"Three days from now, I will make everyone know what happens to those who mess with me..." Lin Ke'er suddenly stood up, her eyes flashing with a cold light, her tone resolute as if she had made a significant decision.
Her transformation left everyone in the café stunned, including the quiet companion beside her. Quiet looked at Lin Ke'er in surprise; the gentle and kind girl she knew seemed to have turned into a different person, exuding a fierce aura.
"Ke'er, you..." Quiet reached out to grab Lin Ke'er, but she was gently pushed away.
"Quiet, you don't need to worry. I'm fine," Lin Ke'er took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within her. "I just realized that I can't sit here and wait any longer."
Her words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring up waves. Everyone was astonished; the fragile girl they knew seemed to have transformed overnight, her eyes filled with hatred and determination.
At the same time, Xiao Tian's phone vibrated. He casually pulled it out of his pocket; the screen displayed a message from an unknown number—no notes, no greeting, just an address that made him feel an unprecedented sense of crisis.
Xiao Tian narrowed his eyes slightly, his fingertips lightly tapping on the table as he fell into thought. He keenly sensed that this could be a trap and was intricately related to the "them" Lin Ke'er had mentioned.
"Seventh Master, what's wrong?" Meng Shaohui, sitting across from him, noticed Xiao Tian's unusual demeanor and asked curiously.
Xiao Tian did not answer immediately but handed his phone to Meng Shaohui. "Check this address."
Meng Shaohui took the phone and quickly skimmed through the message content, his brows furrowing. "This place is a bit remote; it's out in the wilderness. Who would invite you to such a location?"
"We'll find out when we go," Xiao Tian replied calmly but with an undeniable firmness. To protect Lin Ke'er and to draw out the enemy, Xiao Tian decided to go alone; a storm was about to arrive.
He picked up his coat and stood up to leave.
"I'm going too!" Meng Shaohui stood up as well, knowing this mission was unusual and worried that Xiao Tian would be in danger alone.
Xiao Tian patted Meng Shaohui's shoulder. "You stay here and protect Ke'er and the others."
After speaking, he walked out of the café without looking back, leaving only a tall silhouette behind. Outside the window, dark clouds gathered and the wind howled, as if foretelling an impending storm.
Xiao Tian drove alone towards the address in the text message, the heavy night enveloping the earth, with the dim light of the street lamps being torn apart by the fierce wind. His expression was grave, his fingers gripping the steering wheel turning slightly pale; he knew that a fierce battle awaited him.
In the desolate outskirts, an abandoned factory exuded a chilling and terrifying atmosphere. Xiao Tian stopped the car, and silence surrounded him, broken only by the howling wind echoing in his ears. He pushed open the car door, a wave of coldness hit him, and he cautiously scanned his surroundings before slowly walking into the factory.
Inside the spacious workshop, machines were rusted and various debris littered the floor, while a damp and decayed smell filled the air. Xiao Tian slowed his pace, carefully observing his surroundings; he knew that enemies might be lurking in the shadows, waiting for his arrival.
"Are you here?" A deep voice broke the silence from deep within the factory.
Xiao Tian turned towards the sound and saw a tall figure slowly emerging from the shadows. Dressed in a black trench coat and wearing sunglasses, his face was obscured, emanating an icy killing intent.
"Who are you?" Xiao Tian asked coldly.
"You don't need to know who I am," replied the man in black with a frigid tone. "You only need to know that today is your day to die!"
As soon as he finished speaking, more than ten burly men in black suddenly rushed out from behind him, wielding steel pipes and machetes, their faces twisted with malice as they charged at Xiao Tian.
A slight smirk appeared at the corner of Xiao Tian's mouth; he knew he had fallen into the enemy's trap.
"Come on!" Xiao Tian roared, his figure darting like a leopard as he swiftly dodged while launching powerful punches without mercy.
The sound of fists and feet colliding echoed dully. Xiao Tian fought against many opponents with ease; every move was filled with strength and skill. However, outnumbered by trained thugs, he gradually began to feel overwhelmed.
"Bang!" In a moment of distraction, Xiao Tian was kicked in the chest by one of the burly men and staggered back several steps. Before he could regain his footing, another thug swung a steel pipe violently towards his head.
At a critical moment, Xiao Tian sidestepped to avoid the attack, but the steel pipe still grazed his arm, causing a deep gash and blood to flow freely.
"Seventh Master!"
Suddenly, a clear voice rang out at the entrance of the factory. Xiao Tian was startled and turned to see Lin Ke'er and Meng Shaohui rushing in with a group of people.
"Ke'er, what are you doing here?" Xiao Tian asked anxiously, not expecting Lin Ke'er to appear in this situation.
"I'm here to help you!" Lin Ke'er said firmly, showing no signs of fear.
"Hmph, just in time. Today, you won't leave here alive!" The man in black snorted coldly and waved his hand, signaling the burly men behind him to surround Xiao Tian and the others.
"Attack!"
With Lin Ke'er's command, her followers brandished their weapons and charged at the men in black without hesitation.
It turned out that Lin Ke'er had secretly contacted Old Detective and learned about the dangers Xiao Tian was facing. Knowing the power of the mastermind behind it all, Old Detective discreetly gathered a group of elite police officers, preparing to take them down.
A chaotic battle erupted once again, filling the factory with shouts of killing, flashes of blades, and bloodshed. Although Xiao Tian was severely injured, he fought fiercely. His gaze was sharp, and his movements were ruthless; every strike carried a lethal determination.
In the midst of the fierce fighting, Xiao Tian unexpectedly noticed that the men in black seemed to be intentionally protecting a slender man wearing a baseball cap.
