The light in the cave brightened, revealing that it was already morning outside. They had passed the night peacefully, without any Demon Beasts disturbing them. A man and a woman were nestled together, quietly enjoying a moment that felt quite beautiful.
"Ah, I actually fell asleep. How terrible," Chu Yanran said as her eyelashes fluttered, slowly opening her eyes. She appeared somewhat dazed and took a while to realize her surroundings. However, seeing that nothing was amiss, she quietly sighed in relief.
"Then let's sleep a little longer!" She looked at Ren Pingsheng, who still had his eyes closed, with a gentle smile on her face before leaning against him. For some reason, resting against him made her feel very secure, like a ship returning to harbor, no longer needing to worry about the onslaught of storms.
Ren Pingsheng, who had intended to end his meditation, stiffened for a moment, feeling somewhat helpless about the situation. He didn't know whether to open his eyes or continue pretending to be unconscious. Although he was quite powerful, he was still clueless about matters between men and women.
After a moment's hesitation, he found it increasingly difficult to maintain his pretense. The unique fragrance of the girl beside him made his heart race and feel restless.
"Ahem..." To avoid further awkwardness, Ren Pingsheng deliberately cleared his throat and pretended to just wake up. This immediately startled Chu Yanran, who was leaning against him.
"Ah, Ren Brother, you're awake!" she exclaimed happily, her cheeks slightly flushed. It was unclear whether her shyness from earlier or her excitement at his awakening caused her blush.
"Ahem... Yes, how long have I been unconscious? Where is this place?"
"We're still in Nanyun Forest, in a cave. You've been unconscious for half a day and night."
"Oh, thank you very much," Ren Pingsheng said as he sat up with a smile. After recovering through the night, his injuries had improved somewhat; however, it would likely take several more days for him to fully heal.
"By the way, Ren Brother, you must be hungry. I'll go get you something to eat," Chu Yanran suddenly remembered something and quickly got up, hurriedly exiting the cave in search of food.
"Ah, I hope my earlier behavior wasn't seen; that would be so embarrassing." Once outside the cave, she muttered in embarrassment, her face adorably flushed. However, after a moment she shook off that feeling and quickly returned with some game she had caught. She hadn't forgotten that there was still an injured person here!
"Let me do the grilling!" Ren Pingsheng looked at the sweating Chu Yanran, who had just burned another piece of meat to a crisp, and spoke half-heartedly, half out of kindness.
"You’re injured and need to rest. I can handle this. Just wait a bit longer." She seemed determined to prove herself, as if she were in a contest with the pile of meat, insisting on grilling something that was both edible and visually appealing.
Seeing her once again dejectedly toss aside the charred meat in her hand, only to stubbornly pull out another piece, Ren Pingsheng felt speechless towards the young girl. In the end, despite her reluctance, he took over. Mainly because he was hungry too.
A large chunk of meat in Ren Pingsheng's hands looked like a work of art; soon it emitted a savory aroma, its golden color complemented by the sizzling fat. Just looking at it made one’s mouth water. Chu Yanran's stomach protested continuously, seemingly dissatisfied with all her previous efforts and the time wasted.
"Alright, give it a try!" As Ren Pingsheng handed over a piece of grilled meat, Chu Yanran didn’t hold back and eagerly accepted it, her face full of anticipation.
"Wow, this is really delicious. Ren Brother, you’re amazing." Her eyes lit up as she began to eat without reservation, mumbling about how great Ren Pingsheng's cooking was.
Ren Pingsheng smiled lightly, his expression somewhat dazed. He suddenly recalled how he had honed his grilling skills and wondered how that little white fox was doing now. Where was she? He remembered how she would always cling to him for grilled meat every time he visited. It amused him to see her getting all messy while eating; it was both funny and frustrating but also deeply satisfying.
"Are you alright?" He asked, feeling a bit melancholic as he took a bite of grilled meat. The aroma was still rich, but he found himself eating without much taste.
"Ren Brother, are you okay?" Chu Yanran looked up just in time to catch Ren Pingsheng's expression and asked with concern.
"I'm fine; just reminiscing about some things. Hurry up and eat; we’ll leave here soon." He gently shook his head. Some memories might just have to stay in his heart; although he didn’t know where she had gone, he hoped she was doing well. He just wondered how she managed without grilled meat!
The two remained silent as they finished their food. After resting for a while, they packed up their belongings and prepared to leave the cave. Staying in one place for too long wasn’t good; it was best to leave Nanyun Forest.
Ren Pingsheng had recovered some strength; traveling wasn’t an issue now, though his pace was considerably slower. Once they exited the cave, they headed toward the back exit of Nanyun Forest.
The entrance to Nang Yun Sen was less than twenty miles from Nanyun City. That day, a group of people left Nanyun City and arrived at the entrance of Nanyun Forest. They stood together, hesitating for some reason and did not immediately enter Nanyun Forest. Other adventurers had already paired up and ventured inside in search of opportunities.
"What should we do now? There hasn't been any news about Ren Pingsheng at all." The speaker was Lin Lun, who had initially borrowed points from Ren Pingsheng, but his expression was somewhat grim at this moment.
