Zhou Qi did not understand, "What do you like about him?"
Xu Jing was silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "You are not me; you wouldn't understand."
"..."
Zhou Qi truly did not understand.
He also could not comprehend why Xu Jing liked Zhou Qiang so much.
In his eyes, the relationship between Zhou Qiang and Xu Jing was merely a twisted form of love.
But Xu Jing did not think so.
She would always remember that winter night ten years ago when Zhou Qiang stood behind her, shielding her from her father's slap.
At that moment, Zhou Qiang told her, "With your brother here, no one dares to bully you."
In that instant, Xu Jing's heart was completely captured.
She vowed that for the rest of her life, no matter when or where, as long as Zhou Qiang needed her, she would unhesitatingly give her life back to him.
Just like how he saved her back then.
Zhou Qi could not understand her thoughts; he only assumed she was jealous.
Jealous of Zhou Qiang for having her love.
Xu Jing closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.
The next morning at six o'clock, Xu Jing was startled awake by the vibration of her phone.
It was a message from Zhou Qiang.
"I'm at your doorstep."
Xu Jing sat up abruptly.
She looked at the bedside, which was already empty.
Xu Jing breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, Zhou Qi had left around five-thirty.
She picked up her phone and replied to Zhou Qiang: "Thank you for your hard work on the way."
Zhou Qiang quickly replied: "It's not hard when I get to see you."
Xu Jing did not reply and got up to wash up.
When she finished changing her clothes and went downstairs, she happened to see Zhou Qiang's car arriving at the gate.
Xu Jing stood at the door waiting for him.
A few minutes later, Zhou Qiang got out of the car and walked towards her with a smile.
He was holding a delicate small handbag in his hand.
Xu Jing recognized what he was holding.
It was his favorite handbag, which he took with him every time he went out.
"Why are you standing here?" Zhou Qiang approached and handed the bag to Xu Jing. "This is for you."
Xu Jing took it and asked, "What is it?"
"Open it and see."
Xu Jing opened the bag and took out a black velvet box from inside.
She glanced at Zhou Qiang before opening the box.
Inside was a necklace.
Xu Jing frowned and said, "Didn’t we say not to buy anything?"
"I haven't forgotten since I saw it last time," Zhou Qiang replied with a smile. "I just think it suits you very well."
Xu Jing pressed her lips together and remained silent.
The two of them walked inside together, and just as they reached the dining room door, Xu Jing spotted Zhou Qi sitting inside.
Zhou Qi was sitting by the window, holding his phone and scrolling through the news.
Hearing the noise, he looked up, his gaze sweeping over Zhou Qiang's face before landing on Xu Jing beside him.
Xu Jing slightly lowered her eyes to avoid his gaze.
"Xiao Qi," Zhou Qiang's voice was warm and calm, "have you eaten?"
Zhou Qi withdrew his gaze and lowered his head to continue scrolling on his phone. "Are you trying to boss me around?"
"..."
Zhou Qiang's tone remained gentle: "That's not what I meant."
Zhou Qi said nothing, keeping his head down with an air of indifference towards him.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
Xu Jing noticed this and quickly spoke up, "I'll go check the kitchen for some ingredients."
After saying that, she turned to leave.
"No need," Zhou Qi suddenly interjected, "I'm almost full."
"..."
Xu Jing paused her steps and stopped.
Zhou Qi put down his phone and looked at her, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes: "Anyway, I have no dietary restrictions. You can make whatever you want."
"..."
Xu Jing certainly knew he had no restrictions. He just didn't want to make things easy for her.
"Then I'll cook you a bowl of noodles," Xu Jing said calmly, "What ingredients do you want to add?"
Zhou Qi looked at her, the corners of his mouth curling into a slight smile: "Add whatever you think tastes good."
"..."
Xu Jing didn't say anything more and turned to leave. She walked quickly, as if something terrifying was chasing her from behind.
Zhou Qiang watched her retreating figure, his brows slightly furrowed.
"She treats you quite well," Zhou Qi's voice rang out, tinged with mockery, "No wonder you're married."
Zhou Qiang turned his head to look at him: "Xiao Qi, our matters are none of anyone else's business."
"Is that so?" Zhou Qi raised an eyebrow, "What about you? She's so good to you; aren't you touched?"
"..."
Zhou Qiang looked at him without speaking.
Zhou Qi gazed at him, the smile on his lips deepening: "If she knew that you didn't care about her at all, what do you think she would feel?"
"..."
