Yan Jien did not expect to encounter Tong Liya at Power Fitness Club.
"She must be a new client; I haven't heard her mention working out at this gym before," Yan Jien thought.
Tong Liya was sweating profusely on the treadmill, while a burly young trainer hovered around her, fawning over her.
"Wait, isn't that Zhou Tingzhi?" Upon recognizing the trainer's face, Yan Jien frowned slightly.
Zhou Tingzhi was the ex-boyfriend of one of Yan Jien's female clients. When Yan Jien accompanied that client to look at building materials, Zhou Tingzhi assumed Yan Jien was trying to steal his girlfriend and brought a group of friends to confront him. If it weren't for Yan Jien's skills, he might have ended up in the hospital for a while.
At that time, Yan Jien chose to call the police to avoid trouble and spare his client any hassle. After the police mediated, Zhou Tingzhi compensated him with two thousand yuan for medical expenses, and the matter was settled.
"What a jerk; he actually came here to be a trainer," Yan Jien said with a grim expression.
He intended to turn and leave but heard Tong Liya's voice behind him: "Yan Jien, do you know Coach Zhou?"
"I don't know him," Yan Jien shook his head.
"Oh," Tong Liya replied and then ignored him.
Seeing this, Zhou Tingzhi's eyes shifted, and he immediately said, "Liya, what's your friend's name?"
"His name is Yan Jien," Tong Liya replied.
"Yan Jien?" Zhou Tingzhi pretended to be surprised.
"You know him?" Tong Liya asked in confusion.
"What is your relationship with him?" Zhou Tingzhi pressed further.
"He is my colleague," Tong Liya said.
"Oh, so he's a colleague," Zhou Tingzhi understood in his heart.
"Why are you asking this?" Tong Liya was curious.
"That guy is not a good person; you should stay away from him," Zhou Tingzhi lowered his voice.
"Huh? Why do you say that?" Tong Liya was puzzled.
"Do you remember the girlfriend I had last month? While I was dating her, this guy often took advantage of my absence to invite my girlfriend to look at building materials. There was even one time when he sneaked into her house while she was home alone doing chores and tried to assault her. Luckily, she fought back fiercely, or he would have succeeded," Zhou Tingzhi claimed.
"No way! He doesn't seem like that kind of person," Tong Liya said skeptically.
"You can't judge a book by its cover; you didn't see how embarrassed he looked when I caught him back then. Plus, he even teamed up with my girlfriend to frame me! If my girlfriend hadn't been loyal and told me the truth in time, I might have believed it," Zhou Tingzhi lied through his teeth.
"Is everything you said true?" Tong Liya asked, somewhat skeptical.
"Of course it's true. How could I possibly lie about something like this?" Zhou Tingzhi replied earnestly.
"Liya, don't listen to his nonsense. He was trying to force my friend, and when my friend called the police, they intervened and he ended up paying me two thousand yuan for medical expenses," Yan Jien said, having returned at some point.
"You... you're lying!" Zhou Tingzhi retorted, his bravado faltering.
"Am I lying? Take out your phone, open Alipay, and check the transaction record from August 23rd of last year. That will tell you everything," Yan Jien scoffed.
"I did pay you for medical expenses, but that was because you defamed my girlfriend first," Zhou Tingzhi argued defensively.
"When did I defame your girlfriend?" Yan Jien shot back angrily.
"You said she was too old and ugly to be with me," Zhou Tingzhi began to twist the truth.
"How old is your girlfriend?" Tong Liya asked.
"She is 32 this year," Zhou Tingzhi replied.
"I'm 28 this year, so your girlfriend is older than me. By your logic, I wouldn't even be worthy of carrying your shoes," Yan Jien scolded.
"You... you're slandering me!" Zhou Tingzhi yelled in frustration.
"I'm slandering you? Your girlfriend came to the company looking for me, and I accompanied her to the building materials market. You showed up with a large group of people to confront me without saying a word. If I hadn't reacted quickly, I might have ended up in the hospital. After I called the police, they reviewed the surveillance footage from the market and confirmed that your girlfriend came looking for me on her own. I was able to clear my name; otherwise, you would have framed me," Yan Jien said angrily.
"I didn't!" Zhou Tingzhi denied vehemently.
"Whether you did or not can be confirmed by checking the surveillance footage with the manager," Yan Jien replied coldly.
At that moment, the gym manager Fang Qing approached: "What's going on?"
"Manager Fang, you're just in time. This Mr. Yan says I confronted him outside with a group of people. Can you clarify whether I'm an employee here and if I've ever done such a thing?" Zhou Tingzhi immediately sought help from Fang Qing.
Fang Qing turned to Yan Jien: "Sir, are you mistaken?"
"Manager Fang, don't believe him; he's just a shameless scoundrel," Tong Liya interjected.
"Liya, why are you taking his side?" Zhou Tingzhi exclaimed, eyes wide in disbelief.
"Zhou Tingzhi, stop trying to defend yourself. I was truly blind before; how could I have ever liked someone like you?" Tong Liya said with disdain on her face.
"Liya, you..." Zhou Tingzhi attempted to argue again.
"Sir, this is a gym; if you want to continue working out here, please follow our rules. If you're going to cause trouble, we'll have no choice but to ask you to leave," Fang Qing stated firmly.
"I-I didn't cause any trouble," Zhou Tingzhi immediately defended himself.
"Well, if you didn't cause any trouble, then just focus on your work and stop wandering around here," Fang Qing reprimanded.
"I-I'll go back right now," Zhou Tingzhi said as he left in a dejected manner.
After this commotion, many customers around cast disdainful glances at Zhou Tingzhi.
