In Yan Jien's home, Tong Liya sensed a strong feminine scent, which came from Yan Jien's neighbor, Yan Weila.
Tong Liya was filled with questions, but she didn't know how to ask.
“Liya, do you not like this decoration style?” Yan Jien noticed Tong Liya's unusual expression and asked curiously.
“Ah?” Tong Liya came back to her senses and quickly shook her head, “No, it looks nice.”
“This apartment is a second-hand one I bought before; the decoration was left by the previous owner. I only bought the furniture and soft furnishings,” Yan Jien explained.
“Oh.” Tong Liya nodded, distracted.
She walked over to the sofa and sniffed carefully; the rich fragrance became even more pronounced.
“What’s wrong?” Yan Jien asked in confusion.
“Yan Jien Gege, has anyone else lived in this house?” Tong Liya mustered the courage to ask.
“Hmm.” Yan Jien nodded and replied frankly, “My neighbor, an older sister, lived here for a while.”
“Ah?” Tong Liya exclaimed in surprise, her heart suddenly feeling flustered.
“Don’t misunderstand,” Yan Jien guessed Tong Liya's thoughts and explained, “That neighbor is a single mother; her daughter gets along well with my dog, so she often comes over to visit. Sometimes it gets too late, and she stays over for the night.”
“Oh.” Tong Liya breathed a sigh of relief.
“Liya, do you dislike others staying in your home?” Yan Jien asked.
“No…” Tong Liya shook her head and explained, “I just feel… it’s a bit inconvenient…”
“It is indeed a bit inconvenient,” Yan Jien nodded and said, “That’s why I bought this place.”
“Yan Jien Gege, is that sister… married?” Tong Liya couldn't help but ask.
“No,” Yan Jien shook his head.
“Is she… is she pretty?” Tong Liya asked again.
“She’s quite pretty,” Yan Jien smiled and said, “But not as pretty as you.”
“…” Tong Liya's face turned slightly red, but she felt inexplicably pleased inside.
“Liya, why don’t you go rest in the living room and watch some TV? I’ll clean up the room first,” Yan Jien said.
“I’ll help you,” Tong Liya offered.
“No need,” Yan Jien shook his head and said, “You just finished showering; take a break for a while.”
“Well… okay then,” Tong Liya hesitated for a moment before responding.
Yan Jien picked up the suitcase and walked into the second bedroom.
Tong Liya stood in the living room, looking around. The house had a simple and elegant decoration style, with all new furniture and appliances, making it look clean and tidy. Tong Liya really liked this house.
However, when she caught a whiff of the scent coming from the sofa in the living room, her expression changed instantly. She had smelled this scent before, at the door of room 2802 across the hall!
"Yan Jien, is your neighbor across the hall that sister?" Tong Liya couldn't help but ask.
"Yes," Yan Jien nodded, puzzled. "How did you know?"
"I... I smelled her fragrance," Tong Liya said softly.
"..." Yan Jien was taken aback for a moment and then smiled wryly. "Liya, your nose is really sharp."
"I'm sorry, Yan Jien," Tong Liya apologized.
"It's fine," Yan Jien waved his hand and said, "You can go play for now. I'll clean up the room and make you something to eat."
"Okay." Tong Liya nodded, walked to the living room, turned on the TV, and casually selected a program to watch.
"Woof Woof Woof!"
At that moment, barking came from the direction of the attic.
Tong Liya looked up curiously and asked, "Yan Jien, what’s your dog barking about?"
"Probably hungry," Yan Jien guessed.
"Then you should feed them quickly," Tong Liya said.
"Alright." Yan Jien nodded, put down the mop, and headed towards the attic.
Tong Liya hesitated for a moment but followed him. She was very curious to see what kind of dogs Yan Jien had.
The attic was set up as a doghouse, filled with various toys and treats. Two Huskies were excitedly tearing apart a toy.
"Yan Jien, is this what your dog looks like?" Tong Liya exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes," Yan Jien nodded and introduced them, "The male is named Bread, and the female is named Milk Tea."
"How cute!" Tong Liya exclaimed.
"Isn't it adorable?" Yan Jien replied with a smile, "But they are a bit too mischievous."
"Brother Yan Jien, why do they live in the attic?" Tong Liya asked curiously.
"I'm afraid they might disturb my rest," Yan Jien said.
"Oh," Tong Liya realized.
"Liya, did you know? Actually, having a dog can help us evolve," Yan Jien stated.
"Why is that?" Tong Liya asked, puzzled.
"Taking care of a dog requires time and energy, and it can also exercise our bodies and willpower," Yan Jien explained.
"That makes some sense," Tong Liya nodded thoughtfully.
"Moreover, having a dog can help us cover our identities," Yan Jien added.
"Cover our identities?" Tong Liya was confused.
"Our sense of smell and hearing are much sharper than ordinary people's. If we have a dog at home, we can use its senses to explain things," Yan Jien said.
"I see," Tong Liya nodded.
"Liya, you should get a dog too," Yan Jien suggested.
"Can I... really?" Tong Liya hesitated.
"Of course," Yan Jien nodded and said, "That way, even if you exhibit any unusual behavior in the future, you can blame it on the dog."
"But... I don't know what kind of dog to get," Tong Liya said awkwardly.
"Just get whatever kind of dog you like," Yan Jien replied.
"Then I'll think about it," Tong Liya said.
"Alright," Yan Jien nodded and said, "You can go play for now; I need to feed the dogs."
"Brother Yan Jien, can I watch from the side?" Tong Liya asked eagerly.
"Sure," Yan Jien smiled and said, "Just as long as you don't mind the smell."
"Mhm!" Tong Liya nodded excitedly.
Yan Jien walked into the attic, took out the dog food, and started feeding the bread and milk tea.
Tong Liya stood by curiously watching.
"Liya, have you noticed any changes after your mutation?" Yan Jien asked while feeding the dog.
"My hearing and sense of smell are sharper, and my body is stronger," Tong Liya replied.
"Is there anything else?" Yan Jien pressed.
"Other than that..." Tong Liya thought for a moment and hesitated, "I feel... like I'm not as afraid of sunlight..."
"That's a good thing," Yan Jien said reassuringly.
"Brother Yan Jien, what about you?" Tong Liya asked in return.
"I'm pretty much the same as you," Yan Jien said.
"Brother Yan Jien, why did you want me to move in with you?" Tong Liya asked curiously.
"I'm worried about you developing any abnormal traits that might be discovered by others," Yan Jien explained.
"Oh," Tong Liya said, understanding.
"Liya, how tall are you?" Yan Jien suddenly asked.
"1.65 meters," Tong Liya answered.
"And your weight?" Yan Jien asked again.
"92 jin," Tong Liya replied.
"How much do you weigh now?" Yan Jien inquired.
"I don't know," Tong Liya shook her head.
"Go weigh yourself," Yan Jien suggested.
"Oh," Tong Liya nodded and walked to the living room to grab the electronic scale and weigh herself.
"Brother Yan Jien, I've gained 4 jin," Tong Liya exclaimed in surprise.
"That's perfectly normal," Yan Jien said. "You've completed your mutation, your body has been enhanced, so weight gain is inevitable."
"I see," Tong Liya said, realizing it.
"Liya, what are your measurements?" Yan Jien asked.
"Huh?" Tong Liya was taken aback.
"I need to measure your body data," Yan Jien explained.
