The crowded people continued to mechanically push towards the parked bus. In the distance, several transport planes had opened their thrusters and were slowly ascending, flying toward the distant glow of the setting sun. This scene once seemed beautiful, but now it felt like a mockery of those left behind.
This made the people waiting on the ground even more agitated; they shoved and shouted, unwilling to risk their lives here. However, no one noticed a girl moving against the flow.
Ming Juan held several small bags, her arms shielding her face as she made her way to the back of the crowd. The crowd seemed willing to part for her, instinctively making way for Ming Juan while continuing to push onto the bus without looking back.
"Take your time! Don't push! We will ensure every citizen is safely evacuated!" The armed police on the fire truck repeated these powerless words, trying to calm everyone's fears.
"Sixtieth Rescue Vehicle, please depart immediately!"
Tears streamed down Ming Juan's face as she ran faster, pushing through the last person and sprinting toward the empty city behind the crowd, as if she had been reborn. She didn’t want to leave this place; she would rather fall in this city than struggle to survive in a world without him.
"Where did that girl go?" one of the armed police who had been at the gate asked his partner.
"I didn't see her," the partner replied.
The armed police peered into the bus, but with so many heads packed together, it was impossible to distinguish one person from another.
"I hope she got on," he prayed.
The Sixtieth Vehicle drove away along the path where the riot police stood. The partner turned around to look out at the world beyond the window and suddenly saw something—far off in the sky, a figure was suspended, bathed in sunlight, with tattered clothing fluttering in the wind, like a savior.
"What is that?" the partner tapped the armed police.
The armed police moved closer but focused not on that figure but on the houses and office buildings behind her that were beginning to catch fire and explode.
"Are there soldiers guarding over there?" he asked.
"Yes, my classmate... is still there," his partner said, also sensing something was wrong.
In the distance, Virgil raised his hand and aimed at the Sixtieth Rescue Vehicle.
The two armed police immediately raised their eyebrows.
"Driver, hurry up—"
A beam of light shot out from the driver's side, slicing through the bus. The last thing the armed police saw in their lives was the driver disappearing before them; then it was their turn...
"Ah!"
The crowd on the ground watched in horror as the Sixtieth Rescue Vehicle was cut into two halves. The upper part fell due to inertia while the lower half burst into flames and slid a short distance before coming to a stop.
People were stunned, including Ming Juan, who was drawn in by the sound of the explosion. The flames ignited by gasoline burned in Ming Juan's pupils, and that demon appeared in Ming Juan's eyes.
Looking at the Spirit Corps in the sky, only one word popped into Ming Juan's mind: "Run."
With dust trailing from beneath their feet, Ming Juan took off running madly towards home.
"Help—" A sudden scream pierced through the silence of the crowd, breaking the eardrums of those present.
"Cover the civilians and retreat to the city!" The last command came from a military Humvee, and then with a loud boom, it was bombarded by a beam of light.
"Zombies?" Virgil asked casually.
Immediately, countless heads emerged from every corner of the city behind them, baring their teeth and roaring, some even carrying human heads and fighting over mangled corpses.
"Stop fighting!" Virgil turned back and glared, saying, "There are still so many ahead."
Upon hearing this, the Zombie Horde immediately gathered together, baring their fangs and looking eager to pounce, creating a terrifying scene.
"Zombie Horde, heed my command," Virgil shouted.
People had already begun to flee in a frenzy, running while glancing back.
Virgil pointed towards the army coming against the crowd, various armored vehicles, and fighter jets roaring overhead, and spoke: "Leave no one alive."
"Wow—" The zombies surged away from Virgil, moving at an astonishing speed, roaring as they flooded into the square from all directions.
"Do not retreat until all civilians have evacuated to the new assembly point!" In the command room, an officer beside General Jiang immediately issued an urgent directive.
General Jiang watched the horrifying zombies on the screen; flashes of fire flickered between the military's defensive line and the approaching Zombie Horde. Although the military's firepower was extremely fierce, the Zombie Horde continued to close in gradually.
"What about your secret troops?" The officer glared at General Jiang. "Don't tell me they're still having dinner!"
