The stranger's name was Sun Ming.
At first, he casually responded to Xin Ping with a few words. Later, seeing how pitiful she was, he began to feel sorry for her. He asked, "Why don't you divorce your husband if he treats you like this?"
Xin Ping smiled bitterly and replied, "Where would I go after the divorce?"
Sun Ming fell silent. After a while, he sent her a message: "If you don't mind, you can come find me. I'll take care of you."
Xin Ping felt a stir in her heart. She wasn't unaware of the many online scammers; she wasn't naive enough to believe everything others said. She rationally told herself that Sun Ming was just trying to cheer her up. However, she couldn't help but feel tempted. After all, it was the first time a man had said such things to her.
Xiao Tang had never said anything like that. He even thought it was justified to hit Xin Ping. Her heart began to waver. She didn't know whether to trust Sun Ming.
Sun Ming seemed to sense her hesitation and didn't push her. He simply continued to message Xin Ping every day, chatting with her and sharing his life. Gradually, Xin Ping became more familiar with him.
One day, Sun Ming suddenly suggested, "Let's video chat."
After hesitating for a moment, Xin Ping agreed. In the video, Sun Ming looked handsome, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, and a strong build. He smiled and asked Xin Ping, "So, what do you think? I'm not ugly, right?"
Xin Ping laughed and replied, "Aren't you afraid I'm an ugly monster?"
Sun Ming confidently said, "Not afraid at all. Even if you were an ugly monster, I'd accept it."
"After all, I was the one who said I wanted to meet you first."
Xin Ping felt warmth in her heart. It was the first time she had heard a man say he didn't care about her appearance. Xiao Tang had never said anything like that. When he was drunk, he would only point at Xin Ping and scold her: "How did I end up marrying such an ugly woman? I must have been blind!"
Xin Ping's heart was filled with bitterness and sorrow.
She thought, if only she had met Sun Ming a little earlier. Even if it was just to know him sooner, that would be enough.
Sun Ming said, "I want to see you."
Xin Ping hesitated for a few seconds before finally agreeing. "Okay, I'll come find you."
"Let's meet at a café in the city."
Sun Ming readily agreed.
They set a time and place for their first meeting. That day, Sun Ming dressed up intentionally, wearing a black trench coat and sunglasses, looking very handsome.
As soon as they met, he smiled and said, "Xin Ping, you look much better than in the video."
Xin Ping felt a bit shy and replied, "You look handsome too."
Sun Ming had a cheerful personality and was very talkative. He chatted with Xin Ping about everything under the sun, bursting into laughter from time to time.
Xin Ping noticed that he looked great when he laughed, his white teeth shining brightly.
She gave him a mouse as a gift. She remembered he had mentioned wanting to change his mouse.
Sun Ming was pleasantly surprised: "How did you know I wanted this mouse?"
Xin Ping smiled and said, "I just guessed."
Sun Ming was very happy: "I really like it."
A sense of satisfaction rose in Xin Ping's heart. This was a feeling she had never experienced when she was with Xiao Tang.
Xiao Tang would always criticize her; no matter what she did, she could never gain his approval. But Sun Ming would loudly tell her, "You're great, I really like you."
During their second meeting, Sun Ming gave her a scarf. The scarf was knitted by Sun Ming himself.
Xin Ping could tell that his skills were quite average and the scarf didn't look very good.
Holding the scarf, she couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time: "What made you think of knitting me a scarf?"
Sun Ming scratched his head: "I saw that the weather got cold and worried you might freeze."
"My skills aren't very good; I hope you don't mind."
A warm feeling surged in Xin Ping's heart. She looked at Sun Ming and suddenly felt her face flush and her heart race. She realized that she might really have developed feelings for him. Suddenly, she felt a bit scared.
She had only met Sun Ming twice, and they didn't know each other well. She was afraid that the greater her expectations, the greater her disappointment would be. However, she couldn't help wanting to get closer to him. She wanted to know if Sun Ming really liked her and if he truly didn't mind her. She wondered if Sun Ming would find her ugly.
Sun Ming seemed to sense her thoughts. He looked at her seriously and said, "Xin Ping, I really like you."
"I know what you're worried about; I don't care about your appearance."
"I like you for who you are."
Xin Ping's heart completely melted. She thought that if she could marry Sun Ming in this lifetime, she would cherish him dearly. She was willing to do anything for him.
Suddenly, Sun Ming took her hand and said, "Xin Ping, trust me. I will make you happy."
Xin Ping nodded gently. She was willing to believe him.
Sun Ming noticed the scars on her wrist, and his expression darkened immediately. "Did he hit you?"
Xin Ping lowered her head, not wanting him to see her embarrassment.
Sun Ming became furious and exclaimed, "That bastard dared to hit you!"
"Xin Ping, don't be afraid; I will help you find the best divorce lawyer."
"I will make him pay!"
Xin Ping felt a warmth in her heart. She thought that perhaps she could really escape Xiao Tang and that dark marriage.
