"You are 'X', the top expert in the industry. Your fees are worth it; I will dedicate myself fully to learning." I took a deep breath and spoke firmly.
"Alright, I'll give you an address. Tomorrow at eight in the morning, be punctual." The voice continued with a hint of challenge. "Your achievements are well-known to me; your code remains unmatched!"
I hung up the phone, determination shining in my eyes. This was my only chance for a comeback, and I had to seize it.

"Long time no see, Chen Kai." I stood up, calmly looking at him, my lips slightly curling as I leaned back against the chair, my tone laced with disdain.
I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my inner emotions, and said calmly, "I'm here for work, not to reminisce."
"Work? With you?" Chen Kai laughed as if he had heard a joke, scoffing lightly. "Do you think this is just any place?" He revealed a knowing smile. Chen Kai clearly paused for a moment, evidently not expecting to see me here. He squinted his eyes and scrutinized me from head to toe, a hint of contempt flashing in his gaze.
"What are you here for?" Chen Kai asked with an unfriendly tone.
"I'm here for an interview," I replied flatly. "Do you think anyone can just walk in here?"
"I will prove my worth with my abilities," I stated firmly, not backing down.
Chen Kai narrowed his eyes as he assessed me again, a cruel glint appearing in his eyes. "Alright, let's see what you're capable of." He picked up a document and tossed it in front of me. "Answer this," he commanded, fixing his gaze on me without flinching.
"With just you?" Chen Kai sneered. "You should know this isn't a place anyone can enter."
"Whether I can enter or not isn't up to you," I replied calmly but with unwavering determination in my eyes.
Chen Kai wanted to say something else, but I was already turning away with the project requirements document in hand. "I want to see your code in three days."
I picked up the document and left the office. I knew this was just the beginning; a war without gunpowder had already begun.

I looked up, rubbed my tired eyes, and smiled wryly. "This isn't a 'welcome gift'; it's clearly a 'warning.'"
Su Wan sat down in the chair next to me and handed me the coffee, saying softly, "Don't be discouraged; Chen Kai likes to give newcomers a warning. When I first arrived, he also gave me 'special attention.'"
I took a sip of coffee; its bitter taste spread across my tongue but helped me feel more awake. "Thank you, Su Wan," I said gratefully as I looked at her. "If it weren't for your help before, I might not have even had the chance for an interview."

Su Wan looked at me, a hint of appreciation in her eyes. She didn't say anything more, just gently patted my shoulder before getting up and leaving, giving me space. I knew she believed in me.
In the following two days, I spent almost all my time at the office. I worked tirelessly, immersing myself in learning new knowledge and overcoming one technical challenge after another. My eyes were bloodshot, and my face had grown pale from the long nights, but I showed no signs of slackening because I knew I couldn't afford to lose or let Su Wan down.
On the night before the deadline, I finally completed all the coding and testing work. I let out a long sigh of relief and leaned back wearily in my chair. Looking at the dense lines of code on the screen, a sense of accomplishment washed over me. Chen Kai looked up, his gaze lingering on my face for a few seconds before he picked up the document and began to flip through it casually.
I stood in front of his desk, quietly waiting for his response. The office was silent except for the faint ticking of the clock on the wall.
Time passed second by second, and Chen Kai remained silent, his brow slightly furrowed, seemingly dissatisfied with my revisions.
I sneered inwardly but maintained a calm exterior, patiently waiting for his reaction.
Finally, Chen Kai set down the requirements document, looked up at me with piercing eyes, and spoke with a hint of sarcasm, "Are you sure this is your final version after the revisions?"
Meeting his gaze without flinching, I replied, "Yes, Director Chen, I have done my best."
Chen Kai scoffed, tossing the requirements document onto the table. His tone was icy as he said, "Done your best? This is what you call your best? I gave you plenty of time; is this how you repay me?"