"I haven't heard anything either. There are actually Second-Level Monsters in Demon Soul Valley, and the disciples ranked Bronze Ranking have long since scattered. It's so difficult to gather any information. However, many of them have entered the Nanyun Forest, and I believe that Ren Pingsheng is no exception; otherwise, there wouldn't be any news about him." This person was none other than Wu Yang from the Tiger Howl Sect, who had been entangled with Ren Pingsheng. He had now broken through to become a High-Level Warrior.
"That's just speculation. How do you know he entered the Nanyun Forest?" he asked irritably.
"Oh, if that's the case, what do you suggest we do? If you have a way, I'm more than willing to listen."
"You..." Lin Lun snorted in dissatisfaction. He had no solution either; he just couldn't stand Wu Yang's arrogance. Although their cultivation levels were the same, it was still Wu Yang who was in charge. There was nothing he could do since they were specifically assigned by someone else, so he could only begrudgingly accept it while maintaining a displeased attitude. The two of them had been at odds throughout the journey.
"Since there's nothing more to discuss, let's wait here at the entrance for a few days. If there's still no news by then, we can enter Nanyun Forest." Wu Yang declared, and the group of six quietly sat down nearby. Besides him and Lin Lun, there were four others sent by their superiors, all of whom were Perfect Realm Warriors, serving as the main force for this mission.
Time passed quickly, and soon three days had gone by. In the Nanyun Forest, Ren Pingsheng and Chu Yanran tried their best to avoid the Demon Beasts and gradually approached the exit.
It was the third day since they left the cave, and if they pushed a bit harder, they could leave the Nanyun Forest that night. However, at that moment, Ren Pingsheng suddenly felt uneasy. He recalled those guys from the Evil Sect. Could they be waiting for them at the exit to trap them?
This thought seemed quite possible, so they did not leave immediately but instead gathered some information about the situation at the exit. They later learned from other adventurers that there were four people dressed in black lingering at the entrance for three or four days, though their intentions were unknown.
"It doesn't seem like they're from the Evil Sect. They probably aren't looking for us, but let's be careful when we go out." After thinking for a moment, Ren Pingsheng said with some concern.
"I know. Just be careful yourself; your injuries haven't healed yet," Chu Yanran replied with a smile. To her, as long as they weren't from the Evil Sect, there wasn't much to worry about.
"Yes, I've spotted our target!" Suddenly, Wu Yang exclaimed with excitement. The other three also perked up; after nearly four days of waiting here, they finally had some results.
"We've located Ren Pingsheng. He'll be coming out soon, so everyone get ready." He spoke sharply, and all four became vigilant, preparing for an impending confrontation. Their mission this time was to eliminate Ren Pingsheng. Whether for personal or public reasons, it would benefit both him and Lin Lun.
"Is it them? How strange!" Ren Pingsheng, who had just come out, showed a hint of surprise on his face upon seeing the two people in front of him. He didn't expect to encounter them. Had they also come to Nanyun Forest? What could their purpose be? At that moment, many thoughts crossed his mind.
"Oh, Ren Pingsheng, long time no see. What a coincidence! I heard you were off participating in the Bronze Ranking assessment mission?" Wu Yang greeted him like an old friend. However, his gaze flicked over to Chu Yanran, and upon seeing her Perfect Realm Warrior cultivation, he was momentarily taken aback but quickly dismissed it.
Due to his injuries, Ren Pingsheng's aura fluctuated greatly, making it difficult for others to discern his cultivation level. In his view, the former Ren Pingsheng was at the intermediate warrior level. Now there wouldn't be much change; even if he had an additional Perfect Realm Warrior helper, it wouldn't make much difference.
"It is quite a coincidence. I wonder what your purpose is for coming here?"
"Heh heh, it's simple. Someone wants your life. We are naturally more than willing to take action!" He shouted loudly and, along with three others, drew their swords and prepared to strike down Ren Pingsheng with overwhelming force.
Ren Pingsheng remained calm as he took a few steps back to avoid their encirclement. From the moment he saw them, he had made various preparations. Chu Yanran was worried about Ren Pingsheng's injuries and immediately came forward to help, blocking three of them. This left only Wu Yang relentlessly pursuing Ren Pingsheng.
However, facing two Perfect Realm Warriors and a High-Level Warrior, she found it somewhat challenging. Ultimately, Lin Lun, the High-Level Warrior, managed to escape, and immediately Wu Yang and Lin Lun began to besiege Ren Pingsheng. Although Ren Pingsheng's injuries were not fully healed, his Perfection State cultivation meant he was not afraid of the two. As he moved, they couldn't even touch the hem of his clothes.
"Damn it! First deal with that woman, then we can all focus on Ren Pingsheng," Wu Yang said incredulously; they couldn't even handle Ren Pingsheng, a Mid-Level Warrior. He then subtly signaled with his hand.
Suddenly, the two Perfect Realm Warriors attacking Chu Yanran combined their strength and pushed her back two steps. At that moment, two others hidden in the shadows launched a surprise attack simultaneously. The strike was swift and fierce. By the time Ren Pingsheng noticed it was a bit too late; due to his injuries, he hadn't realized there were others hiding nearby.
"Be careful!" he called out softly and then swept his sword horizontally to fend off the attacks from the two. His figure flashed as he reached Chu Yanran's side just in time to block one person; however, the other changed their Sword Momentum and struck him in the chest with a single blow.
"Poof..." Already injured, Ren Pingsheng was hit by the full-force attack from the Perfect Realm Warrior and instantly sustained new injuries on top of his old ones.
