When I received the family medical examination report from the hospital, I couldn't help but feel at a loss. 0

My mother-in-law's report clearly stated "Early Stage Liver Cancer." 0

"The recommendation is to conduct further tests," the doctor said. 0

Further tests would likely cost a fortune. Even selling our house wouldn't be enough. But if we didn't treat it, Wu De would definitely not agree. I was at a loss for what to do. 0

My phone vibrated. 0

Wu De sent a message: "Honey, don't be afraid. I will get through this tough time with you." 0

"Just go home first, don't rush into any decisions." 0

My mother-in-law also called: "Cao'er, even if it's a serious illness, don't rush to spend that unnecessary money. Come home quickly, and we can discuss it." 0

I felt cold all over and looked around in confusion. 0

It was my mother-in-law who had liver cancer, so why did it feel like I was the one with cancer based on what they were saying? 0

In the stairwell, I found a corner where no one was around, trying to calm myself down. 0

After wandering around, I somehow ended up on the 16th floor. 0

This was the hospital's international department, where affluent expectant mothers stayed. 0

There weren't many people; it was quiet. 0

A pregnant woman walked back and forth in the hallway, muttering, "I told her not to buy insurance, but she wouldn't listen." 0

I couldn't hear what the person on the other end of the line said. 0

Her tone became spoiled: "I'm going for my prenatal checkup, and you won't come to accompany me. Wu De, does having a son mean you won't care about me anymore?" 0

Hearing the name "Wu De," I suddenly stopped in my tracks. 0

Wu De's voice came through the receiver: "Of course not! Our son is only a few months old; how could I possibly not care about you?" 0

"I can't just ignore her, my wife has Liver Cancer," he said. 0

My head was buzzing, and my legs felt weak; I could barely stand. I struggled to hold my breath and continued to listen. 0

The pregnant woman sounded displeased: "If she has Liver Cancer, why don't you just divorce her? You're so good to her, but even if she dies, she won't be able to repay your kindness." 0

Wu De sighed, "Honey, do you think I don't want to? But it has to be done slowly. You don't know, she bought a high-value insurance policy; if she dies, we could get millions in compensation. Our son would become a rich second generation." 0

The pregnant woman's voice rose a few notches: "Then why aren't you rushing to treat her?" 0

Wu De chuckled lightly, "If I treat her, how can we get the compensation?" 0

Mistress pouted with her big belly, playfully complaining: "Wu De, what if my body changes after I give birth?" 0

Wu De reassured her, "Don't worry, that won't happen. Even if it does, I won't mind." 0

Mistress asked again, "What if I get Liver Cancer?" 0

Wu De laughed happily: "Don't say that; only someone like my wife gets Liver Cancer. If my wife dies, then I can marry you." 0

Mistress pouted: "What if your wife doesn't die?" 0

Wu De smiled: "She won't last much longer." 0

With certainty in his tone, Wu De added, "Because I won't spend money on her treatment." 0

I gripped my phone tightly, my hands and feet cold as fear and shock coursed through me. 0

So it turns out that in their eyes, I was just a tool for making money. 0

I had no idea how I made it home. As soon as I entered the hallway, a strong smell of chili hit me; the spiciness was overwhelming. 0

The air was thick with this pungent odor. I forced myself to push open the door, only to be startled by the scene before me. 0

The house was filled with smoke, as if it were on fire. A hunched figure emerged from the haze, looking like a ghost revealing itself. 0

A wave of white smoke rushed toward me, and I started coughing violently. 0
