Chapter 167: Yin-Yang Master
After Captain Wang left, it was just me and the female officer in the detention room. She handed me her notes and said, "Please sign here."
I nodded and scribbled my name like a ghostly scrawl. After taking back the notebook, she suddenly turned around before leaving the detention room and asked, "Uncle, do all men have a tendency to peep? Also, I've noticed that you remember many details quite clearly. Isn't it said that men are simple-minded and physically strong?"
This female officer was only about twenty-six or twenty-seven years old. I took a tolerant attitude towards her question and explained, "At the beginning of humanity, people are inherently good. It's natural for men to be attracted to women. When you've gone thirty-two years without any contact with a woman, I believe you might resort to some despicable behavior to compensate for the emptiness inside and out. As for the details!"
I smiled slightly. Some seemingly insignificant details could potentially lead to major consequences. Some unreasonable aspects actually have reasonable explanations, and some events haven't occurred yet simply because the timing isn't right! It's like a person; perhaps many people like him, but there are also those who don't find him appealing—it's hard to please everyone.
"When you have enough experience one day, you'll realize that some details you overlook could be fatal," I concluded with a smile.
After the female officer left, the detention room felt very empty. My limbs were shackled to the chair as I stared at the ceiling, mentally sorting through everything that had happened.
It all started when I encountered Liu Yiyi, then she escaped, and I chased her to the cemetery. After seeing Pan Shenbao's grave marker, I recalled the jade pendant he gave me and was stunned to realize that in these days of preparing paper houses for work and feeding chickens, I hadn't carried the pendant with me; when I rushed back, I found it missing.
Wait!
I furrowed my brows. Outside the cemetery on the road, there was a man in a suit squatting by a car waiting. Ghosts can't possibly have sedans; otherwise, paper coffins would have been eliminated long ago. Besides that, there was also the little girl selling red clothes. And why did Guo Yang appear at the paper shop? Was it really just to chase Liu Yiyi?
In my daze, I felt that all these events were somewhat connected, but what was the crux of it all?
The Seven Gates Ghost Sealing Formation can only be set up by a Yin-Yang Master. The only person I could think of who could set up such formations was Liu Er!
I have a bold idea, but there are many things I can't figure out.
After shaking my head, I took a deep breath. The scene of Liu Yiyi lying naked in a pool of blood flashed in my mind. There must have been something or someone in front of her! I need to go to the scene and take a look; she trusted me so much, yet I let down the beautiful woman’s expectations. Not only did I fail to be her hero, but I also witnessed her tragic death.
I don't know how long I had been locked in the detention room when finally the door was opened. Captain Wang walked in with a takeout box, and behind him was the woman I encountered in the cemetery.
“Captain Wang, you finally came,” I said hurriedly. “Can you take me to Liu Yiyi’s death scene? Give me a chance to clear my name!”
Captain Wang smiled and said, “Don’t rush; eat first.”
After placing the takeout box on the table, he unlocked my handcuffs. I had no appetite for food; just as I was about to get up, Captain Wang said, “You two can chat slowly; I’ll leave first.”
Hey, wait! I wanted to call out to Captain Wang, but seeing the beauty sitting across from me made me abandon that thought.
She looked just like this morning, still wearing a white shirt and jeans, with a white silk scarf tied into a bow that held back her long hair. She sat gracefully across from me, looking calm and composed, which annoyed me greatly.
I don’t know why; although I desperately wanted to find a girlfriend, I just didn’t feel any attraction towards her!
“Yin Yang family Shaosi Ming Murong Duoduo!” She slightly raised her head and extended her right hand towards me. “What about you, loser?”
The Yin Yang family is a prominent clan, much like the Ma family's sorcery or Liu family's paper offerings. After the Four Cleansings, many prominent families fell into decline; however, the Yin Yang family was the only one that remained unaffected by the 'cleansing of all evil spirits.'
While they also dealt with supernatural matters, the Yin Yang family does not draw talismans, perform deity rituals, or make paper offerings. They only use their unique methods to subdue ghosts.
“Aren’t you from the Yin Yang family primarily responsible for communication between spirits and the living?” I wiped my right hand on my clothes several times before shaking hers and smiled as I said, “What interests you about the Seven Gates Ghost Sealing Formation?”
The first time I held a girl's hand, I felt an indescribable excitement inside. Her hand was really soft!
“Pan Shenbao, the new Ferry Operator of the River of Forgetfulness, is respectfully referred to as Pan the Ferryman by the people of the underworld. He has become another ferryman after Ferry Master Qu, who has been ferrying souls for a millennium,” Murong Duoduo said as she forcefully pulled her little hand away and continued, “Although he just took office not long ago, he has to ferry thousands of people ashore almost every yin hour. Many wandering spirits who have passed on have mentioned his name, so it’s hard not to remember him.”
I nodded, feeling a bit awkward as I retracted my right hand, which felt very warm, as if it still retained her lingering warmth. However, speaking of my junior brother Shenbao, he benefited many while alive and brought hope to those souls in the River of Forgetfulness after his death.
“Not long ago, Pan the Ferryman was suddenly taken away by an old man riding a white horse. At that time, the old man even dealt with quite a few yin messengers; some yin messengers and wandering spirits who had received Pan the Ferryman's kindness specifically came to my shop to seek help. As a member of the Yin-Yang family, Shaosi Ming, I naturally wouldn’t stand by and do nothing,” Murong Duoduo said as she took out a small box from her pocket.
