Chapter 108: Evil Spirit
Brother Wang couldn't explain it clearly at the moment; he just told us that villagers who had such dreams for a long time would mysteriously die that very night, and most of the villagers would have these strange dreams before dying. The elders said that it was the deceased relatives or Ghost Messengers coming to take their souls to the Underworld, so no one found it strange.
However, he told us that since we had this dream last night and were fine, he admired us even more, believing that we were capable individuals, even the Ghost Messengers of the Underworld couldn't do anything to us.
I smiled lightly, naturally not believing his claims. I knew that Ghost Messengers didn't carry souls in coffins; they wouldn't want to be your laborers.
Although Brother Wang's statements about relatives coming to find you or Ghost Messengers collecting souls seemed unlikely, one thing was certain: anyone who had such a dream would not survive; they would die.
From this point alone, I could guess that this was not a dream at all but rather that someone's soul was taken away. The reason I was still alive today was that Cao Qilong saved me by waking me up before my soul was taken away, allowing my soul to return.
At this moment, someone might ask me what would have happened if I hadn't been awakened by Cao Qilong. I would tell you that perhaps my soul would have been taken to the Underworld or along the Yellow Springs Road because once you pass through the Ghost Gate, it becomes difficult to return. This is not like an ordinary loss of soul; even if a shaman from the Yin Realm is called to retrieve your soul, once it reaches the road of the underworld, no matter how much you call from the World of the Living, you cannot bring your soul back.
Putting aside the matter of being taken away at midnight for now, after breakfast, we asked Brother Wang to take us around the village to check its Feng Shui. We believed that since strange things kept happening in this village, it must not be due to an Evil Spirit from a particular Hut Family but rather some unfavorable aspect of the village itself.
Brother Wang changed his clothes and led us out of the house towards the outskirts of the village. However, just as we reached the center of the village and had not yet exited, we encountered something unexpected. In front of us was a Substation with a Mound beside it, surrounded by many villagers.
Seeing this situation, I curiously asked Brother Wang what had happened over there.
Upon seeing so many people gathered ahead, Brother Wang's expression changed. He said, "Oh no, something has happened again!"
At that moment, Cao Qilong and I were puzzled and asked, "What’s going on? Does something happen there often?"
Brother Wang replied, "Yes, for some reason that place is cursed; anyone who disturbs the soil there is sure to encounter misfortune and die. I wonder which stubborn young person has gotten into trouble this time!"
Hearing this, both Cao Qilong and I understood that there was an issue with the Mound beneath the Substation. We quickly urged Brother Wang to take us over to see what was happening.
Soon, we arrived at the bottom of the Substation, where the Villagers gathered around the Mound, looking anxious and discussing among themselves. Some were saying how could Dog Egg be so clueless, insisting not to come to this place, and now look what happened!
At that moment, an elderly man spoke up, saying, "Enough with the blame; what's done is done. We need to think of a way to save Dog Egg!"
Once the elder spoke, the other Women fell silent, though someone helplessly remarked, "Liu Banjian from Neighboring Village passed away last year. Where can we find someone knowledgeable in treating evil ailments right now?"
The elder looked equally helpless and anxious. Just then, from within the crowd came a sorrowful cry, pleading, "Please help us! Save my Dog Egg! He’s still so young; how can we just watch him go like this?"
The sound of crying was heart-wrenching, evoking tears. Who could bear the pain of losing a child?
At that moment, Brother Wang rushed into the crowd shouting, "Everyone don’t worry! The doctor... the doctor has arrived! I brought him!"
This announcement was like a thunderclap, drawing everyone's attention. The elder quickly grabbed Brother Wang and asked, "Xiao Wang, where is the doctor? Hurry and take us to him."
An Old Woman who had been crying in the crowd also rushed forward to ask Brother Wang where the doctor was.
Before Brother Wang could respond, I addressed everyone: "We are the doctors from the Yin Yang profession. Please make way so we can see the afflicted person."
Upon hearing this, everyone quickly parted to create a path. We then saw a Young Man lying in front of the Mound under the Substation.
Cao Qilong and I hurried over and found that this young man’s face was pale and devoid of color; cold sweat was beading on his forehead. Although he hadn’t passed away yet, his Yang Qi was extremely weak and he was surrounded by Yin Qi. It was clear that he had encountered something malevolent.
At this moment, Cao Qilong said, "This person’s soul has been taken by a Dirty Thing. If we don’t call his soul back quickly, he might not be saved."
Hearing our words made everyone’s faces turn pale with fear. At that moment, Dog Egg's Mother knelt before us, sobbing uncontrollably as she pleaded for us to save her Son.
We quickly helped the Old Woman up and asked her, "What happened to your Son? Why did he faint here?"
The Old Woman was too distraught to articulate clearly, but the elderly man explained for her: "Gentlemen, here’s what happened: Dog Egg's family planned to renovate their house today and came here early in the morning to dig. But when breakfast was ready and he still hadn’t returned, his Mother came looking for him and found Dog Egg lying here unconscious."
Upon hearing this, the old man couldn't help but sigh and said, "The young people nowadays just don't believe in superstitions. The elders in the village have warned them time and again not to disturb this Mound, but they just wouldn't listen, and now something serious has happened. They really don't heed the words of the elders, and now they're facing the consequences!"
Hearing this, I became curious and asked the old man, "Has there been a lot of strange occurrences here?"
The old man nodded and said, "Who says otherwise? There have always been those who refuse to listen to advice. They insist on coming here to take soil, but it always ends badly. Some become insane, while others die right on the spot. Since I was a child, I've heard elders say that there are spirits here that shouldn't be disturbed; if you disturb the ground where these spirits reside, you won't die but will at least suffer some misfortune."
After hearing what the old man said, I began to carefully examine the Mound in front of me. This Mound wasn't large, about the size of a room, and it had a high platform made of large blue stones on top of which sat a transformer.
At first glance, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it, so I activated my Heavenly Eye to take a look. To my shock, I found that the Yin energy from this Mound was extremely heavy, and there was also a strong presence of Sha energy.
Yin energy is present wherever there are ghosts, but Sha energy is different; it only exists in places filled with resentment. When both Yin and Sha energies appear simultaneously, it indicates that this place is extremely ominous and likely harbors Evil Spirits or Vengeful Spirits.
At that moment, Cao Qilong suddenly pointed at the weeds on the Mound and said to me, "Shenbao, look at those grasses; they still have dew on them."
"Dew?" I was puzzled. However, I knew he couldn't just be pointing out the dew for no reason. So I looked at the dew on the weeds and then glanced at the sun hanging high in the sky along with other dry weeds in different areas. Suddenly shocked, I realized what he meant; this was not dew at all but rather water droplets formed from condensed Yin energy.
Such things are rarely seen elsewhere; they only appear in places with heavy Yin energy like gathering pools or mass burial pits. This phenomenon occurs not because of moisture but due to excessive Yin energy forming mist that condenses into water droplets. Thinking about this made me tremble; how heavy must the Yin energy be in this place!
Now that Dog Egg had an incident here, it was no surprise at all. In such a place, let alone disturbing the ground; even someone with bad luck passing by could easily attract Yin entities.
I then asked the old man, "Old man, what was this place used for before?"
