Chapter 54: The Ghostly Cry 0

Mr. Zhu and I looked at each other, breaking out in a cold sweat. Yes, we both acknowledged this answer: the Elevator had come from the Fourteenth Floor to the Fourteen Floors, and the Elevator doors opened wide, clearly inviting us to enter. 0

Thinking back to the two people who had previously taken this strange Elevator and met their demise, both Mr. Zhu and I shuddered involuntarily. 0

As we stood there in a daze, the doors closed again, but then opened once more, evidently waiting for us to step into the Elevator. 0

Gazing at this eerie Elevator, I could almost feel something beckoning us, as if it were calling out to us: Come on, hurry up, come inside... 0

To be honest, I really wanted to step into the Elevator and see where it intended to take me or what it wanted me to witness. However, I was also acutely aware that if I did enter the Elevator, it might very well send me straight to the Negative First Floor. Perhaps the next day, news would spread that another Elevator accident had occurred in a certain building, with blood splattered inside... 0

At that moment, Mr. Zhu asked me what we should do. This Elevator was too strange. 0

I suggested that I take the Elevator to the Fourteenth Floor while he took the stairs. 0

Mr. Zhu turned pale with fear and quickly said no; the Elevator was too dangerous. It was clear that it wanted us to ride it, and if I went in, I would truly fall into their trap. 0

I understood this reasoning as well, but looking at the Elevator opening and closing repeatedly made me unable to resist wanting to step inside and discover what tricks they were playing. 0

Mr. Zhu insisted we should both take the stairs for safety. 0

After thinking it over, I realized that was indeed our only option. However, instead of leaving immediately, I stepped into the Elevator and pressed the button for the Fourteenth Floor before finally exiting and running up the stairs with Mr. Zhu toward the Fourteenth Floor... 0

I ran quickly because I wanted to catch up with the speed of the Elevator; of course, I couldn't match its ascent speed. By the time we were both out of breath and exhausted, we finally reached the Fourteenth Floor! 0

Looking at the stairway entrance with those bright red letters spelling "Fourteenth Floor," for some reason, I felt a chill run down my spine. 0

Although my heart raced with fear, my body didn’t hesitate for a moment. As soon as we reached the Fourteenth Floor, I dashed out of the stairway entrance and into the dark corridor of the Fourteenth Floor. 0

At the end of the corridor on the right was the Elevator door. I looked toward it and saw that above the door, on the display screen indicating floor numbers, it showed “-1”! 0

Instantly, my hair stood on end; my whole body trembled as if I had fallen into an ice pit. In that moment, I felt shock, fear, and lingering dread... 0

I pressed the button for the fourteenth floor when I ran to the elevator, which means the elevator should eventually stop at the fourteenth floor. But... why is the display showing negative one? 0

Could it be that the elevator fell again? 0

Not only I, but when Mr. Zhu saw the number displayed on the elevator, he shivered violently. He couldn't even say a complete sentence, pointing towards the end of the corridor and mumbling, "Negative one, negative... negative one, how could we be on negative one?" 0

No one answered him because I couldn't figure it out either. Besides feeling strange, all that was left was fear. What would have happened if I hadn't listened to Mr. Zhu's advice and had confidently stepped into the elevator? He would have taken the stairs to the fourteenth floor while I would have ended up on negative one... 0

At this moment, Mr. Zhu tried to reason with himself, saying maybe someone got on the elevator after it reached the fourteenth floor and then went down to negative one. 0

I shook my head directly and said that although we weren't as fast as the elevator, we had run up here. The elevator would have had to go from the fourth floor to the fourteenth floor and then drop down to negative one—could it really be that quick? 0

Mr. Zhu didn't say anything more. Indeed, even he didn't believe that an elevator could move that fast unless it fell straight down. But there was another question: if the elevator had fallen straight down, why didn't we hear any sound? 0

Looking at the elevator at the end of the corridor that was on negative one, we both felt an overwhelming sense of eeriness and dread, chills running from our heads to our feet. Just then, a woman's crying voice suddenly echoed from behind us at the end of the corridor! 0

The crying sounded very eerie and mournful in this dark and empty hallway; it was pitiful, sorrowful, and desolate... 0

I was sure there was a woman crouching at the other end of this corridor, crying in anguish! 0

I immediately turned my attention from the elevator to where the woman's crying was coming from. I shone my flashlight towards the end but saw nothing; however, that "Yiyi Yaya" crying did not stop! 0

Finally, a ghost appeared! Thinking this, I mustered my courage and slowly walked toward the front of the corridor. But after just a few steps, I noticed that Mr. Zhu, who had been closely following me, was standing still. So I signaled for him to catch up, but he had a strange expression on his face as he pointed toward the other end of the corridor and whispered, "The other side of the corridor is a storage room; that's where The Woman Who Hanged Herself died." 0

Upon hearing this, I became even more convinced that the crying woman must be that ghost who hanged herself. I called for Mr. Zhu to follow me; honestly, I was worried about leaving him alone here since there were more than just one Wandering Soul in this building. 0

Mr. Zhu was clearly terrified and shook his head vigorously while urging me to reconsider and come back tomorrow. 0

I said if he didn't go with me, I would leave him here alone. 0

Mr. Zhu jumped in fright and had no choice but to obediently follow behind me, clutching my shirt tightly. 0

Following the sound of crying as we moved forward, we dared not make a sound for fear of startling the woman who was crying. Soon after, I discovered there really was a room at the end of the corridor, so I hurried over. 0

Standing outside the door of the room, I listened carefully; indeed, that "Yiyi Yaya" crying was coming from inside. So I pushed on the door but found it locked. At that moment, Mr. Zhu quietly spoke up, "Sir, this room is a storage room where that woman who hanged herself and that ghost-catching master died. Because two lives were lost in this storage room, it was later locked up; the key is with security." 0

As soon as I heard this, I signaled for him to call security to bring the keys up. 0

Mr. Zhu nodded, took out his phone, and called the security on the first floor. After the call connected, the other party answered, but Mr. Zhu didn’t say anything and hung up directly. He then sent a message asking them to bring the keys. 0

The sound of crying was still present. To be honest, listening to that cry sent chills down my spine and made my scalp tingle. That kind of cry could penetrate your ears and enter your heart, making you feel very uncomfortable. 0

I pushed the door again with all my strength, trying to open it, but the door was locked tightly and wouldn’t budge at all. Mr. Zhu said, “I... I think we should go back; I’m so... so scared!” 0

I ignored him because I noticed that the lock on this door was old-fashioned, with a keyhole about the size of a small fingernail. So I put my eye against the keyhole and looked inside, only seeing a blood-red scene; nothing else was visible. 0

I found it strange and rubbed my eyes before looking again through the hole, but it was still a blood-like red color. I couldn’t help but murmur in confusion, “Why is it all just red?” 0

Upon hearing this, Mr. Zhu collapsed onto the ground, his pale lips trembling as he said, “I heard that when that woman hanged herself... her eyes were stained red with blood; her eyeballs were red!” 0

At that moment, I felt my scalp explode with fear; my hair stood on end. It was truly the first time I felt like my three souls and seven spirits were about to scatter! 0

After hearing Mr. Zhu’s words, I understood immediately. The red I saw was the ghost woman's eyeballs; while I was looking through the keyhole, she was also looking back at me through it! 0

Once I realized this, I jumped back several steps in shock. The feeling of eye-to-eye contact is something no one can truly understand in terms of fear. 0

I pulled the terrified Mr. Zhu close to me and then cautiously watched the door in front of us because I knew that someone was watching us… 0