The box was about the same size as a ring box, but when she opened it, I saw that it was filled with mist. The mist was gray and filled the entire box, yet even when opened, it did not disperse.
The Yin-Yang family has certain levels of classification for their successors. They help wandering spirits with tasks, such as delivering messages to living people or helping them get rid of troublesome evil spirits. After completing these tasks, they collect a certain amount of yin energy from the spirits.
Shaosi Ming refers to those who collect less than a thousand strands of yin energy, so it remains in mist form. Once that mist becomes dense enough, it will gather into droplets and can then become a Great Deity of Life, officially serving in both realms of Yin and Yang, also known as a yang messenger.
I looked at the density of the mist in the box and said, “Are they asking you to save my junior brother?”
Murong Duoduo nodded.
This is what is called good deeds bringing good results! It seems that Heavenly Father is still fair; at least my junior brother Pan Shenbao has done so many good deeds that those who benefited from him have not forgotten him.
“Since you are Pan the Ferryman's junior brother, you should also know how to draw talismans, set up formations, and control paper techniques. You should know that while our Yin-Yang family has a set method for dealing with ghosts, we are relatively weak in terms of formations. So I hope this time you can help me,” Murong Duoduo said earnestly while looking at me.
Save Pan Shenbao? What a joke! Did she really need to ask me for this? Even if I were the only person left in the world who remembered the name ‘Pan Shenbao’, I would still go to any lengths to save him.
But right now, she needed something from me; in other words, I had the upper hand in this situation. So I pretended to be indifferent, picked up a pair of disposable chopsticks, broke them apart, and while eating, casually said, “I can help you, but what’s in it for me?”
"What do you want?" Murong Duoduo asked.
While eating, I replied, "You know, I'm just a poor loser. I've lived a long life without money to marry a wife, and there's no wife to marry. Every time the night is quiet, I often think how nice it would be to have someone to talk to! She would gently take care of me, and I would take her shopping, build a happy family for her, and then grow old together, never leaving each other..."
"Enough!" Murong Duoduo said irritably. "Don't get carried away. Don't forget, Pan Shenbao is also your junior brother."
"Yes! He is my junior brother, but you are from the Yin-Yang family. With so many ghosts relying on you to save him, I can rest assured," I said somewhat carelessly.
Murong Duoduo was so angry that her chest rose and fell dramatically, which was quite a sight. There's no helping it; she always calls me a loser, so I had to show her what being a loser looks like.
Who would have thought that after being angry for a while, she suddenly spoke to the door of the detention room, "Captain Wang, you can come in now. I don't know this person at all; I've never seen him before."
Clatter!
My chopsticks fell onto the table. "As Pan Shenbao's senior brother, he is in trouble now. It is my duty to rescue him from danger!"
The door of the detention room opened, and Captain Wang walked in with a puzzled expression.
Murong Duoduo flashed a brilliant smile. "Isn't this Cao Qilong? I saw you burning paper at the cemetery around six in the morning. How long has it been since you came to the police station for tea?"
This woman! She changes her attitude faster than flipping a book. I was speechless and could only say to Captain Wang, "Captain Wang, Liu Yiyi's death is suspicious. Whether you believe me or not, I hope you can take me to the scene of the death. At that time, I will definitely provide you with some valuable information."
"Huh? This..." Captain Wang looked at me and seemed hesitant. "I can't make that decision! Besides, you're still a suspect."
"Don't worry about those details." I waved my hand and walked over to Captain Wang, putting my arm around his shoulder as I said, "You don't believe me; do you not trust my junior brother Pan Shenbao? Rest assured, although I'm not as smart as my junior brother, I will definitely help you. Once this is done, I hope you can help me find out about a few people."
Captain Wang hesitated for a moment but then nodded.
I originally planned to handle the matter of relocating the grave myself, but it seems relying on Captain Wang would be more convenient. Moreover, I feel that Liu Yiyi's death is too strange; it definitely isn't that simple.
In the afternoon, Captain Wang took me and Murong Duoduo to the scene of Liu Yiyi's death.
Liu Yiyi lived in a remote area, in a two-story small house surrounded by a Lychee Grove. The house was connected to the road by its Main Entrance, and an Old Woman ran a small shop in the lobby of the house.
Such independent small houses are quite rare in today's rising housing market; they can only be found in this suburban area. However, I was puzzled as to why Liu Yiyi, who didn't seem to be poor, would rent a place like this.
After talking with Aunt for a while, Captain Wang led me and Murong Duoduo to the Second Floor. There were three Main Entrances on the Second Floor, and Liu Yiyi lived in the room near the stairs. The entrance was cordoned off with police tape, and two officers were guarding the door.
When the police opened the door, the air that wafted out made me instinctively cover my nose and say, "The smell of decay! Captain Wang, haven't you moved Liu Yiyi's Corpse out of the room yet?"
"It's already been moved!" Captain Wang also covered his nose as he replied.
It was unbearable! The stench was like that of a rat that had died in a rice jar and fermented for ten days or half a month; it could only be described as overwhelming.
"Wait!" I said while covering my nose as I stepped inside. "There must still be a Corpse in here!"
