I blinked in confusion and looked at him. "Have you had too much to drink?" 0

He shook his head and smiled. "I can hold my liquor pretty well." 0

"Then you..." 0

He tilted his head and gazed at me quietly. "Don't you believe what I'm saying?" 0

I hesitated for a moment and whispered, "It's not that I don't believe you; I just feel..." 0

"Feel what?" 0

"Feel..." I paused, gathering my courage. "Feel that it's strange for you to say such things to me." 0

He was slightly taken aback but then smiled. "Why do you say that?" 0

"Because the way you present yourself in front of me is different from how others see you." 0

He fell silent for a long time before quietly asking, "Which one do you prefer?" 0

I was stunned. 0

I had never thought about that question. 0

Do I like him? 0

I didn't know. 0

All I knew was that I liked it when he called me sister, enjoyed being with him, and loved seeing him smile... 0

But whether this kind of liking was romantic or not, I wasn't sure. 0

Maybe I just see him as family. 0

I sighed and said softly, "Jiang Xiaoyu, I'm a bit tired today. I'm going to head back and rest. You should get to bed early too." 0

After saying that, I turned to leave. 0

Just a few steps out, my phone suddenly rang. 0

It was Zhang Tingting calling. 0

I answered the phone, "Hello, Tingting." 0

Zhang Tingting's voice was as haughty as ever, "Hey, have you seen Jiang Xiaoyu?" 0

"Yeah, I saw him." 0

"Did he bully you?" 0

"No." 0

"Hmph, at least he knows better." 0

I couldn't help but laugh, "Why are you suddenly concerned about him?" 0

Zhang Tingting cleared her throat, "Who’s concerned about him? I'm just worried you might get bullied by him." 0

"Really?" 0

"Of course!" Zhang Tingting sounded a bit flustered, "I'm warning you, don't say anything bad about me in front of him." 0

"Who would dare?" 0

"Cut, you better not dare." Zhang Tingting paused, "By the way, Jiang Xiaoyu has a bit of a temper, especially in front of strangers. He always looks cold and aloof, but he should be a bit better around you." 0

I was slightly taken aback. "Why?" 0

"Because you're nice to him," Zhang Tingting said matter-of-factly. "That kid may have a bad temper, but he knows how to be grateful." 0

I couldn't help but laugh. "You seem to think quite highly of him." 0

"Not really," Zhang Tingting mumbled. "I just don't want to owe him any favors." 0

"Oh," I deliberately elongated my tone, "I see, so you're afraid of owing him a favor." 0

"Exactly," Zhang Tingting said confidently. "Owing favors is very troublesome; I hate it the most." 0

I shook my head helplessly. "Yes, yes, Miss Zhang hates owing favors the most." 0

After hanging up the phone, I looked up and found Jiang Xiaoyu staring at me. 0

His eyes were dark and bright, shining like black jewels, making it hard to look away. 0

I felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze and touched my cheek. "Is there something on my face?" 0

He shook his head and softly said, "No." 0

"Then you..." 0

"I just think your smile is really beautiful," he said gently. 0

My heart skipped a beat. 0

I looked away, unable to meet his gaze. "You're drunk; let me help you get back." 0

"I'm not drunk," he insisted stubbornly. 0

"Okay, you're not drunk," I sighed helplessly and turned to shout at Zhao Ming not far away, "Hey, Zhao Ming, could you please take Teacher Jiang back to the dorm?" 0

"Sure thing!" Zhao Ming said with a smile as he ran over and put his arm around Jiang Xiaoyu's shoulder. "Come on, Teacher Jiang, let's go." 0

Jiang Xiaoyu didn't resist and obediently followed Zhao Ming away. 0

I watched their figures disappear, a wave of inexplicable emotions rising in my heart. 0

What did those words from Jiang Xiaoyu really mean? 0

Could it be that he likes me? 0

The thought flashed through my mind, sending a chill down my spine. 0

How could that be? 0

We're good friends, and besides, he's three years younger than me... 0

I shook my head, trying to dispel the distracting thoughts in my mind, and turned back to the dining table. 0

The meal was still ongoing, but the atmosphere was no longer as lively as before. 0

Everyone seemed tired, focusing on their food without chatting anymore. 0

Gao Yang had been silent, his gaze fixed on me, making me feel uneasy. 0

After a moment of hesitation, I finally couldn't hold back: "Gao Yang, if you have something to say, just say it." 0

Gao Yang gave a wry smile. "I'm sorry, Song Jia, I know I shouldn't disturb you, but I really can't control myself." 0

I lowered my eyelids and didn't respond. 0

"I really miss the days we spent together," Gao Yang said, his voice low and filled with deep sadness. "We were so happy back then, without any worries, but..." 0

He sighed. "But in the end, we still parted ways." 0

I remained silent. 0

"I'm sorry, Song Jia," Gao Yang's voice gradually became firm. "I don't want to be a burden to you, so I respect your choice." 0

