I stared at him in disbelief, but he seemed unfazed.
The announcement echoed again: "Passengers taking the bus, please have your tickets ready for boarding."
I glanced at him with a pale face and dragged my suitcase toward the ticketing area.
But he hugged me once more.
I struggled as he held me tightly and whispered in my ear, "Sister, I love you."
My body stiffened, and I pushed him away with all my might.
He suddenly laughed and said, "Sister, just go."
I looked at him, and he had a confident expression. It was as if he knew I would definitely stay. I dragged my suitcase forward without looking back. He heard the announcement urging again: "Please Ms. Chen Qian, proceed to the ticket gate as our vehicle is about to depart..." He looked at me with determination in his eyes. I closed my eyes briefly and continued walking forward. The announcement continued: "Please Ms. Chen Qian, proceed to the ticket gate..."
I reached the ticket gate, took out my ID, and handed it to the ticket inspector. The inspector glanced at my ID, then at me, and returned it saying, "Hurry and board the bus; it’s about to leave." I reached the bus door and boarded. There weren’t many people on the bus, so I found a window seat and sat down. The bus started moving slowly out of the station. I leaned back against the seat and closed my eyes. When I woke up, the bus was almost at G City. We had half an hour left until we arrived. I rubbed my temples and sat up straight.
Outside the window, the mountains stretched endlessly, lush and green. The car was very quiet, with the passengers resting with their eyes closed. I was bored and took out my phone to scroll through my social media feed. Suddenly, I saw a post from Chen Shan: "When you leave, will you look back?" My heart skipped a beat; what did he mean by that? I continued scrolling, and he posted again: "Will you look back?" I frowned; what was going on with him?
After hesitating for a moment, I clicked on his profile picture and sent him a message: "Are you okay?" He didn’t reply. My worry grew, so I sent another message: "Chen Shan, are you okay?" Still no response. I hesitated for a long time before sending another message: "Are you okay?" He still didn’t reply.
I sighed, put my phone away, and closed my eyes to rest again. Soon, the car arrived at the station. I got off and walked toward the exit. As soon as I stepped out, I saw Chen Shan standing not far away, looking at me with a sorrowful expression. I was startled and quickly walked up to him: "Why are you here?"
