My name is Shu Ran, and I am a novelist.
I often stayed up late to meet deadlines.
At the age of twenty-four, my family introduced me to a doctor through a blind date.
We got married just three days after we met.
At that time, I had a heavy workload and didn’t have time for a honeymoon, so I went on a business trip to work as a screenwriter.
I was gone for two months.
When I returned, I found out that I was pregnant.
I touched my baby bump, feeling the small life growing inside me.
The handsome doctor sitting across from me looked at my examination report from the neighboring city, disbelief written all over his face. There was a crack in his cold gaze.
"Pregnant for nine weeks. Besides me, your husband, do you have any other men?"
I looked at him in shock, my anger flaring up. "You’re talking nonsense! How could you be my husband? I'm going to file a complaint against you!"
The male doctor raised an eyebrow, looking calm. "You can call to file a complaint if you want, but after two months apart, you don’t even recognize your own husband?"
He took out his wallet, revealing a photo of us together. The girl in the picture smiled blissfully; it was clearly me, the naive and socially anxious version of myself. And next to her was none other than this doctor sitting in front of me.
My expression froze as I realized he had already picked up the phone. "Hello, I have a patient who wants to file a complaint! It's my wife!"
In the next moment, before I could process his bold move, the door to the consultation room swung open.
"Hello, family member of Doctor Yan Shaoqing. It's the first time I've heard that Doctor Yan would be complained about!"
"What issues do you have? Let's discuss it calmly; after all, we are family."
I looked up and realized this was the representative from the hospital who had officiated my marriage to Yan Shaoqing.
I felt embarrassed and blushed as I watched Yan Shaoqing perform in front of me.
"My wife came for an examination and actually thinks I'm not handsome enough to complain!"
The other person laughed heartily, "Doctor Yan is the heartthrob of our hospital. Recently, he's been a bit busier with surgeries, but now we’ll let you both go home and make a little monkey."
Yan Shaoqing's gaze flickered for a moment, filled with an inexplicable emotion that I couldn't quite decipher.
I awkwardly touched my nose and chuckled nervously, "It's a misunderstanding! Just a misunderstanding!"
No matter what, I shouldn't forget my husband.
This is really too embarrassing.
Yan Shaoqing cleared his throat, and only then did I realize that I was still holding his hand.
As a humble little author, I lowered my head while Yan Shaoqing instructed me to lie down for further examination.
"We're all very busy with work and haven't even had time to think about having children. Are you sure you're pregnant?" His tone was somewhat cold, but there was a hint of darkness in his eyes.
I told him, "I have a cold constitution, and my close friends usually experience delays every month, but recently it hasn't happened. I always thought it was due to work stress, and I didn't have time to go to a public hospital, so I visited a nearby small clinic instead."
Yan Shaoqing listened to my account silently. "If I had known you were at this hospital, I would have come to find you directly," he said.
He shot me a glance and didn’t respond, his eyes seemingly saying, "Didn't I tell you this before?"
After being looked down upon again, I obediently closed my mouth, but Yan Shaoqing asked, "Have there been any irregularities in your diet or daily routine lately?"
I tend to be oblivious and never pay attention to these things.
Yan Shaoqing's expression twitched. "You're not pregnant; it's just some bloating. You need to rest more. Your diet should be balanced, your routine regular, and you're experiencing some swelling and even mild anemia!"
His words hit me like a bolt from the blue. It wasn't until I confirmed the test results here that I realized the pregnancy was just a misunderstanding.
My face flushed red as I awkwardly glanced at him.
He frowned slightly and gently patted my head.
As soon as we got home, my mom started urging me about having children.
