The Zombie Horde continued to charge forward mindlessly, completely unaware of the strength of the Defender and the Spirit Corps Legion. Titan Aibo stood at the forefront, wielding his iron anchor like an ancient fire chariot, sweeping through the masses.
Under Aibo's leadership, the Defender and Spirit Corps Legion slowly advanced deeper into the Zombie Horde. Fierce Eagle, Blue Face Hero, and Xiao Kuang surrounded Xu Yicheng, with Aibo leading the way. They moved like a human war machine, crushing zombies beneath them.
"I feel like we're on a pilgrimage to the West!" Xiao Kuang exclaimed as he swung a chain, sending seven or eight zombies flying. "We're all disciples of Dr. Xu, hahaha..."
"Well, this isn't just a mere eighty-one trials," Fierce Eagle said as his battle sword cleaved through approaching zombies. The orange glow of his visor flashed as it caught the light from the severed shoulders of a zombie.
Nars couldn't understand what they were saying, but Liu Xuan did. Blue Face Hero tried to find a moment to respond amidst the chaos, but for some reason, the zombies around him seemed to be the most densely packed.
Fortunately, Blue Face Hero was empowered by Tianchuang Gloves, and powerful waves of Cosmic Energy surged from his fists as he struck at the Zombie Horde. The zombies near him disintegrated instantly.
"Down goes three!" Xiao Kuang shouted as he stomped on a zombie's head and then knocked another one aside with a swift strike before shooting it in the neck.
Xiao Kuang had become so frenzied in his attacks that he shot without any strategy; any zombie that approached was met with gunfire.
In his excitement, Xiao Kuang overlooked what was happening behind him. One zombie saw him bend down and seized the opportunity to lunge at Xu Yicheng!
"Ah—" Xu Yicheng screamed in terror, his eyes wide with fear at the sight of the menacing zombie.
The Defenders were too focused on the zombies in front of them; it was too late to turn back and protect Xu Yicheng.
"Dr. Xu!" Xiao Kuang quickly turned around, abandoning his own fight against the nearby zombies to rush back.
However, what he saw froze him in place for a moment. Xu Yicheng had been knocked to the ground but had managed to shove his nail gun into the zombie's mouth!
The zombie bit down in confusion—what was this hard thing?
As it pondered this, Xu Yicheng kicked it aside and rolled over to where Fierce Eagle was coming to help. Xiao Kuang swiftly stabbed his gun into the neck of the zombie that had attacked Xu Yicheng.
"I’m out of weapons!" Xu Yicheng exclaimed.
Fierce Eagle blasted away a nearby zombie and glanced at his big companion. He wrapped his arms around Xu Yicheng and activated his mechanical wings, lifting both of them up to Aibo's shoulder.
"Big Guy, Dr. Xu is in your care!" Fierce Eagle shouted as Xu Yicheng carefully released his grip from Fierce Eagle's armored waist and stepped into Aibo's outstretched palm.
With two impressive chain strikes, several zombies before them were sliced in half instantly.
"Don’t believe me? Hmph," Xiao Kuang muttered in frustration when he suddenly realized he had created an opening in the horde.
Good news! No more zombies surged forward to block their path!
"Hey, comrades!"
The Defenders looked over at George, who was holding a zombie's head aloft. The creature struggled for a moment before its head crumpled like a crushed bottle in George's grip, going limp.
"It looks like we have a breakthrough here," George pointed toward the opening created by the Spirit Corps' relentless assault.
Xiao Kuang unlocked his armor and called out to George, "I have one here too!"
From above, it appeared that only Aibo and Blue Face Hero faced an ongoing influx of zombies; those on either flank were becoming increasingly sparse.
Fierce Eagle glanced at both sides and said, "Shift our focus toward the Spirit Corps; we have more people over there!"
Aibo and Blue Face Hero fought their way closer to the Spirit Corps Legion, while Xiao Kuang stood by the trash can, his face marked with annoyance.
"Okay, following orders," Xiao Kuang shrugged, rolling his eyes as he pinned a zombie that had approached him seeking exorcism to the ground.
"Hey, hey... this is... you all..."
A series of crackling sounds filled the channel as an urgent voice broke through intermittently.
