Chapter 162: Ghost Master
I am Cao Qilong. Since I returned from the Underworld, I went back to my paper-making shop. After witnessing the passionate love between Pan Shenbao and Lin Xiaoqi, I felt as if I had lived in a different world. I realized that my thirty-two years had been in vain; I had never even experienced a romance. After all, I am just a person, a normal man.
In the paper shop, people often came to me for help with some strange matters, but I always refused. It wasn't that I lacked compassion; rather, I needed to finish making the ghost houses that I owed to the King of Hell.
I also longed for a passionate love affair, to find a beautiful wife, and then keep her in a golden house, cherishing her for a lifetime. So, I visited a Marriage Agency. When the matchmaker asked for my name, occupation, and monthly income, I replied, "Cao Qilong; Yin-Yang Master; are you asking about money for the living or for the dead?"
She looked at me with a very complicated expression and asked me to pay. I handed her two hundred yuan and two hundred ghost bills, hoping she could arrange a match for me.
However, after finishing the ghost houses owed to the King of Hell, the Marriage Agency did not give me any news. Out of desperation, I had no choice but to post a recruitment notice at the entrance of my paper shop: "Due to business needs, hiring one female shop assistant aged twenty-eight to thirty-two years old, with delicate features, bra size 34B to 38D, capable of laundry and cooking, brave enough to have children; ghost exorcists preferred."
Unfortunately, up until now, I had not recruited a single assistant.
Since returning from the Underworld, Burning Soul would call out coldly every night, so I had to buy two chickens daily to feed her. For this reason, I named her "Chicken Lady."
Bianhan was much quieter, staying inside the jade pendant with little reaction. Still, I named it "Chicken Man," as it was my biggest trump card.
Today, as usual, I opened the shop and waited all day without any customers until in the evening when a woman walked into my paper shop.
From the moment I saw her, I decided to help her at all costs. She wore black silk high heels and a sky-blue short skirt paired with a matching women's suit and a lace checkered scarf. It was clear she was a flight attendant and someone who needed my help—a worthy person to assist.
After she entered, I sat quietly at my desk observing her. She looked around at the paper bridges, paper sedan chairs, Paper Figurines, and paper houses before cautiously asking inside, "Is anyone here?"
I cleared my throat twice and calmly said, "Isn't it a joy to have friends come from afar?"
"Ah!" She was startled. I said to her, "Come over and sit!"
She finally saw me, then gracefully moved her steps and slowly walked to the table to sit down, constantly tugging at the hem of her clothes with both hands.
"May I ask for your name, miss?" I took the initiative to ask.
She slightly lowered her head, her long hair swirling above her head looked very beautiful, and she said nervously, "Liu Yiyi."
"Oh?" My eyes lit up, and I hurriedly asked, "Do you have a boyfriend, fiancé, or husband?"
Liu Yiyi shook her head, and I immediately felt overjoyed, quickly saying, "Then can you have children?"
"Ah?" Liu Yiyi looked up in surprise, staring at me with a puzzled expression and asked, "Master, is that very important?"
I really wanted to tell her it was extremely important! But the words were on the tip of my tongue; I changed my mind and said, "Are you in trouble? Do you need help?"
Liu Yiyi did not answer me immediately but nervously glanced around before looking at me with a panicked expression and said, "Master, you must save me!"
"Of course!" How could I not help? As a Paper Effigy Maker, it is my duty to help others by exorcising spirits and capturing monsters. Besides, after returning to the Paper Shop, business has been terrible; there are usually no two people to talk to. I have been lonely and single for thirty-two years!
Liu Yiyi looked around again before gazing at me with a pleading expression and said, "Master, there are ghosts in my house! You must help me!"
"Don't worry; tell me carefully what happened!" I hesitated for a moment and then added, "Start from when you first noticed it."
She paused for a moment but then began to recount the story as I instructed.
Liu Yiyi was born into a poor family and did not perform well in school from a young age. After graduating from middle school, she worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant. Later, she happened to be seen by a female classmate from her village, who invited her to join an art troupe to learn dancing.
During a performance, she met a boy named Guo Yang. Guo Yang was the quintessential rich second generation, coming from a wealthy and influential family. He pursued Liu Yiyi passionately, and unable to resist his persistent advances, she agreed to be with him.
With Guo Yang's help, Liu Yiyi obtained a fake diploma and, leveraging both Guo Yang's connections and her own beauty, successfully became a flight attendant.
Initially, they seemed destined for happiness. However, as Liu Yiyi spent more time with Guo Yang, she discovered that he had severe trust issues that bordered on irrationality.
At first, Liu Yiyi did not pay much attention to it; after all, if they were apart for more than two hours, Guo Yang would incessantly call and text her. She thought this was a sign of love and brushed it off.
However, after they moved in together, Guo Yang's jealousy became increasingly outrageous. He forbade Liu Yiyi from speaking to any man, even getting into heated arguments if she exchanged a few words with the captain.
As their arguments escalated in frequency, they turned into physical fights. Liu Yiyi could never match Guo Yang's strength; every time she returned home after flying out of town, she would be subjected to intense questioning. If there was anything amiss—like dining at a restaurant instead of eating alone in her hotel room—Guo Yang would physically assault her.
During that time, Liu Yiyi cried daily but felt that since she had given herself to Guo Yang, she belonged to him. She believed that as long as she followed his way of thinking moving forward, everything would be fine.
Unfortunately, Guo Yang's jealousy was far more complicated than Liu Yiyi had imagined. He would stalk her and scrutinize all her communications. He even woke her up at night with bizarre questions.
Over time, Liu Yiyi felt utterly exhausted by her life. Unfortunately, she had no friends nearby and only tears when thinking of Guo Yang.
Liu Yiyi decided to break up with him.
One night in their small apartment, they got into another fierce fight. This time it escalated violently, and Liu Yiyi ultimately fled their shared home and never returned.
Initially, Liu Yiyi thought that was the end of it. However, one night while taking a shower, she suddenly noticed a shadow in the bathroom. Terrified, she quickly dried herself off and grabbed a broom to check outside but found no one there.
Thinking it was just her imagination, she went to bed but soon realized she couldn't sleep at all. It felt unusually cold around her. When she turned over and opened her eyes unexpectedly, she discovered that there was a man lying in her bed who had been staring at her wide-eyed without blinking.
This man is none other than Guo Yang!
Liu Yiyi was immediately terrified and hurriedly threw off the blanket to escape. No matter where she ran, she could always feel Guo Yang closely following her.
She ran desperately, and finally reached the police station. When she found the police and they told her that there was no one behind her, she turned around and realized that indeed, there was no one behind her.
Later, after calming down at the police station, Liu Yiyi wondered how Guo Yang could know where she was since she had just rented that apartment recently and hadn’t told anyone.
Could it be that she was hallucinating again?
No! It couldn’t be! Because it felt so real; it was definitely not a hallucination.
The next morning, she called Guo Yang's parents, asking them to take care of their son and not to bother her anymore. However, Guo Yang's parents told her that Guo Yang had died seven days ago.
And seven days ago was exactly the day she had argued with Guo Yang.
"Master, you have to save me! He just won't let me go. Even though he's dead, he still won't leave me alone," Liu Yiyi cried to me.
I frowned slightly; there was a crucial question in Liu Yiyi's story that she hadn't mentioned! Thinking of this, I hurriedly asked, "How did Guo Yang die?"
"How did he die? How did he die?" Liu Yiyi murmured several times, then trembled all over. "Ah!"
The sudden scream startled me! What shocked me even more was that Liu Yiyi actually jumped up from the chair and then ran out wildly.
