Li Yang immediately shot back: "What do you mean? Do you want us to do the work while you freeload on the grades?"
"I didn't say that. I'm just giving you a heads-up. If you're worried, talk to the teacher about switching groups," Xiao Bailiang replied.
Zhou Qi also wouldn't let him off easily and retorted: "First, if you want to talk to the teacher, you can do it yourself; second, other groups have already started working; who can switch now? Third, this group project affects everyone's grades—don't you have any sense of responsibility?"
Zhou Qi had just been awarded the Best Debater of the school debate team and loved to "argue" with others.
In just half an hour, the screen was filled with messages of him and Xiao Bailiang going back and forth.
Until An Zhizhi sent a message: "I will stay up late tonight to finish it; it won't delay the report."
No one disagreed, and the matter passed just like that.
The next morning at five o'clock, An Zhizhi posted her part of the assignment with Xiao Bailiang in the group.
Although time was tight, she did not cut corners; all the necessary theoretical basis and references were included.
After I replied with an "ok" emoji, Xiao Bailiang left the group with An Zhizhi.
Although An Zhizhi was not foolish, I always worried that Xiao Bailiang might do something outrageous for money.
So I kept a close watch on any news regarding Xiao Bailiang and An Zhizhi's hiking using a secondary account.
Fortunately, half a month later, Xiao Bailiang and An Zhizhi returned safely.
Meanwhile, our group assignment received the highest score.
Li Yang excitedly informed Xiao Bailiang of this good news.
But he scoffed disdainfully:
"Do you think I care about grades? I'm already above everyone else, unlike you small-town test-takers who are obsessed with scores."
"What a joke. If students think grades don't matter, then why are you going to college?"
Xiao Bailiang scoffed disdainfully and then pulled out a luxury watch from his bag to show off in front of Li Yang and Zhou Qi.
"This is the latest model my girlfriend bought for me. This is what really matters, got it?"
But the next second, Li Yang and Zhou Qi took out two identical watches from their drawers.
"Oh, you mean this? It was released last week."
"Gu Tianjun gave us both one ages ago. We're already tired of wearing them; only you still treat it like a treasure."
This made Xiao Bailiang's face turn red with anger, and he started shouting again, "You two poor guys are just relying on your roommate; what are you acting tough for?"
"Hey, at least we don't rely on a rich girlfriend to put on airs. We won't have to borrow money to show off."
Xiao Bailiang was so furious that he kicked over a chair and immediately grabbed his things to leave.
As usual, whenever we exposed his facade or he failed to show off, he would storm out in anger.