Hearing Qin Weishan's voice, Fierce Eagle felt a wave of relief wash over him.
"This is Qin Weishan and Jiao An calling. Please respond if you receive."
"We're glad to hear you're safe, friends. This is Nars and Liu Xuan responding."
"Sister Jiao An, it's good to know you're alright! This is Lu Sha responding."
"I'm alive, so they must be fine too. Don't worry. This is Xu Yicheng responding."
A laser shot out, knocking several zombies down in front of Blue Face Hero. He looked up at the sky, and both he and Fierce Eagle gave each other a thumbs-up simultaneously.
"The mountains and rivers are safe, and we are well. Guardians of the city, this is the Miracle Channel; welcome everyone to listen in. This is Captain An Xiaotian responding."
With a loud crash, an iron anchor fell into the Zombie Horde, causing Aibo to stop in his tracks and exchange a glance with Xu Yicheng in his palm.
Jiao An lowered her gun and gazed towards the flames on the other side of the city alongside Qin Weishan.
Concerned and yearning for answers, the bloodshed of the battlefield could never erase the warmth of humanity.
George looked up at Fierce Eagle circling above with a loudspeaker; a long-lost sunlight seemed to seep into him on this cold snowy night, warming not only himself but also all those from Spirit Corps who had once laughed on this land.
"Is this the charm of our captain..." George mused with a slight smile as he thought of Brother Miao from their Spirit Corps Family.
At that moment, a coordinate marker appeared on Jiao An's helmet visor. It was sent by Captain An.
"Sister Jiao An, Weishan, I need you to complete a task," Fierce Eagle hovered above the Zombie Horde. "The situation was not good earlier; I couldn't send you the time until now. There’s a heat source at that coordinate marker. I suspect someone hasn't evacuated yet; the military is still at the city's edge helping citizens board planes..."
"There are forty-seven minutes left until complete evacuation; it's up to you now."
"Leave it to us!" Qin Weishan patted his armored chest and glanced at Jiao An's holographic display before grabbing her hand and running toward that direction.
"Hey, let go! Did I ask you to pull me along?!"
But Jiao An didn’t try to break free. She watched Qin Weishan's back as he ran ahead, imagining how silly he must look with that goofy grin on his face.
Above the city,
Boom!
A gray-white beam pushed Zombie King back forcefully; although Zombie King raised his Chaos Barrier to block the damage, he could not withstand the immense recoil.
"This is Armed Helicopter - zero zero one! We are about to collide with an unidentified creature!"
An armed helicopter circled around the center of collision between two gray-white beams and a black beam, but the pilot never expected that this thing would be pushed right in front of him.
Through the dark lens of the pilot's goggles, the Zombie King was propelled forward by a beam of white light, rushing straight at him. At that moment, all the pilot could think about was why he wasn't flying a fighter jet instead—at least he could have ejected in an emergency.
"Ahh—"
The Zombie King gritted his teeth, bracing himself against the shockwave. Finally, he gathered enough energy and, in the last second before colliding with the helicopter, swung his hand downward, using the force to redirect the impact—
The shockwave was hurled toward the ground, exploding into a gap within the Soulless Army commanded by the Zombie Queen.
The Zombie King quickly turned to apologize to the pilot in the cockpit. The pilot nodded and waved for the helicopter to leave immediately. However, before he could finish his gesture, the helicopter had already fled in fear of the Zombie King's terrifying visage.
With a bitter smile, the Zombie King turned his head back just in time to be hit by another shockwave. He swiftly dodged it and, moving at near-light speed, circled around the Zombie Queen's attack to charge at her—
"Boom—"
Another explosion echoed from above. The Blue Face Hero looked up to see a black-and-white shockwave erupting in the snowy night, gradually fading into darkness.
"Can we help?" Fierce Eagle asked him.
"Maybe," Blue Face Hero replied. "But first, let's deal with these."
Fierce Eagle set up the Vulcan machine gun to clear a path for Aibo, with armor gleaming in the flames. He then asked, "Didn't you say Miao Chengmin is incredibly strong?"
"That’s true."
