I let Su Qing go back first and told her to wait for my news. Su Qing hesitated for a moment but ultimately left. I returned to my bedroom and sent a message to my lawyer, asking about the insurance payout related matters. The lawyer replied quickly, stating that if the insured intentionally harmed or murdered someone, the insurance company would not pay out. With this information, I felt completely at ease. It seemed that Lo Sen and Aunt Lin's plan to collect the insurance compensation after my death would fall through.
I organized my emotions and walked out of the bedroom. In the living room, Lo Sen and Aunt Lin were cheerfully discussing something. When they saw me come out, both immediately wiped the smiles off their faces. Lo Sen cleared his throat a couple of times and asked, " Bai Xi, are you hungry?" I shook my head. Lo Sen's expression turned somewhat unpleasant; he probably thought I was taking too long to die.
I knew he must be cursing me for not dying. I spoke calmly, "I've thought it over; I've decided to give up on treatment." As soon as I finished speaking, Lo Sen's eyes lit up, and he eagerly asked, "Have you really come to terms with it?" "Yes," I replied softly.
Aunt Lin stood up excitedly, saying, "Since you've made up your mind, let's hurry up and handle the paperwork so we don't have any more delays." I lifted my eyelids to look at her. "What paperwork?" Aunt Lin impatiently replied, "Of course it's the divorce paperwork! You're going to die anyway; shouldn't you hurry up and leave your assets to Sensen?"
I frowned slightly. "But... I still have some assets in my name." "You're going to be dead; what do you need those assets for?" Aunt Lin's tone became sharp. "Just think of it as doing a good deed by leaving those assets to Sensen." I pressed my lips together and remained silent.
Seeing that I was unwilling to budge, Lo Sen immediately put on a heartfelt expression and said, " Bai Xi, given your current health condition, there's no way to continue treatment. I don't want to waste money on you; I hope you can understand." Looking at his hypocritical demeanor made me feel sick inside.
I glanced deeply at Lo Sen and said, "Alright, I promise you, I'll go handle the divorce procedures tomorrow."
Aunt Lin and Lo Sen immediately brightened up at my words.
Aunt Lin eagerly urged, "Then hurry up, don't waste any more time."
I nodded and called the lawyer in front of them, scheduling the divorce procedures for tomorrow morning.
After hearing the lawyer's confirmation, Aunt Lin and Lo Sen finally felt relieved, both of them excitedly flushed as if they could already see piles of cash laid out before them.
Their excited voices echoed in my ears as I quietly sat on the sofa, watching their smug expressions with a cold smirk at the corner of my mouth.
They thought they had won for sure, unaware that everything was under my control.
Hidden within that divorce agreement was a secret clause to protect my assets.
They wanted my money? Not a chance!
The next morning, I arrived at the law firm at the agreed time.
Aunt Lin and Lo Sen had arrived early, their faces beaming with victorious smiles.
I sat down expressionlessly, trying hard to force a look of sorrow and helplessness.
My eyes were bloodshot, and I appeared utterly dejected.
Seeing me like this only intensified the smiles on Aunt Lin and Lo Sen's faces.
They probably thought I had completely given up the struggle.
The lawyer took out the divorce agreement and placed it in front of the three of us.
I casually flipped it open and saw it filled with dense legal jargon, which made my head ache a bit.
After glancing through it briefly, I closed the agreement and said, "I'll sign."
Aunt Lin and Lo Sen were pleased by my quick agreement, their smiles growing even wider.
The lawyer handed me a pen, and I signed my name on the agreement.
After signing, I pushed both the pen and the agreement back to the lawyer.
The lawyer checked everything over and confirmed there were no errors before putting away the agreement.
Aunt Lin and Lo Sen looked relieved as everything was settled. They exchanged a smile, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
The atmosphere in the conference room was icy, and only the sound of my heartbeat grew faster. I recalled the legal provisions I had set up in my mind, and a faint smile appeared on my lips. This time, I finally won.
