Three days had passed.
That morning, at Nanquan City, in the Xiufeng Criminal Investigation Team's technical department, a technician in a white lab coat approached Li Yanqiu and Han Li with a folder in hand.
"Team Leader Li, Brother Han, the results are in," he said.
"How is it?" Li Yanqiu asked.
"From the few pieces of skin tissue we examined, there is no body hair, or very little," the technician replied.
"So this Golden Eagle might be a hairless Golden Eagle?" Li Yanqiu furrowed his brow.
"No, what I mean is that this unidentified creature may have no hair or very little hair," the technician clarified.
"Can we extract its DNA?" Li Yanqiu inquired.
"The probability of extracting detectable DNA from such small skin samples is very low, but we are still trying. If we're lucky, we should have results in about a week," the technician explained.
"Alright, thank you for your efforts," Li Yanqiu nodded.
"You're welcome," the technician smiled and returned to his post.
"Team Leader Li, what should we do next?" Han Li asked.
"In this time frame, three missing Golden Eagles have been reported, all of which have vanished without a trace, and there are no leads. We've already been pressed by higher-ups several times; if this continues, we'll be in serious trouble," Li Yanqiu rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"I think we should look for Yan Jien again," Han Li suggested after some thought.
"Oh? Why?" Li Yanqiu asked curiously.
"Last time he was loitering near the wooden hut, right? I noticed his expression was strange, as if he had seen something terrifying, but there was nothing on the surveillance footage. I suspect..." Han Li hesitated to finish his thought.
"Suspend what?" Li Yanqiu pressed.
"I suspect that he picked up the black garbage bag containing the hairless Golden Eagle," Han Li stated.
"This..." Li Yanqiu was taken aback.
"Of course, this is just my guess; we need to investigate further to know for sure," Han Li added.
"Alright then, let's go investigate now," Li Yanqiu decided after some contemplation.
At nine o'clock that morning, Yan Jien arrived at the company on time. He had printed out the layout plan and carefully checked it over to ensure there were no issues.
"I need to quickly schedule a meeting with the client to confirm the plan so we can start work early and avoid any complications later," Yan Jien thought to himself.
He had piles of orders that had been stacking up for nearly a month; if he didn't start working soon, he estimated he would be left with nothing to eat but air.
After completing the plan, Yan Jien loaded the black garbage bag into the car. For the past few days, he had been going out during the day to dispose of the carcasses of the ram rabbits in the wilderness, leaving them for wild animals to consume. Since it was his territory, he felt at ease and waited until the bodies started to smell before disposing of them. Today was no exception.
Yan Jien tossed the black garbage bag into the trunk and then started the car, leaving the parking lot. He did not notice a black SUV following him from a distance.
"Team Leader Li, where is he going?" Han Li asked.
"I don't know, let's follow him and find out," Li Yanqiu replied.
"This guy is so secretive; I wonder what he's up to," Han Li murmured.
"No matter what he's doing, as long as it relates to the Golden Eagle Disappearance Case, we need to investigate thoroughly," Li Yanqiu stated.
"Yeah," Han Li nodded in agreement.
The two of them followed along until they reached the bay area.
"Hey, why did he stop?" Han Li wondered.
"Could it be that he noticed us?" Li Yanqiu frowned.
"That's impossible; we've been following him from so far away, and he's not a cop. How could he possibly notice us?" Han Li replied.
"Maybe he stopped on purpose, waiting for us to come closer," Li Yanqiu speculated.
"Should we go over?" Han Li asked.
"Let's wait a bit," Li Yanqiu shook his head.
They waited in the car for ten minutes.
"He got out of the car," Han Li said.
"Hmm?" Li Yanqiu looked at Yan Jien.
He saw Yan Jien standing by the car, lighting a cigarette and smoking leisurely, showing no signs of leaving.
"What does this guy want?" Li Yanqiu wondered aloud.
"I'm going down to ask him," Han Li said, feeling impatient.
"Don't be impulsive; let's wait a little longer," Li Yanqiu stopped him.
The two continued to wait.
Five minutes passed again.
"This guy isn't messing with us, is he?" Han Li said, a bit irritated.
"I'll go ask him," Li Yanqiu replied, unable to hold back any longer.
"Alright," Han Li nodded.
The two got out of the car and walked towards Yan Jien.
"Hey, if it isn't Officer Li and Officer Han!" Yan Jien greeted them with a smile.
"Mr. Yan, hello," Li Yanqiu said with a slight nod.
"The two officers have been following me all the way; I wonder what the matter is?" Yan Jien asked.
"You... how did you know we were following you?" Han Li exclaimed in surprise.
"You two started following me from Xiufeng Road and continued all the way to the Bay Area. If you weren't following me, then please tell me, who were you following?" Yan Jien asked with a grin.
"You..." Han Li was at a loss for words.
"May I ask what brings Mr. Yan here?" Li Yanqiu inquired.
"My territory is here; I'm just doing a routine inspection. Is there a problem?" Yan Jien countered.
"No, no problem," Li Yanqiu shook his head.
"Since there's no problem, can I leave now?" Yan Jien asked.
"Yes, but I'd like to take a look at your trunk," Li Yanqiu said.
"My trunk? Why?" Yan Jien frowned.
"We suspect you may have harmed some pets and want to confirm," Li Yanqiu explained.
"I harmed some pets? Do you have any evidence?" Yan Jien's expression darkened.
"No, but we believe your suspicion is quite high," Li Yanqiu stated.
"Hah, what if I refuse?" Yan Jien sneered.
"If you refuse, we'll have to enforce it by force," Li Yanqiu replied.
"You are abusing your power!" Yan Jien shouted angrily.
