Title: Sunset at Le You Yuan
Author: Li Shangyin
As evening falls, I feel uneasy,
Driving my carriage up the ancient plain.
The sunset is infinitely beautiful,
Yet it is close to dusk.
This poem, written by the famous late Tang poet Li Shangyin, expresses the poet's sentiments while ascending Le You Yuan in the evening. The phrase "As evening falls, I feel uneasy" depicts the poet's melancholic state at dusk, where "evening" refers to the time of day and "feeling uneasy" indicates a sense of discomfort or reflection. "Driving my carriage up the ancient plain" describes the poet driving to the ancient Le You Yuan, which is located in present-day Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, a renowned scenic spot from the Tang Dynasty. "The sunset is infinitely beautiful" conveys the poet's admiration for the beauty of the sunset, with "infinitely beautiful" emphasizing the stunning scenery that evokes pleasant feelings. However, "yet it is close to dusk" suggests that while the sunset is beautiful, it also signifies the approach of nightfall, implying a bittersweet sense of transience. Through vivid imagery of the sunset and reflections on twilight, the poem conveys a profound awareness of the fleeting nature of beauty and a subtle sadness. The language is concise yet philosophical, making it one of Li Shangyin's notable works.
Story Title: Sunset at Le You Yuan
The city I live in is an ancient town; though not bustling, it is lively and vibrant. My favorite place is a vast grassland outside the town called Le You Yuan. The sunset at Le You Yuan is the most beautiful; the fiery red sun gradually sinks below the horizon.
The golden afterglow burned at the horizon, draping the entire land in a layer of golden light. Every evening, I would go out to play on the grassland, listening to the chirping of birds returning to their nests and enjoying the scenery under the sunset glow. My grandfather often took walks at Le You Yuan; he loved the sunsets here the most. Whenever the sun began to set, he would take me for a stroll on the grassland and tell me ancient stories. His voice was deep and gentle, making me feel as if I had traveled back to a distant past. I always opened my curious eyes wide, listening intently to those tales.
In the evenings at Le You Yuan, my bond with my grandfather felt incredibly close. He knew many interesting anecdotes from ancient times and could always convey a sense of historical depth through his vivid language. I learned a lot about ancient history from him and felt his love for me. Under the sunset, the beauty of Le You Yuan and my grandfather's stories filled me with joy and a spirit of exploration.
This afternoon, I felt a bit down, so I decided to go to Le You Yuan to clear my mind. I drove my little car across the grassland, with the sunset's afterglow shining on the car window, sparkling like gold. My mood was somewhat low; despite the beautiful scenery outside, I had no desire to appreciate it. I sighed and continued driving forward.
Suddenly, I heard a bird's call; it seemed to be right beside my car. I turned my head and saw a small black bird flying outside my window. Its body was light and adorable, with bright little eyes gazing at me intently. It didn't seem afraid of me at all; instead, it circled around my car as if keeping me company. My mood suddenly lifted a bit; this little bird made me feel the beauty of life.
I continued driving forward, and the bird followed my car all along. Gradually, my spirits improved more and more as I began to appreciate the beauty of Le You Yuan. The sunset's afterglow spread across the land, dyeing the entire grassland in gold. I rolled down the car window, letting in a gentle breeze that made me feel refreshed and at ease.
The birds were still flying beside my car, accompanying me and reminding me of the beauty of life. I got out of the car and sat on the grass at Le You Yuan, gazing at the sunset in the sky. The sky was painted a brilliant orange-red, a truly spectacular sight, but I felt a sense of melancholy.
I remembered something my grandfather once said: "The sunset is beautiful, but it also signifies the end of a day." Indeed, the end of a day means darkness is approaching, but it also heralds the beginning of a new day. I stared at the sunset as it slowly disappeared below the horizon. Suddenly, I realized that life is much like this; many things are constantly changing.
Although such changes can sometimes be frightening, what matters is learning to accept and adapt. The setting sun reminded me that each day will pass, and regardless of how it goes, we must look forward. Tomorrow will be a new day, filled with new hopes and challenges awaiting us.
I sat quietly on the grass, feeling the gentle breeze brush against my cheeks, watching as the last rays of the sun gradually faded into the distance. A surge of courage welled up inside me; I wanted to bravely step into the future and welcome the arrival of a new day!
When I returned home, I excitedly told my grandfather about the beautiful sunset I saw at Le You Yuan and how my mood had changed. "Grandpa, I saw the sunset and it was so beautiful!"
"Oh? How did that make you feel?" Grandpa smiled as he listened to me recount my experience.
"At first, I felt a bit down, but after seeing the sunset, my mood improved a lot."
Grandpa gently patted my head and said, "Life has its ups and downs, just like the sunset. But what’s important is that we learn to appreciate every moment."
His words were like seeds planted deep in my heart. I understood that life has both joy and sorrow, but what matters is learning to cherish every moment; whether happy or sad, each has its value and significance.
I nodded gratefully at Grandpa and said, "Thank you, Grandpa."
He smiled back at me and replied, "No need to thank me; this is wisdom I've learned from life."
I remembered Grandpa's words and that beautiful sunset. In the days to come, I would bravely face the future and appreciate every moment in life.
