"By the way, I have a photo. Do you want to see it?" the caretaker suddenly said.
"What photo?" Li Yanqiu asked.
"It's a photo of a nest of dead mice all tangled together," the caretaker replied.
"Oh?" Li Yanqiu raised an eyebrow.
"Wait a moment, I'll go get it," the caretaker said as he turned to leave.
In a short while, he returned with a photo in hand.
Li Yanqiu took the photo and began to examine it closely.
In the picture lay more than a dozen mice, their tails all intertwined, and the bodies were dry.
"These mouse corpses look similar to those other mice," Li Yanqiu remarked, pointing at the dead mice in the photo.
"Yes, I was quite surprised at the time too," the caretaker nodded.
"Do you know what this phenomenon is?" Li Yanqiu asked.
"I heard people call it the Rodent King Phenomenon," the caretaker explained.
"Rodent King Phenomenon?" Li Yanqiu raised an eyebrow again.
"Yes, it's said that this phenomenon occurred several times in ancient Europe, each time accompanied by a plague," the caretaker continued.
"Is that so?" Li Yanqiu said in surprise.
"Mm-hmm, that photo is one I took at that time," the caretaker added.
"Can you send me that photo?" Li Yanqiu asked.
"Of course," the caretaker nodded.
He sent the photo to Li Yanqiu.
"Thank you," Li Yanqiu expressed his gratitude.
"You're welcome," the caretaker waved his hand dismissively.
"Then we'll be on our way," Li Yanqiu said.
"Okay, goodbye," the caretaker replied.
"Goodbye," Li Yanqiu waved as he left with Han Li.
"Do you think the theft of that Golden Eagle is related to this Rodent King Phenomenon?" Han Li suddenly asked.
"It might be related," Li Yanqiu nodded thoughtfully.
"What should we do next?" Han Li inquired.
"We wait," Li Yanqiu stated.
"Wait for what?" Han Li asked, puzzled.
"Wait for the results from the technical department," Li Yanqiu clarified.
"Got it," Han Li nodded in understanding.
The two returned to the security room and continued watching the surveillance footage.
"Hey, the Golden Eagle was taken away at three twenty in the morning, but why did it start struggling at three eleven?" Li Yanqiu suddenly said.
"Maybe it sensed danger?" Han Li speculated.
"But how could it sense danger? Isn't it just an ordinary animal?" Li Yanqiu questioned, puzzled.
"Well..." Han Li was at a loss for words.
"Could it be that it has some special ability?" Li Yanqiu thought to himself.
"This..." Han Li didn't know what to say.
Just then, the technical department staff arrived.
"You finally made it," Li Yanqiu greeted them.
"Yes, we will start investigating the scene right away," the lead technician said.
"Alright, thank you," Li Yanqiu nodded.
The technical team began examining the area where the wire mesh had been torn apart, carefully searching for clues.
"Have you found anything?" Li Yanqiu asked the lead man.
"Not yet," the man shook his head.
"Okay, then you all carry on," Li Yanqiu nodded again.
"You go contact other departments and see if you can find any clues from other sources," Li Yanqiu said to Han Li.
"Sure," Han Li nodded and turned to leave.
Li Yanqiu continued to watch the surveillance footage, hoping to find some useful information from it.
Yan Jien finished the 3D renderings and checked the time; it was already five forty. He saved his files and got up to head outside. He planned to buy some "prey" outside the company; otherwise, things could get out of control at night.
"Xiao Yan, are you off work?" Deng Kaiwen asked with a smile when he saw Yan Jien coming out.
"Yeah," Yan Jien nodded.
"Did you hear? A client came in this morning to cancel their order," Deng Kaiwen said.
"Oh really?" Yan Jien raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, but Director Feng didn't agree," Deng Kaiwen replied.
"Oh," Yan Jien responded indifferently. He wasn't interested in the client's cancellation; he just wanted to quickly buy his "prey."
"I think that client must have listened to Liu Yuming's words before deciding to cancel," Deng Kaiwen remarked.
"Liu Yuming?" Yan Jien raised an eyebrow again.
"Yes, I heard from someone in the marketing department that Liu Yuming has been spreading bad things about you," Deng Kaiwen said.
"I see," Yan Jien nodded.
"Don't worry, Xiao Yan; everyone in our design department supports you," Deng Kaiwen said, patting Yan Jien on the shoulder.
"Thank you, Brother Deng," Yan Jien said gratefully.
"You're welcome. I just can't stand that Liu Yuming," Deng Kaiwen waved his hand dismissively.
"Mm," Yan Jien nodded.
"I'm leaving now," Deng Kaiwen said, waving goodbye as he turned to leave.
Yan Jien continued walking out of the company.
"Master," at that moment, Tong Liya approached from behind.
"Is there something you need?" Yan Jien asked.
"What is your workout plan for today?" Tong Liya inquired.
"I have plans to eat out with a friend today, so I'm not going to the gym," Yan Jien replied.
"Oh," Tong Liya said, sounding a bit disappointed.
"If you don't have anything else, I'll be on my way," Yan Jien said.
"Okay, goodbye Master," Tong Liya waved her hand.
"Goodbye," Yan Jien waved back and turned to leave.
He walked out of the company gate and headed straight for the Wooden House Market.
Upon arriving at the market, he bought a male rabbit and then two pounds of pork belly.
"Wow, buying so much meat today!" his neighbor Yan Weila happened to run into him and greeted him with a smile.
"Yeah, we're having braised pork tonight," Yan Jien replied with a smile.
"You really know how to eat," Yan Weila laughed.
"Just okay," Yan Jien chuckled.
"Well, you get back to it; I won't disturb you any longer," Yan Weila waved and turned to leave.
Yan Jien carried the rabbit and pork belly back to his rental apartment.
He opened the bathroom door and tossed the rabbit inside.
Then he picked up a fruit knife, cut off a piece of pork belly, rinsed it with water, and put it in his mouth.
