Yan Jien was walking down the street when he suddenly caught a familiar scent. Turning around, he was surprised to find Tong Liya following closely behind him.
"Liya, didn't you take a leave of absence?" Yan Jien asked in astonishment.
"I just took the leave last night and came back today," Tong Liya replied, blinking her eyes.
"Oh," Yan Jien nodded lightly.
"Master, why do I feel like you're deliberately avoiding me?" Tong Liya wrinkled her nose.
"Cough, cough, that's not the case. I just..." Yan Jien cleared his throat twice, "I just didn't sleep well last night."
"Is that so?" Tong Liya looked at Yan Jien suspiciously.
"Of course! If you don't believe me, you can ask Amy," Yan Jien quickly said.
"Alright, I believe you," Tong Liya smiled.
The two chatted as they walked into the company.
At this time, the office was already filled with people who were busy at work.
"Mr. Yan, you're here."
"Good morning, Mr. Yan."
Everyone greeted Yan Jien warmly.
"Hello everyone," Yan Jien responded with a smile.
"Mr. Yan, your skin seems to have improved!" a female colleague suddenly exclaimed in surprise.
"Wow, really?" another female colleague leaned in closer to examine Yan Jien carefully.
"It really has! Mr. Yan's skin looks better—so fair and tender."
"Mr. Yan, did you use some high-end skincare products?"
"Mr. Yan, please teach us too!"
Everyone chimed in excitedly.
"Uh..." Yan Jien was taken aback for a moment before smiling and saying, "It's nothing; I just used a beauty secret."
"What secret?" everyone asked curiously.
"This..." Yan Jien hesitated for a moment.
He doesn't have any beauty secrets; he's just making things up.
"Yan Jien, just tell us," a female colleague pleaded.
"Yeah, Yan Jien, we promise not to share," another female colleague chimed in.
"This secret recipe was something I bought from an old Chinese medicine doctor; it's said to be a family heirloom," Yan Jien fabricated a reason. "You know, these things are usually not meant to be shared."
"Oh, I see," everyone sighed in disappointment.
"However, if you really want to try it, I can ask for you," Yan Jien said.
"That would be great, thank you, Yan Jien," everyone replied happily.
"You're welcome; now go back to work," Yan Jien waved his hand.
Everyone dispersed.
"Sigh, I guess I need to be more careful from now on," Yan Jien thought to himself.
His physical changes were too significant and would definitely attract attention; if this continued, it wouldn't be long before everyone in the company knew about his abnormalities.
"I must find out what exactly is happening to my body as soon as possible," Yan Jien thought.
"Yan Jien." Just then, Deng Kaiwen walked over.
"What's up?" Yan Jien asked.
"Come with me," Deng Kaiwen said, pulling Yan Jien into the stairwell.
"What’s going on?" Yan Jien asked in confusion.
"What’s going on between you and Liya?" Deng Kaiwen whispered.
"What do you mean?" Yan Jien was taken aback.
"Don't play dumb; you know what I'm talking about," Deng Kaiwen rolled his eyes.
"Ahem, well..." Yan Jien awkwardly cleared his throat, "You know I was diagnosed with bone cancer before, so..."
"No way! You turned down Liya because of that?" Deng Kaiwen's eyes widened.
"Not exactly turned down; I just didn't want to hold her back," Yan Jien sighed.
"You..." Deng Kaiwen pointed at Yan Jien, unable to find words for a moment.
"Forget it; you wouldn't understand," Yan Jien patted Deng Kaiwen's shoulder.
"I don't understand?" Deng Kaiwen was so angry he almost jumped up. "Let me tell you, I understand it better than you do."
"You don't know anything," Yan Jien scoffed.
"I..." Deng Kaiwen was about to retort when he suddenly thought of something. "Wait, what do you mean by saying you don't want to hold Liya back?"
"Sigh." Yan Jien sighed.
He hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to tell Deng Kaiwen about his bone cancer diagnosis.
"No way, is that true?" Deng Kaiwen asked in shock.
"Do you think I would joke about something like this?" Yan Jien said with a bitter smile.
"So... what are you going to do now?" Deng Kaiwen asked worriedly.
"What else can I do? I can only start treatment," Yan Jien shook his head.
"Seriously, how can you still dare to date Liya?" Deng Kaiwen's eyes widened.
"I'm not dating her; I'm just keeping my distance for now," Yan Jien explained.
"You..." Deng Kaiwen pointed at Yan Jien, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Alright, just forget about this matter," Yan Jien waved his hand dismissively.
"Sigh." Deng Kaiwen sighed. "By the way, my birthday is in a couple of days. I'm planning to throw a party, so make sure to come."
"What does your birthday have to do with me?" Yan Jien asked in confusion.
"Of course, I have something to ask you," Deng Kaiwen grinned.
"What is it?" Yan Jien frowned.
"I have a friend who's quite pretty and has a good personality," Deng Kaiwen said with a smile. "I think you two should meet."
"I..." Yan Jien opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
"It's settled then." Deng Kaiwen patted Yan Jien on the shoulder. "Saturday night at seven, don't forget."
With that, Deng Kaiwen turned and left the stairwell.
"This bastard," Yan Jien shook his head helplessly.
However, Deng Kaiwen's words reminded him that he should start looking for emotional fulfillment again.
