Room 1101, Unit 3, Building 1. These numbers seemed etched in Shen Jie's mind as he led his team back into Qingtong Community. The first building on the right after entering was it; Unit 3 was on the outer side. The team had carefully checked around the residential building—Units 1, 2, and 3 were part of the same structure, and there was only one entrance through the unit door. 0

The group stood under the protruding half-meter-wide eaves outside the unit door. “Captain, there’s surveillance!” Shi Ya pointed to the spherical camera above. “The field of view should be quite large.” 0

Shen Jie gazed into the dimly lit interior of the building, where the motion-activated lights had not turned on, lost in thought. “Shi Ya, go to the 11th floor and check if there are any external cameras installed at the door of Room 1102 across from you.” 0

“Understood!” 0

Turning to the property management office, they pulled up the footage from June 22nd when Du Zao entered the unit door at 22:58. They played it at eight times speed until June 23rd at 06:39, when Du Zao, yawning, exited the unit door and rode a bicycle parked next to a ginkgo tree toward the community gate. 0

While reviewing the surveillance footage, Shi Ya hurried over and whispered to Shen Jie, “Captain, there are no cameras installed at the door of Room 1102.” 0

It seemed that Du Zao had a solid alibi. 0

Investigating a person's social connections was not something that could be accomplished overnight; everyone was putting in their utmost effort and preparing for a long battle. However, the peculiarity of this case lay in how surprises often emerged from unexpected angles, guiding you onto entirely new paths. 0

At 23:35, after a long day, Shen Jie tiptoed into the guest bedroom with a summer quilt. After tidying up briefly, he flopped onto the bed. Great, he accidentally hit his phone's ringtone while doing so. His back ached as he propped himself up to see who was calling—Xu. 0

“Captain Shen, we’ve found another body. This situation is even more complicated. The reason I’m contacting you is that there’s an A4 paper taped above the freezer where the body is hidden, printed in ‘official script’ with the name ‘Tang Wenshan’. I heard Xiao Ye mention this name hurriedly over the phone. If I remember correctly, this body is related to your case?” 0

Shen Jie, now barefoot, stood up abruptly. “What kind of body? What’s the exact address?” 0

“Room 2131 in the basement of Building 21 in Canyang Community. It’s a female corpse; it looks like she’s been frozen in that freezer for quite some time.” 0

“Got it! I’ll be there right away!” 0

As Shen Jie opened the door and rushed toward the entrance hall, he messaged his team, “Everyone get up! Gather at the entrance of Canyang Community!” He changed his shoes and took off his coat before slamming shut the security door. 0

Zeng Rou gently opened the master bedroom door and peeked out while holding onto the door frame. She saw a decorative tassel with a ‘Fu’ character swaying silently behind the security door and sighed. Just as she was about to turn back inside, her throat made a loud noise followed by an earth-shattering cough that left her spitting blood all over her front. 0

Half an hour earlier, at exactly 23:00, the 110 emergency call center received a strange report: “There’s a corpse stored in Room 2131 of Building 21 in Canyang Community. She’s been dead for 13 years and has been waiting for someone to come get her. You need to hurry; she’s very cold and crying sadly.” 0

After pondering for a moment, the dispatcher decided to send officers from Jigong Road Substation to verify based on jurisdiction. To their surprise, they indeed discovered a female corpse! The on-duty officer quickly called Xu Liang. Earlier that day, while mediating a dispute, Xu Liang had accidentally twisted his ankle and was at home applying ointment when this call startled him so much that he jumped, spilling an entire bottle of ointment everywhere—the strong smell made it hard to keep his eyes open. 0

“Another one?! Has the murderer gone mad? Are they throwing a party in my jurisdiction?” Xu Liang exclaimed angrily as he jumped up physically; as soon as his feet hit the ground, pain shot through him, making him gasp for air while his face twitched from both pain and ointment fumes. 0

The storage rooms in Canyang Community were assigned based on room numbers. Room 2131 corresponded to Room 001 on the third floor of Building 21. When Xu Liang finally limped over, he found the homeowner with red-rimmed eyes leaning weakly against the wall. Seeing an older man approach made him think this must be someone important; he bent over slightly and trembled as he greeted him. “Sir, I swear it’s not my fault! I rented out this storage room over a year ago; I didn’t even know when they added a freezer inside! How could I possibly hide a corpse in there?” 0

“Don’t sway around; my foot hurts,” Xu Liang said as he pulled back his hand. “When exactly did you rent it out? To whom? Do you have a signed contract with fingerprints and copies of their ID?” 0

“Yes! Everything is here! I’ll go get it for you right now!” 0

Xu Liang gestured for the on-duty officer to follow him upstairs. The basement was quite chilly; suddenly feeling cold for no reason made him shiver as he leaned against the wall while slowly walking to the storage room's door. Inside against the left wall stood an old-fashioned freezer with a piece of paper resting on top that read ‘Tang Wenshan’. He frowned slightly; it felt oddly familiar. Muttering to himself while gripping the paper tightly, he opened the freezer lid and was immediately hit by a blast of cold air. After allowing some time for his senses to adjust, he peered inside and saw a female corpse completely covered in frost—especially her long eyelashes resembling snow resting on winter branches—curled up inside as if she were sleeping peacefully. “What a tragedy,” he murmured as he bent down to look behind the freezer where an electrical outlet was located about thirty centimeters off its back. He didn’t touch anything but straightened up slowly again while casting one last sympathetic glance at the corpse before closing the freezer lid and placing back down A4 paper with ‘Tang Wenshan’ printed on it. Suddenly struck by realization about who had mentioned this name earlier during their phone conversation with him—he checked his call log and saw Xiao Ye's name flash before him as he gasped softly. “Right! Xiao Ye! ‘Tang Wenshan’, victim found by Zhaowang River!” 0
