Friday.
After finishing up at the studio, I planned to head home.
At that moment, my phone vibrated.
I picked it up and saw a text message.
“Xiao Lin, I want to see you.”
It was Chen Gang.
Looking at this message, a storm of emotions surged within me.
I wanted to find Xu Zimo.
I wanted to tell him that I liked him.
I turned around and headed to the hospital.
In the duty room, I inquired about Xu Zimo's office floor and then walked toward the stairwell.
My heart was racing.
The thought of seeing him soon made me both nervous and excited.
Just then, with a ding, the elevator doors opened.
I stepped inside and pressed the close door button.
Just as the doors were about to close, a large hand reached in.
“Wait a minute.”
A gentle voice rang out.
I looked up and froze.
Xu Zimo.
He was also taken aback.
“Xiao Lin?” he frowned, “What are you doing here?”
“I…”
I looked at him but couldn't find the words.
“What are you here for?” he asked.
“I came to find you.”
“Find me?” He raised an eyebrow, “Is there something you need?”
“I…” I took a deep breath and gathered my courage to speak, “I have something I want to tell you.”
“What is it?”
I lowered my head, hesitated for a few seconds, and mustered the courage to say, “Xu Zimo, I like—”
“Zimo!”
An urgent voice interrupted my words.
I turned to see a female doctor in a white coat waving at a distance.
“Zimo, come here quickly! There's a patient that needs resuscitation!”
Xu Zimo looked at me and said, “I have to go. If you need anything, we can talk later.”
With that, he turned and left.
I watched his retreating figure, feeling a wave of disappointment wash over me.
Could it be that my intuition was wrong?
He doesn’t like me?
…
At eight o'clock in the evening, Xu Zimo returned.
He pushed the door open and walked in.
I caught a whiff of the antiseptic smell on him.
“You're back?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He took off his coat and hung it on the rack, then walked over to the table to pour himself a glass of water.
“Why did you come back so late today?” I inquired.
“There were some issues at the hospital.” He took a sip of water and said, “Dr. Liang mentioned that you called me today?”
“Yeah,” I nodded.
“What was it about?” He looked at me.
I gazed into his deep eyes, feeling flustered inside.
I wanted to tell him that I liked him.
But when the words reached my lips, I couldn’t bring myself to say them.
“It’s nothing,” I shook my head.
“Xiao Lin, we’re married,” he said in a serious tone. “If you’re facing any difficulties, you can tell me.”
“I really am fine.” I forced a smile, “You should go take a shower first; I’ll run some water for you.”
With that, I turned and walked into the bathroom.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I felt an overwhelming sense of frustration.
"Xiao Lin, you are really useless. You don't even have the courage to confess!"
The next day, I returned to the hospital. To my surprise, I encountered a familiar figure in the elevator. It was Chen Gang. He saw me too, and we were both taken aback.
"Xiao Lin, what are you doing here?" he asked, looking at me in surprise.
"I..." I was about to respond when a ringtone interrupted us; it was Chen Gang's phone. He took out his phone and smiled, "It's my fiancée calling."
With that, he answered the call. "Baby, yeah, I'm at the hospital... I'll be back this afternoon, okay, I got it..."
His expression was gentle, like a happy groom. I knew that he and his fiancée must be getting married because she was pregnant. I felt happy for him.
After hanging up the phone, Chen Gang asked me, "Xiao Lin, are you here to see Zimo?"
"I..." I pressed my lips together, "I'm waiting for him in his office."
"Alright, then I'll take my leave," Chen Gang waved at me. "See you next time."
"Mm."
I watched his departing figure, feeling a ripple in my heart.
