Yan Jien sat on the sofa, his expression fluctuating between gloom and uncertainty.
A wave of hunger washed over him, making him feel uncomfortable all over.
"This can't go on. If I lose control again, it will be a problem," Yan Jien frowned.
Although he could still restrain himself for now, he couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't act against Amy and Clark if they returned.
"Click, click, click." Yan Jien gritted his teeth, trying hard not to lose control.
But the hunger was becoming more intense.
"Damn it," Yan Jien couldn't help but curse.
Just then, his phone rang.
Yan Jien picked up the phone and saw it was Deng Kaiwen calling.
"Hey, Old Deng," Yan Jien answered the call.
"Hey, Xiaoyan, what are you up to?" Deng Kaiwen asked.
"Nothing much, just hanging around," Yan Jien replied.
"Perfect timing, come drink with me," Deng Kaiwen said.
"I can't right now," Yan Jien responded.
"Come on, I've already told my friends," Deng Kaiwen insisted.
"Maybe next time," Yan Jien said before hanging up the phone.
"This little brat just hung up on me," Deng Kaiwen exclaimed with wide eyes.
"Hahaha, looks like your invitation was declined," a colleague nearby laughed.
"Hmph, that kid, just wait until I see him next time; I'll deal with him then," Deng Kaiwen snorted coldly.
On the other side, Yan Jien tossed his phone aside and took a deep breath.
"I can't keep going like this; I need to find something to eat," Yan Jien murmured to himself.
Though he was reluctant to admit it, he was indeed craving meat at that moment.
With that thought in mind, Yan Jien got up and walked towards the door.
It was already eight in the evening, and the sky had turned completely dark.
Yan Jien didn't take a taxi but chose to walk to the nearby market instead.
"I hope I can still buy some live poultry," Yan Jien thought to himself.
However, he was disappointed.
Most of the stalls in the market were closed, and the few remaining ones had no live birds available.
"It looks like I'll have to eat at a restaurant," Yan Jien sighed helplessly.
With that thought in mind, he turned around and headed towards the food street.
Yan Jien arrived at a steakhouse he often visited; the meat there was quite good, and he used to come here frequently.
"Sir, how many people?" the waiter approached him with a smile.
"One," Yan Jien replied.
"Alright, please follow me." The waiter led Yan Jien to an empty seat.
"What would you like to eat?" the waiter asked.
"I'll have one of each meat dish you have here," Yan Jien replied.
"Uh?" The waiter was taken aback.
"Is there a problem?" Yan Jien asked.
"No, please wait a moment," the waiter shook his head and then turned to leave.
Half an hour later, Yan Jien patted his stomach and left the steakhouse feeling satisfied. Although he was only half full, his hunger had finally subsided.
"Where to next?" Yan Jien pondered while standing on the curb.
Based on his experiences over the past two days, Yan Jien realized that the time he was most likely to lose control was between seven and eleven in the evening. During this period, it was best for him to avoid contact with others.
"Oh right." A sudden thought struck Yan Jien.
"West Lake Park." he murmured.
West Lake Park wasn't far from here and had many quiet spots.
With that in mind, Yan Jien hailed a taxi and headed straight for West Lake Park.
Fifteen minutes later, Yan Jien got out of the car and walked towards West Lake Park.
It was September, and the weather was still hot, so there were quite a few people in the park.
Yan Jien strolled slowly along the path by the lake.
Along the way, he encountered many couples.
He found a bench to sit on and took out his phone to play with it.
However, his attention remained focused on the sounds around him.
With his current hearing ability, even if he didn't want to listen, those sounds continuously made their way into his ears.
"Hmm?" Yan Jien's ears perked up slightly.
He heard a strange sound.
"Wow, this is exciting."
"Come on, faster."
"Oh oh oh."
This was...
Yan Jien's expression suddenly became peculiar.
He didn't expect to encounter such a situation.
Following the sound, Yan Jien looked over.
In the bushes ahead, he saw two figures entangled together.
Although they were separated by some shrubs, Yan Jien could still clearly see their appearance.
It was a young couple who seemed completely oblivious to Yan Jien's presence.
"This..." Yan Jien's mouth twitched slightly. He never expected that simply looking for a quiet place to stay would lead to such an incident. However, he didn't dwell on it. Such things had become quite common in this era. So, Yan Jien withdrew his gaze and continued to look down at his phone.
He stayed until eleven o'clock at night, when his appetite finally faded. "I should head back," Yan Jien said as he stood up and stretched. By this time, there were significantly fewer people in the park.
As Yan Jien retraced his steps, he suddenly stopped in front of an unattended self-service adult store. "What is this?" Yan Jien's eyes widened. There, at the entrance of the store, lay a goat. Its belly was cut open, and its entrails were scattered on the ground; it appeared to be dead.
"Is that really a goat?" Yan Jien's breathing quickened. He felt the hunger he had just suppressed surge back up again. "No, I need to get out of here quickly," Yan Jien gritted his teeth and turned to leave.
However, after taking just two steps, he stopped again. "What is that?" Yan Jien stared at the goat's corpse, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. Upon closer inspection, he noticed something black tied to the goat's back.
"A miniature camera?" Yan Jien's pupils constricted. The camera was aimed directly at him, clearly recording him. "Who would install a camera here?" Yan Jien furrowed his brow tightly. Could it be that someone wanted to monitor him?
Thinking of this, Yan Jien's expression turned extremely grim.