I looked up at him and managed a faint smile. "Thank you for your understanding." 0

"No need to thank me," Gao Yang winked at me. "After all, I hope you find happiness too." 0

I bit my lip and stood up. "I'm going back to the dormitory now. You all enjoy your meal." 0

With that, I quickly walked towards the dormitory. 0

I didn't dare to look back, fearing that if I did, tears would fall. 0

Gao Yang's blessing felt more like a mockery to me. 0

I knew I had hurt him, but I had no other choice. 0

I had already lost too much in my life; I didn't want to lose myself as well. 0

The next morning, I got up early and went to the kitchen to help make breakfast. 0

As I was bringing the porridge to the courtyard, I bumped into Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

He was wearing sneakers, and his forehead was covered in sweat; it seemed he had just come back from a run. 0

"You..." I was a bit surprised. "Why are you up so early?" 0

He glanced at me, his face slightly flushed. "I couldn't sleep, so I went for a run." 0

"Oh." I nodded. "You should hurry and take a shower and change your clothes. Be careful not to catch a cold." 0

"Yeah." He replied softly and hurried past me. 0

I was taken aback, wondering why he seemed to be avoiding me like the plague. 0

Just then, Zhao Ming suddenly popped out from the side, grinning. "Teacher Song, is Teacher Jiang shy?" 0

"Shy?" I was even more confused. "What is he shy about?" 0

"I don't know." Zhao Ming scratched his head. "I ran into him earlier and said hello, but he ignored me, and his face was really red." 0

After hearing Zhao Ming's words, I became more certain that Jiang Xiaoyu was indeed avoiding me. 0

But why was he avoiding me? 0

I couldn't figure it out. 0

After breakfast, I took the students to the playground for gym class. 0

I noticed that Jiang Xiaoyu had not come near me at all. 0

Even when we happened to walk towards each other, he would quickly change direction and keep his distance from me. 0

The more I thought about it, the stranger it felt. So during a break, I called him over. 0

"Why are you avoiding me?" I asked straightforwardly. 0

He was taken aback, a blush appearing on his face. "N-no, I didn't." 0

"No?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "Then why did you hide as soon as you saw me?" 0

"I..." he stammered, "I felt a bit hot." 0

"Hot?" I looked at him suspiciously. "What month is it? Why are you feeling hot?" 0

"I..." He hesitated for a moment. "I have a good constitution." 0

I was completely speechless. 0

I stared at him for a long time before suddenly realizing something. 0

Could it be that he likes me? 0

This thought startled me. 0

No way, we've known each other for so long; if he liked me, he should have confessed by now. Why wait until now? 0

But if he doesn't like me, then why does he hide whenever he sees me? 0

After thinking for a long time, I ultimately decided not to dwell on this question. 0

Maybe he just isn't used to being alone with me yet. 0

I comforted myself with that thought. 0

After school in the afternoon, I returned to the dormitory and found that Jiang Xiaoyu was not there. 0

I sent him a message asking where he had gone, but he didn't reply. 0

I thought for a moment and called Zhao Ming to ask about Jiang Xiaoyu's whereabouts. 0

Zhao Ming told me that Jiang Xiaoyu had gone out in the afternoon and hadn't returned since. 0

I immediately panicked and hurriedly called Principal Chen to inform him that Jiang Xiaoyu was missing. 0

Principal Chen quickly organized the teachers to go out and search for Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

We searched the entire Wutong Village but still couldn't find Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

I was so anxious that tears started to fall. I cried while calling Jiang Xiaoyu, but the phone was always unanswered. 0

As the sky gradually darkened, we still hadn't found Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

Despair filled my heart as I sat on the ground, overwhelmed with fear. 0

What if something happened to Jiang Xiaoyu? 0

If something happened to him, how would I explain it to Zhang Tingting? 0

Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated. 0

I quickly took out my phone; it was a call from Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

I excitedly answered the call, "Jiang Xiaoyu, where are you?" 0

Jiang Xiaoyu's voice was soft, "I'm on the back mountain." 0

"The back mountain?" I paused for a moment, "What are you doing there?" 0

"Looking at the stars." 0

I breathed a sigh of relief and then angrily said, "Do you know how worried we were looking for you? And you're out stargazing?" 0

"I'm sorry," Jiang Xiaoyu said softly. 0

"Forget it," I sighed. "Just hurry back. Everyone is worried sick." 0

"Okay." 0

After hanging up the phone, I reported Jiang Xiaoyu's location to Principal Chen and then returned to school with the teachers. 0

As soon as I walked through the school gate, I received a message from Jiang Xiaoyu. 0

"Have you reconciled with Gao Yang?" 0

I was taken aback, and a sudden wave of inexplicable irritation surged within me. 0

"No," I quickly typed back. "Don't make wild guesses." 0

"Oh," Jiang Xiaoyu replied with just one word and didn't say anything else. 0

I tucked my phone into my pocket, took a deep breath, and tried to calm my emotions. 0

What is wrong with me? 0
