Xu Jing walked over and placed her hand on Zhou Qi's shoulder. Zhou Qi glanced up at her, then lowered his head again, silently holding the urn. Xu Jing stayed with him in silence.
After an unknown amount of time, Zhou Qi's hoarse voice broke the quiet: "It's snowing." Xu Jing was momentarily taken aback, then realized he was referring to Li Xue. She gently patted his shoulder and whispered, "Let's go outside; don't keep her waiting too long."
Zhou Qi remained still. Xu Jing sighed, grasped his arm, pulled him up from the sofa, then took the urn from his hands and turned to walk outside. Zhou Qi silently followed her.
The two arrived at the Cemetery, where Xu Jing handed the urn to a staff member, who took it to complete the burial procedures. Xu Jing and Zhou Qi stood at the entrance of the Cemetery, waiting for the staff member to return. Suddenly, it began to rain.
Xu Jing quickly pulled Zhou Qi under a nearby eave to shelter from the rain. However, Zhou Qi pushed her away and walked straight into the rain, kneeling in front of Li Xue's tombstone. Xu Jing followed him, holding an umbrella to shield him from the rain.
Zhou Qi knelt there motionless, as if he were unaware of the rain's presence. Xu Jing stood quietly beside him, accompanying him without saying a word.
After what felt like an eternity, Zhou Qi finally moved. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes red and swollen, tears streaming down his face. Xu Jing bent down to grasp his arm and softly said, "Don't kneel for too long; Xiao Xue would be heartbroken." Zhou Qi looked at her, his eyes reddening once more.
Xu Jing smiled slightly and said softly, "Get up, come back to see her later."
Zhou Qi bit his lip and finally stood up.
He leaned down and kissed Li Xue on the forehead, whispering, "I will come back to see you later."
After saying that, he straightened up and turned to walk out.
Xu Jing watched his back and smiled faintly.
She believed that Li Xue would feel sorry for Zhou Qi.
Because when Zhou Qi stood up, the rain had noticeably lessened, and by the time they walked out of the Cemetery, the rain had stopped and the sky was clear.
A few days later, Zhou Wenguang's infidelity scandal was exposed.
News surfaced online about "the head of the Provincial Department having an affair while married and fathering an illegitimate child."
However, this news only attracted attention in a small circle and quickly got drowned out by more celebrity gossip.
Nevertheless, it sparked a wave of speculation within the industry, with everyone guessing who Zhou Wenguang's illegitimate child was.
Some even wondered if Zhou Qi knew about this matter.
After all, Zhou Wenguang's affair was with Zhou Qi's mother.
Zhou Qi did not respond; he simply stayed quietly in Min City, not going anywhere.
Xu Jing had already gone to Yun City for work, while Zhou Qiang was still handling the handover and had not come over yet.
Xu Jing was worried that Zhou Wenguang's scandal would affect Zhou Qiang and hadn't slept well for several days.
Zhou Qiang called: "The result is out."
Xu Jing's heart skipped a beat as she nervously asked, "What happened?"
"Expelled from the party and removed from office early."
Xu Jing breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good."
"However," Zhou Qiang said seriously, "Night City called me."
Xu Jing was taken aback: "What did they want from you?"
"They asked me what my relationship with Zhou Wenguang is."
Xu Jing felt her heart race.
Zhou Qiang said softly, "I admitted it."
Xu Jing asked with concern, "Did they say anything else?"
"They asked me a few names."
Xu Jing was taken aback. "What names?"
Zhou Qiang listed a series of names, both male and female.
Xu Jing's heart raced again.
Those names were all Zhou Wenguang's illegitimate children.
Zhou Qiang said calmly, "They told me to inform them immediately if I have any news."
Xu Jing sighed in relief.
It seemed that those people only wanted to find Zhou Wenguang's illegitimate children through Zhou Qiang, and had no other intentions.
Xu Jing smiled and said, "That's good."