"Could he be the mastermind?" Xiao Tian thought to himself, deciding to seize this opportunity to uncover the true identity of the puppet master.
He spotted an opening and dashed toward the man in the baseball cap like lightning, grabbing his collar and dragging him out from the crowd.
Xiao Tian swiftly held the man in the baseball cap by the neck, using him as a shield while scanning the surrounding men in black with hawk-like eyes. His tone was icy as he commanded, "Everyone stop!"
The men in black exchanged glances, but under the pressure of Xiao Tian's presence, they all halted their actions, hesitating to lower their weapons.
"Seventh Master..." Meng Shaohui quickly signaled the others behind him to stop attacking.
Inside the factory, the previously deafening sounds of fighting abruptly ceased, and the air was thick with the smell of blood, with only the sound of hurried breathing echoing in the silence.
The man in the cap was firmly restrained by Xiao Tian, struggling to breathe as his face turned red, yet he remained silent, the brim of his hat obscuring his expression and making it impossible to see his eyes.
"Who are you?" Xiao Tian's voice was cold as he tightened his grip.
The man in the cap gasped for breath and stammered, "Cough... you... you don't... recognize me anymore? Xiao Tian..."
Hearing that familiar name come from a stranger's mouth sent a shock through Xiao Tian. He looked down at the man in his arms in disbelief. "You... how do you know my name? Who are you?"
The man in the cap struggled to lift his head and slowly removed his hat, revealing a weathered face that was unmistakably that of someone he hadn't seen in years—
"Old Li?!" Xiao Tian exclaimed, staring incredulously at the familiar face before him. Old Li had been a trusted assistant to his father and a guardian figure during his upbringing. After his father's unexpected death, he lost all contact with Old Li, never expecting to reunite under such circumstances.
"It's me... cough..." Old Li nodded weakly, a flicker of complex emotion passing through his once-cloudy eyes.
"How could it be you? How did you end up with these people?" Xiao Tian was filled with questions. Although Old Li had only been his father's assistant, he was honest and loyal—how could he have ended up like this?
"It's a long story..." Old Li sighed heavily. "Some things are not as simple as you think..." He paused and gestured toward the direction behind Xiao Tian. "Let me go first; I'll explain everything slowly..."
Xiao Tian hesitated for a moment, glancing at the surrounding menacing figures in black and at Lin Ke'er and others nearby who looked tense. Ultimately, he slowly released his grip on Old Li's neck.
Once freed, Old Li coughed violently a few times, greedily inhaling fresh air before straightening his disheveled clothes. He then turned to look at Old Detective not far away, a glimmer of sharpness flashing in his eyes.
"Old friend, it's been a long time," Old Li said calmly, as if the life-and-death struggle they had just endured was nothing more than an inconsequential farce.
Old Detective furrowed his brow, his sharp gaze fixed intently on Old Li. "Old Li, you really disappoint me."
Old Li let out a bitter laugh. "Disappointed? Ha, haven't you disappointed me just as much? Back in the day..."
"Enough!" Xiao Tian interrupted Old Li sharply. What he wanted to know now was not about their past grievances, but rather what was going on. "Old Li, why did you do this? Why did you betray us?"
Old Li did not answer Xiao Tian's question but turned to Lin Ke'er, a complex expression flashing in his eyes. "Child, do you really want to know the truth? The truth is often more brutal than you can imagine..."
Lin Ke'er met Old Li's gaze fearlessly, her eyes resolute. "I'm not afraid. I want to know the truth; I want justice for my friends!"
---
Old Li looked deeply at Lin Ke'er and slowly spoke, his tone carrying a hint of weariness and helplessness. "Child, you are too young; there are some things you do not yet understand..."
"Understand what?" Xiao Tian asked, his brow furrowed as an uneasy feeling rose within him. "Old Li, what are you hiding?"
Ignoring Xiao Tian, Old Li shifted his gaze to Old Detective and managed a bitter smile. "Old friend, perhaps it's better if you explain. Some things might be more convincing coming from you."
After a moment of silence, Old Detective nodded and stepped in front of Lin Ke'er. His expression softened as he looked at her, and with a heavy tone, he asked, "Child, do you believe in fate?"
Lin Ke'er paused for a moment, unsure why Old Detective suddenly posed this question, but she nodded nonetheless. "I believe."
"Then do you believe that some people are destined to bear special missions from birth?" Old Detective continued, his eyes filled with compassion and resignation.
"Mission?" Lin Ke'er was even more confused. She was just an ordinary high school student; how could she have a special mission?
The Old Detective did not directly answer Lin Ke'er's question but turned to Xiao Tian, speaking in a serious tone, "Seventh Master, do you remember I told you before that this is all a trap?"
Xiao Tian's heart sank, and scenes from his previous meeting with the Old Detective flashed through his mind. At that time, the Old Detective had informed him that a vast dark force was lurking in the shadows, manipulating everything, and he was merely a pawn in their plan.
"Could it be..." Xiao Tian seemed to realize something, and his expression suddenly turned grim.
The Old Detective nodded and said solemnly, "That's right; this is all to protect her..." He pointed at Lin Ke'er.
"Protect me?" Lin Ke'er was even more bewildered. She couldn't understand what was worth protecting about her.
At that moment, Old Li suddenly spoke up, his tone heavy. "This is all to protect you..." His voice was filled with helplessness and sorrow, as if he were revealing a difficult secret.
"To protect me?" Lin Ke'er murmured to herself, her mind in chaos. "Why? Who am I really?"
Old Li took a deep breath and slowly said, "Child, your background..." He paused, seemingly gathering his thoughts. "Your background hides a shocking secret..."
