"How did he get here?" Meng Liu thought to herself. Yesterday, she had emptied her hard-earned wallet to deal with this troublemaker. Now, seeing Qin Shou's bruised face, she felt a sense of satisfaction, but for the sake of her image, she pretended to be a bit scared and stood at the door, looking timidly.
"Don't look; it'll dirty your eyes," Ning Mu said as he walked over to block her view. Upon seeing their close relationship, Qin Shou struggled even more.
"Damn it, Ning Mu, you lied to me! I trusted you so much that I even handed over the negatives of the photos in my hand to you, and you chose to side with this filthy bitch—" Before Qin Shou could finish his sentence, Ji Haoyang punched him in the face, knocking out two of his teeth. His eyes rolled back as he seemed dazed from the blow.
"If you can't speak properly, then shut up," Ji Haoyang said arrogantly, shaking his fist.
"How else would I get all the photos in your hands?" Ning Mu stepped forward and lifted Qin Shou's chin with the tip of his shoe. "Besides, when did I ever say I would help you deal with Meng Liu?"
Qin Shou's eyes widened in disbelief. Then his gaze shifted to Meng Liu standing behind them, and his expression turned resentful as he shouted, "Meng Liu, do you know how I found you that day? It was your dear brother's sister, Ning Ning, who personally came to me!"
The atmosphere in the basement suddenly became tense; all eyes were on Meng Liu. She looked at Qin Shou with a cold glare. Due to the system's warning against breaking character, Meng Liu had to swallow back the curses that were about to spill from her mouth. "How can you slander Ning Ning like that? It was clearly you who retaliated against me out of embarrassment..."
Meng Liu's words trailed off as she choked up, losing the sharpness she had when scolding Qin Shou in class. She lowered her head and quietly sobbed, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
"You filthy bitch!" Qin Shou was infuriated by her act of playing weak and struggled to charge at her but was kicked down by Ji Haoyang. Ji Haoyang called over the bodyguards on either side. "Cover his mouth and break his legs before throwing him at the Qin family's doorstep. If anyone asks, just say it was done by the Ji family; they can come directly to me if there's any trouble."
"This is a matter for the Meng Family; there's no need for your Ji family to meddle," Ning Mu retorted.
Ji Haoyang refused to back down and countered Ning Mu sharply. "You said it's a matter for the Meng Family; what right does someone with the surname Ning have to interfere? Moreover, Meng Liu is engaged to me; becoming part of my Ji family is only a matter of time. How can my involvement be considered meddling?"
Seeing that neither of them was willing to yield, Meng Liu quietly slipped out of the basement. She knew someone would handle Qin Shou's situation without her worrying about it. What she needed to think about now was another matter—without Ning Ning present, her outcome could not be achieved. She didn't believe that Qin Shou would make baseless accusations when pushed into a corner; this person would do anything for profit, let alone tell an inconsequential lie.
Furthermore, she felt that Ning Ning was not someone who would resort to such means for revenge against her. The world was inherently twisted in its values; she wasn't exactly a person with upright morals herself, but for some reason, she believed that Ning Ning wouldn't go so far as to harm her without hesitation.
Heavy footsteps followed behind her. Meng Liu turned around and saw Su Shi'an's face; he looked unwell and seemed hesitant to speak.