"Hmph," General Jiang scoffed inwardly and replied, "They finished eating long ago."
As he spoke, General Jiang pointed to a Hovercraft flying in from the left side of the horizon on the screen.
Inside the Hovercraft, "An Xiaotian, do you all understand your tasks?" he asked as he looked at everyone.
"Understood!" The Celestial Warriors immediately responded to Captain An.
The rear door of the Hovercraft had opened, and the airflow rushed in like a tsunami, making it hard for everyone to keep their eyes open.
" Sister Jiao An, Weishan, coordinate with the military defense line and cover the evacuation of the civilians!"
Jiao An and Qin Weishan accepted the order and jumped off the Hovercraft without hesitation.
"Dr. Xu, Lu Sha, prepare the secondary defense line and clear the battlefield!"
"Lu Sha, protect Dr. Xu! Otherwise, you'll be held accountable!"
"No problem!" Lu Sha's response was unclear whether he meant "go ahead and hold me accountable" or "I will protect him." Xu Yicheng, listening nearby, felt a chill run down his spine.
Lu Sha glanced at the burning skyscraper and said, "Uh, can I..."
"You talk too much; hurry up and get down." Xu Yicheng pushed Lu Sha, who stumbled and fell.
"I'm afraid of heights! Ah—"
The scream was quickly swallowed by the falling snowflakes.
Xu Yicheng made an "OK" gesture to the remaining An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan in the Hovercraft, took a deep breath, and jumped down.
"Dr. Xu is quite brave," Liu Xuan said to An Xiaotian, surprised that such a scientist who seemed inept at fighting would jump into hell like this.
"With faith, one is invincible," An Xiaotian replied as he set the Hovercraft to auto-land. As he spoke, his armor quickly assembled around him—this time he wore the Crimson Phoenix armor from the previous mission to eliminate Dompey.
"We must find Miao Chengmin," An Xiaotian said.
Without any training, both of them started off in sync. After a brief leaf-like descent through the air, An Xiaotian spread his wings and flew toward the city; Liu Xuan summoned his newly manufactured Thruster and followed closely behind An Xiaotian.
In an alleyway, the cats were licking their paws clean; their food containers were licked spotless while snowflakes fell into them and melted away.
Miao Chengmin stared blankly at the snowing sky; all he could do now was wait for his body to finish healing. But it seemed like it would take a long time.
The sound of countless footsteps grew closer; Miao Chengmin felt puzzled as he watched people running back from the square, screaming, along with armored vehicles going against traffic.
In the sky, a formation of fighter jets roared past, startling the cats again as they jumped down from a trash bin and huddled beside Miao Chengmin.
Miao Chengmin stared seriously at the outside world; he didn't know how The Celestial Warriors and the military would fight against Virgil's zombie army without him and the Spirit Corps. But all he could do now was trust them.
Suddenly, a mass resembling snowflakes appeared in Miao Chengmin's line of sight; it moved cautiously as if searching for something or sensing an aura.
The alley was too narrow for this little thing to pass through easily. Miao Chengmin suddenly realized that his whole body began to heat up.
Again, that feeling! Clearly, I have no sensations, yet a warm current flows within me! It must be my body responding to that thing just now. Could it be...
Miao Chengmin's eyes lit up with flames as he shouted towards the corner where the Chaos Crystals had just flown: "Hey, I'm here! Come over, little guy! I'm right here!"
The moving form of the Chaos Crystals suddenly emerged from that corner, seemingly peeking into the alley.
"Come over!" Miao Chengmin waved his arm, wishing he could stretch it out to pull the Chaos Crystals into his embrace.
Sure enough, the Chaos Crystals obediently floated down. The cats quickly scattered, staring at this moving entity. The Chaos Crystals hovered above Miao Chengmin's body, probably observing his injuries.
"Do you have any way to help me recover faster?" Miao Chengmin asked the Chaos Crystals.
The Chaos Crystals twisted slightly, and then small crystals gently spread across Miao Chengmin's remaining upper body. It was as if his body were a quagmire; these small crystals sank in one by one and disappeared.
