I took my bag, walked to the door, changed my shoes, and prepared to go out.
"Wife." Xie Zhong suddenly called out to me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him. "What is it?"
He looked at me deeply. "It's nothing, just be careful."
I smiled at him. "Got it."
As I closed the door, my smile instantly froze on my lips.
I hadn't received any call at all.
I said that just to test Xie Zhong.
I thought he would tell me not to go.
But he didn't.
Maybe he was actually hoping I would leave so he could go find Xia Ranran.
Sure enough, half an hour later, Xie Zhong's phone rang.
He glanced at the phone and then walked to the balcony to answer it.
His expression turned serious. "What? How could this happen? Okay, wait for me; I'll be there right away."
He hung up the phone and hurried into the bedroom, grabbing a jacket before heading out.
I quickly called out to him, "What happened?"
He glanced at me. "A batch of new materials at the company has the wrong specifications; I need to go personally."
I stood up. "I'll go with you."
"No need; just stay home and rest well. I'll be back soon."
I looked at him. "Are you sure you don't need me to come?"
"No, just wait for me at home."
After saying that, he put on his jacket and pushed the door open to leave.
The moment the door closed, it felt like my heart had dropped into an ice cellar.
It was so cold that my bones ached. Tears streamed down my face once again, uncontrollably. I took out my phone and dialed Lizi's number.
“ Lizi, Xia Ranran has taken Xie Zhong away.”
“What? She actually called Xie Zhong away again?”
“Yeah, she just called him and said that the company received a batch of materials with incorrect specifications, and that Xie Zhong needed to handle it personally.”
“Damn it, that shameless woman! She’s trying to break you two apart again! I’ll send someone to stake out that old apartment right now. This time, we must catch Xie Zhong in the act!”
“Okay.”
That night was a torment for me. I lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Just before eleven o'clock, my phone suddenly rang. I quickly picked it up; it was Lizi calling.
“ Meng, I got the footage!”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I just spoke to the person I sent. He said he saw Xie Zhong holding a child, and Xia Ranran was following behind him. They came out of that apartment and then drove away.”
“A child?”
“Yes, the child is about three or four months old!”
“How do you know how old the child is?”
“My person got a clear shot of the child’s face. I’ve seen it; the child is indeed about three months old.”
My face turned pale instantly. Xia Ranran and Xie Zhong had actually had a child together. And the child was already this big.
“ Meng, are you okay?” Lizi asked with concern.
I took a deep breath, “I’m fine, Lizi, thank you.”
“Between us, there’s no need to say thank you. Don’t worry, I will definitely help you get justice!”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, I placed my mobile on the nightstand and closed my eyes weakly.
After a while, Lizi sent me several video clips.
I opened the videos and saw Xie Zhong holding a child, with Xia Ranran following behind him.
There was another video of Xie Zhong and Xia Ranran together at the hospital.
They looked really close.
Close enough to seem like a couple.
I watched Xie Zhong in the video; his gaze was so gentle.
When he spoke to Xia Ranran, there was a smile on his face.
This smile came from the heart.
Having been with him for so many years, I hadn’t seen him smile like that in a long time.
I thought, maybe he really has fallen in love with Xia Ranran.
After all, they have a child together.
This child has tightly bound their relationship.
I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, tears streaming down silently.
