One day, I went to the medical records room to submit some files and was busy all morning. When I returned, Qiu Jin, dressed in scrubs, clearly just out of surgery, was looking for me everywhere.
Seeing that I had finally come back, he looked quite aggrieved and said, "Song Yiqing, where have you been? I’ve been looking for you since I got out of surgery."
I was taken aback and replied, "Dr. Qiu, is there something you need from me?" My businesslike tone only made Qiu Jin angrier. He snatched the medical records from my hands and stormed off ahead.
It dawned on me that my tone had upset him. I quickly caught up to him, wrapped my arms around his, and coaxed, "Qiu Jin, please don’t be mad. I’m back now, aren’t I?"
Although Qiu Jin was still upset, he slowed his pace. He pretended to maintain a stern face while waiting for me to catch up and hold onto him.
I smiled as I hugged his arm and gently swayed it, saying, "Qiu Jin, please don’t be angry, okay?"
His expression softened a bit, but he still insisted stubbornly, "I’m not angry at all."
I laughed and pinched his cheek, saying, "Right, right, you’re not angry; it’s all my fault."
Qiu Jin huffed but finally looked much better. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his embrace. Leaning down close to my ear, he whispered softly, "Song Yiqing, I really miss you."
My heart warmed up like it was bathed in sunlight. I tightened my hold on him and sweetly replied, "Qiu Jin, I miss you too."
Qiu Jin smiled and patted my head before leaning down to kiss me. His kiss was gentle and lingering, carrying a faint fragrance that was intoxicating.
I closed my eyes and lost myself in his kiss. Just then, a light cough interrupted us from nearby. I opened my eyes to see our attending physician standing there.
I quickly pushed Qiu Jin away, blushing as I greeted, “Dr. Zhang.”
Dr. Zhang smiled and pointed at us, saying, “You young people are just too sweet; kissing in public like this, be mindful of your surroundings.”
After saying that, he walked away with a smile.
The days of my Internship were getting busier.
There were more patients in the neurology department than in neurosurgery, and I was busy every day writing medical records, issuing lab orders, and organizing case files, hardly having a moment to breathe.
The time I spent with Qiu Jin was decreasing, but I was no longer afraid.
I was working hard to keep up with him, and our relationship was becoming more solid.
One day, while I was sitting at the computer writing medical records, I suddenly received a phone call.
“Is this Song Yiqing? This is the neurosurgery department; Dr. Qiu has fainted after surgery. Please come immediately.”
My heart sank sharply.
Without thinking much, I dropped the phone and rushed to the operating room.
At the door of the operating room, I grabbed a nurse and asked, “Where is Dr. Qiu? How is he?”
The nurse looked confused: “Dr. Qiu didn’t have any surgery today.”
I was stunned: “Then what happened with him fainting?”
The nurse looked even more puzzled: “I don’t know; no one here has fainted.”
At that moment, laughter erupted behind me.
I turned around to see Qiu Jin standing not far away, grinning at me.
I instantly got angry and rushed over to hit him.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his embrace.
He laughed as he patted my head: “Song Yiqing, you really believed it?”
“Qiu Jin, you jerk!” I shouted angrily.
Laughter erupted again around us.
Qiu Jin chuckled and touched his nose: “Song Yiqing, I just wanted you to come see this operating room.”
"This operating room means a lot to me; my medical career started here, and my life was saved here."
I was stunned, finally processing the words.
This was Operating Room 18 in the Neurosurgery Department.
Qiu Jin placed a hand on my shoulder, gazing into my eyes.
He slowly said, "Song Yiqing, this is my beginning and also my rebirth."
"I want to propose to you here."
As he spoke, he pulled a ring from his pocket and knelt down in front of me.
"Song Yiqing, will you marry me?"
The surroundings fell silent as everyone waited for my response.
I looked at Qiu Jin, his eyes filled with tenderness and determination.
This moment was what I had waited five years for.
I gently nodded.
Cheers erupted around us as Qiu Jin stood up, pulling me tightly into his embrace.
His arms were warm and strong, making me feel incredibly safe.
I knew that this time, we would be happy together forever.
