The Princess Residence has not yet been completed, so I am temporarily staying at Li Jue's home. Once my mansion is finished, I will move there.
On the night of the wedding, I struggled to walk on the bluestone bricks of Shen Residence while wearing a red veil.
"One step, two steps, three steps..."
I counted my steps and thought helplessly, why is this path so long?
I was dressed in a heavy wedding gown, wrapped in layers of fabric as the old maid beside the Queen had specially bound me tightly for my waist. I felt as large as two maids combined.
On top of that, the phoenix crown on my head was unbearably heavy, and the oppressive veil made me feel like I was suffocating.
After finally entering the bridal chamber, the Matchmaker and the maids guarded me like door gods, making me feel even more uncomfortable.
Li Jue was outside drinking and eating, leaving me here to suffer alone—why should it be this way?
I couldn't help but sigh skyward, "Heaven, oh Earth, the slogan of the twenty-first century is equality for all, gender equality!"
Unfortunately, no one could hear my heartfelt cries.
I don't know how long I waited; I leaned against the side of the bed and unknowingly fell asleep.
When I woke up, I found another person in the room.
Li Jue had returned; he was squatting beside me, pinching my arm with two fingers and observing me closely.
I was startled and quickly pulled back my arm.
Li Jue stumbled back a few steps.
Oh no, I must have pulled too hard.
It was a habit formed from years of manual labor.
Feeling embarrassed, I scratched my head and realized that my hair had gotten tangled with the phoenix crown, causing me immense pain.
I had no choice but to forcefully untangle it; my scalp tingled painfully as I pulled out quite a bit of hair.
Li Jue stood by silently with his arms crossed, watching me without saying a word.
"Husband~" I adjusted my voice and called him sweetly, "Help me~"
Only then did Li Jue step forward to grasp the golden hairpin on my head and patiently begin to untie it one by one.
In the copper mirror, Li Jue's face appeared blurry yet strikingly beautiful; I found myself momentarily entranced by it.
Just as I was lost in his beauty, he suddenly pressed a golden hairpin against my throat and coldly asked, "Who are you?"
His expression was fierce, his complexion pale, completely different from the blush he had before.
I had no intention of pretending with him and simply admitted, "I am Shen Zishu, the princess of Nanyue."
"Shen Zishu?" Li Jue scoffed, clearly not believing me. "You are not Shen Zishu. Who are you really? Are you borrowing a corpse or is it a ghost possessing you?"
I was speechless. Could he think any more absurdly? However, I could understand him. After all, the original owner was an introverted, timid girl who was gentle and weak, while I was someone who loved boldly and spoke my mind. We were completely different people.
But if I wasn't Shen Zishu, then who could I be? I couldn't be bothered to explain to him and instead said in a sweet voice, "Husband~ A moment of spring night is worth a thousand gold; let's rest early~"
"You say I'm a ghost. If the sun rises tomorrow, won't I be burned to death?"
"Oh dear, how pitiful! I can't meet my in-laws, can't go shopping, and can only hide in the house for the rest of my life..."
Li Jue interrupted my performance. "My parents have already passed away."
"Oh." I elongated the sound reluctantly as I got up. "Well, it seems I'm not acting convincingly."
"You touch my heart, it's warm."
I grabbed Li Jue's hand and placed it on my chest.
Li Jue pulled his hand back as if shocked, a flicker of annoyance crossing his face.
"Stop messing around, it's late. Let's go to sleep."
"Li Jue, you can't really be that incapable, can you?"
I looked at him provocatively, which made Li Jue angrily fling his sleeves and leave the room.
To my surprise, his earlobes actually turned red.
I was amused and astonished; no way, really?
The esteemed Grand Tutor is actually this innocent?
