coldly. "Do you have no feelings for me at all?"
"I..." I looked at him but didn't know how to respond.
I couldn't bring myself to say the words "none."
Because deep down, I knew I had fallen in love with him.
