After a satisfying meal, I followed Pei Chenyi and couldn't help but ask, "Why don't you take a taxi?"
Pei Chenyi blinked: "I want to take the subway."
I was speechless: "It's the weekend today; there definitely won't be any seats on the subway, and it's going to be crowded."
Pei Chenyi smiled: "Didn't you say you wanted to thank me? Then come with me on the subway."
I was slightly taken aback; he seemed to have a point.
"Alright then, I'll accompany you on the subway."
Pei Chenyi smiled in satisfaction: "That's more like it."
I cleared my throat and quickened my pace.
Pei Chenyi hurried to catch up with me as we both headed toward the bustling subway station.
As soon as we got on the subway, the crowd separated us.
I was pushed into a corner, watching Pei Chenyi from a distance, unable to suppress a bitter smile.
If I had known, I might as well have taken a taxi; it would have saved me this trouble.
Pei Chenyi seemed to notice my gaze and smiled as he squeezed his way over to me.
I couldn't help but take a step back, but there was nowhere else to retreat.
Pei Chenyi continued to approach until he stopped just a fist's distance away from me.
"What are you doing?"
I looked at him warily.
Pei Chenyi blinked: "Nothing, just wanted to say hello."
I was speechless: "You don't need to get this close for that, do you?"
Pei Chenyi chuckled: "Don't you think this is interesting?"
I frowned: "Where's the interesting part?"
Pei Chenyi lightly coughed and said, "It's just... you see, we're so close right now, yet no one dares to speak, fearing that others might overhear. It's a strange feeling."
I rolled my eyes and replied, "Is it? I find it quite awkward."
Pei Chenyi thought for a moment and suggested, "How about this? Let's keep each other's secrets. I won't tell anyone about your crush on Qin Jin, and you won't tell anyone about my admiration for Li Wen."
I couldn't help but scoff, "Your admiration for Li Wen? Aren't you thinking too much?"
Pei Chenyi chuckled, "I'm just being cautious."
I sighed in resignation, "Fine, I agree."
Pei Chenyi smiled in satisfaction, "That's more like it."
I lightly coughed again and turned my gaze away from him.
Fortunately, the next stop arrived, and I quickly got off the bus, escaping as if I were fleeing.
Pei Chenyi watched my hurried retreat and couldn't help but laugh.
I turned back and shot him a glare; this guy was getting more outrageous by the day.
The following days went by as usual.
Pei Chenyi would occasionally give me meaningful looks that made me feel uncomfortable all over.
Finally, I couldn't hold back and sent him a message on WeChat.
"Pei Chenyi, what do you mean by that?"
Pei Chenyi replied, "What do you mean?"
"Are you playing dumb? What does it mean when you look at me like that every day?"
"I just find it interesting."
"Interesting? I think you're just incredibly bored."
Pei Chenyi laughed, "Are you angry?"
"Of course I'm angry! What if someone sees us and misunderstands our relationship?"
"But didn't you say there's nothing between us?"
"But..."
"Don't worry, I won't ruin your good thing."
"What do you mean by that?"
Pei Chenyi did not reply.
I sighed helplessly, hoping he would keep his word.
After sending off a guest, I couldn't help but glance at Pei Chenyi again.
He winked at me with a mischievous look on his face.
I rolled my eyes and turned away, no longer looking at him.
Just then, Manager Qin suddenly approached.
"Yao Yao, come to my office for a moment."
I was taken aback; what could Manager Qin want with me?
Did he find out I was slacking off and was going to punish me?
Or did Pei Chenyi spill my gossip to him?
With a head full of questions, I followed Manager Qin into the office.
As soon as I entered, I saw that Pei Chenyi was already sitting on the sofa.
I couldn't help but glare at him; this guy actually came to complain.
But Pei Chenyi just smiled at me, looking quite pleased with himself.
Manager Qin gestured for me to sit down and then handed me a document.
"Yao Yao, for next month's beauty festival, our company is going to shoot a promotional video. After thinking it over, I've decided to have you collaborate with Yi."
I was stunned; he wanted me to work with Pei Chenyi?
How could that be possible?
I had never imagined that I would actually be working with Pei Chenyi.