"Huh?" Miao Chengmin was stunned.
"Is it trying to merge itself into my body?"
The cats widened their eyes in surprise. One little kitten even tried to reach out its paw to touch it but was quickly stopped by a larger cat. They saw Miao Chengmin's chest begin to rise and fall abnormally, a cluster of black light gathering there.
In an instant, a scorching heat like that of the sun swept over him, waves of energy began to surge violently within Miao Chengmin's body. He tilted his head back, silently enduring...
"Ugh—"
A roar echoed through the alley as a jet-black beam shot up into the sky from the alley. Everyone saw it, including the Fierce Eagle and Blue Face Hero flying above, as well as the distant Zombie Queen.
"Xiao Ling, immediately mark the coordinates of that beam!" Fierce Eagle ordered.
Blue Face Hero opened his tactical analysis visor but closed it almost immediately—too intense; it would surely explode.
"Such strong energy fluctuations," Blue Face Hero remarked.
"How strong?" Fierce Eagle asked, staring in that direction.
"…"
"Speak!" Fierce Eagle turned to Blue Face Hero.
"As strong as it gets," Blue Face Hero could only explain.
The perspective shifted to Ming Juan.
Ming Juan had left the crowd behind her far away, but she saw the transport plane ahead suddenly come to a stop.
A distant officer was watching her through binoculars.
"Come on over, young lady; no one is competing with you for a seat!" the officer muttered to himself.
However, contrary to everyone's expectations, Ming Juan locked eyes with the binoculars and resolutely shook her head, walking into the nearby community. Behind her came countless citizens rushing for their lives.
The officer widened his eyes in shock and lowered the binoculars.
"Owner, Ming Juan, welcome home."
The machine scanned Ming Juan's face, which was damp with a mix of snowflakes and tears, and opened the door to the residential building for her.
Fortunately, the house key was still in Ming Juan's hand. She opened the door and rushed into her room like a madwoman, finally able to let out the sadness that had been building up inside her.
Ming Juan collapsed onto the bed, covering her face with a pillow as she cried uncontrollably.
**Center of the Battlefield**
In the square, bodies were piled high, but they were not Soulless. The soldiers had no idea that Soulless could only be truly killed when their bodies were separated from their heads. The brutal assault of the Soulless was overwhelming; if it weren't for their greed for the corpses, they would have long since chased down the civilians.
"Fall back! Fall back!"
The soldiers were forced to retreat, with an armored vehicle at the front providing cover for their withdrawal.
Fighter jets roared overhead, dropping high-powered missiles on the Zombie Horde, but just as they prepared for a second round of bombardment, two jets were sliced to pieces by a beam of light.
"Annoying." The Zombie Queen spared the remaining jets for now.
Seeing that they couldn't move the armored vehicle, the zombies began to climb on top of it, tearing off the hatches and crawling inside. Soon, the armored vehicle became immobile, and gunfire and sounds of bodies being pierced echoed from within.
"You all go first!"
A non-commissioned officer patted a nearby soldier; several zombies jumped off the vehicle and fearlessly surged forward.
The officer pulled out a grenade from his waist, smiled grimly, and pulled the pin.
"Come on—" he shouted as he watched the zombies charge at him.
Suddenly, from around a corner on the road came the roar of a motorcycle. The officer turned to see a female Special Forces Soldier clad in pale purple speeding toward them, with a silver-clad boxer sitting behind her.
As she slid her motorcycle into a sharp turn, she leaped into the air while Nightmare drew her Fate Conqueror from her back. Blue flames erupted from the gun's muzzle as each shot struck true against the approaching zombies' necks.
The bullets exploded on impact, sending heads flying in all directions.
Divine Fist landed quickly and snatched the grenade from the officer's hand, throwing it fiercely into the Zombie Horde where it detonated, illuminating the faces of two Celestial Warriors standing protectively in front of him.
"Brother, you have guts!" Divine Fist gave a thumbs-up to the officer; his thumb wrapped in gleaming white steel sparkled in the firelight.
"Leave the rest to us."
Divine Fist and Nightmare stood side by side before a dense mass of zombies.