A powerful wave of Cosmic Energy swept through the Zombie Horde before Blue Face Hero. He flexed his slightly sore wrist and said, "This time I turned off my tactical goggles in time. I didn’t see specific values, but I believe it’s similar to the energy that erupted from the Chaos Crystals last time."
"If I’m not mistaken…"
Xiao Kuang glanced sideways at Blue Face Hero.
"The Chaos Crystals have fused into Miao Chengmin’s body to repair him. Don’t be fooled by how he seems evenly matched with that Spirit Corps; Miao Chengmin is afraid to unleash all his energy. Do you understand? If Miao Chengmin were to release all of the Chaos Crystals' power, everything here—including us—would be reduced to rubble."
As Black Lightning's fist struck toward the Zombie Queen, the Zombie King still underestimated his opponent. The Zombie Queen didn’t even flinch; she simply grasped his fist with one hand.
"It seems we haven't been apart for long," she said, staring into the burning eyes of the Zombie King. "You've improved quite a bit, Brother Miao?"
"You'd better shut up," he replied, pushing against her palm as it neared his face.
A flicker of panic crossed the Zombie Queen's face.
"Why do I feel so powerless?" The more she thought about it, the more frightened she became.
"Quickly assess him! Without Miao Chengmin, those humans are nothing to fear!"
Suddenly, with her other hand, the Zombie Queen struck out at the Zombie King.
The blow didn’t inflict much damage but disrupted his focus.
Thinking she was shifting her offensive strategy, he instinctively withdrew his fist. This played right into her hands. She immediately used her shoulder to shove him away and created distance before unleashing a gray-white beam that accurately struck him down.
The Zombie King lacked Blue Face Hero's combat experience; caught off guard by this attack, he could only let himself be pushed to the ground. But the Zombie Queen did not relent; instead, the beam grew thicker!
As he passed through one high-rise after another, flames blazed along the path of the Zombie King being repelled. The Zombie King could clearly feel his body becoming thinner and thinner... Even though the entire Chaos Crystals within him were trying to repair him, it was impossible to recover under such intense exposure.
"I'm going all out!"
Gradually regaining his senses, the Zombie King extended his palm, summoning dark chaos. However, under the fierce impact, the energy in his hand dissipated like a flame extinguished by the wind.
The Zombie King steadied himself, floating in the air against the tremendous recoil.
"You are opposing the gods of the universe, Virgil."
After all, possessing the power of the entire Chaos Crystals, the Zombie King's hand braced against the shockwave, but the Chaos Sphere in his hand was growing larger and larger.
"Hmm?"
The Zombie Queen gazed at the Zombie King, who had penetrated through more than ten high-rises and was still hovering there, her eyes involuntarily widening.
The grayish-white beams beside her were split apart by the Zombie King's Chaos Sphere, shooting off in all directions—downward, upward, and toward the buildings.
"Ah—"
Ming Juan and the man in black had just looked up to see what was happening in the sky when a thin beam was shot down, slicing a nearby van into four or five pieces.
Startled into another scream, Ming Juan was quickly pulled into a nearby small shop by the man. He looked at Ming Juan, who was covering her ears, and without hesitation smashed the glass door at the entrance with his gunstock, dragging her inside.
"Stop screaming! There are zombies wandering around!" The man shook the still-frightened Ming Juan, hoping she would calm down quickly.
Ming Juan was either nodding or trembling; her head shook continuously as she stared at the Zombie King in the sky outside the glass.
Suddenly! A thunderbolt struck at Ming Juan's heart, memories flooding through her body and boiling within her.
"What’s wrong?" The man pulled her, trying to get Ming Juan to go further into the shop. But when he saw a glowing eye on Ming Juan's forehead, he stepped back several paces in fright, his left hand unconsciously resting on his gun's safety.
Ming Juan seemed to be in a trance; her eyes didn't blink as she pressed against the window, her furrowed brow filled with surprise, fear, sadness, and questions.
Ming Juan's Soul-Gazing Eye had already revealed the answer to her.
"Miao Miao..."
The Zombie King seemed to have heard something as he looked down with concern.
"Wow..."
"Oh no!" The man suddenly snapped back to reality and glanced toward the burning van behind him—
Seven zombies had already come running at their sound and were heading straight for Ming Juan, who lay unresponsive against the window!
