Meanwhile, Ji Meng sat in the monitoring room, his gaze fixed on the television screen. It displayed footage of me running into the restroom. Although he didn't understand exactly what I had experienced, years of experience made him sense that something was off.
"That kid..." he murmured, "has he discovered something?" He felt a threat, a presence that posed a danger to their plans. He quickly pressed a button and summoned two security guards. They were dressed in security uniforms, tall and sturdy, and upon entering the monitoring room, they respectfully bowed to Ji Meng.
"Boss, what are your instructions?" one of them asked. Ji Meng pointed at me on the screen, his voice cold. "Control that kid; don't let him interfere with our plans." The two security guards nodded in acknowledgment, armed with Tasers, and walked into the empty teaching building.
Fortunately, I had escaped through the restroom window earlier.
"Over here!" Lin Yutong waved to me from around the corner. "Hurry!" I quickly followed her. She led me across the empty playground to a small grove on the back hill. She stopped, breathing heavily.
"Why... are the security guards chasing you?" she asked, somewhat out of breath. I hesitated for a moment before deciding to tell her the truth.
"Actually... I just traveled through the Timeline..." I explained my experience as simply as possible. After hearing this, her face showed surprise.
"Is what you're saying true?" she asked.
"Of course." I pulled out the yellowed note from my pocket and handed it to her. "This is the key that allowed me to travel."
She took the note and examined it carefully.
I was afraid she wouldn't believe me, so I hurriedly explained, "I don't know what's going on either, but this note..."
"I've seen it before," she said.
What?
I was stunned.
She pulled out a red note from her pocket, which looked almost identical to mine except for the color.
We spoke in unison.
"Time Displacement."
Lin Yutong told me that she had a similar experience before, but it wasn't as frequent as mine.
"Do you know?" she said, "Every time you travel, it causes subtle changes in the Timeline."
"I know," I nodded.
In fact, I had noticed this long ago.
"If I stay in this Timeline..."
"It would lead to disaster," Lin Yutong completed my thought.
"We can't let that happen," I said, feeling a heaviness in my heart.
Lin Yutong looked at me, her eyes revealing complex emotions.
"But..." her voice trembled slightly, "if it really happens, what can we do?"
I fell silent.
Yes, if it really happens, what can I do?
I'm just an ordinary person; I can't control time or change what has already happened.
I felt an unprecedented sense of helplessness.
Lin Yutong patted my shoulder.
"Don't think too much," she said, "at least we're together now."
I forced a smile.
I knew she was trying to comfort me, but I couldn't accept such comfort.
I had to find a way to solve the problem; I couldn't let Time Displacement destroy our lives.
Just as I was about to speak, I suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
I turned my head and froze.
Another me was standing not far away.
Lin Yutong also noticed the presence of the other me.
