Her husband is like a thug, always using foul language, completely different from the educated family she talks about. Ever since Zhang Ting's husband caused a scene at the company, no one dared to speak to her anymore. Even Huang Zixuan and Li Cheng stopped talking to her; everyone was afraid of her husband's volatility.
I was already planning to resign, thinking I could finally escape these troubles, but unexpectedly, a call from Zhang Ting shattered my peace.
" Xiaxia, can you come to my house and take care of me for a few days?" Zhang Ting said weakly on the phone.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I have a fever, and my husband is on a business trip. I'm pregnant and really can't manage on my own," Zhang Ting said pitifully.
I recalled my previous life when Zhang Ting had said the same thing to me, claiming no one was home and asking me to take care of her for a few days. I had been soft-hearted and went over, only to find out she had lied about her husband being away; he was actually at home. I kindly took care of her, but she complained that my cooking didn't suit her taste and kicked me out.
I froze in the cold for several hours before getting back home, and once I did, I fell ill and took several days off work. Meanwhile, Zhang Ting showed no remorse and even told others it was because I insisted on visiting her that I caught a cold.
Looking back now, Zhang Ting is truly terrifying.
" Xiaxia, why aren't you saying anything? Are you unwilling?" Zhang Ting pressed when I didn't respond.
I thought for a moment and replied, "No, of course I'm willing! I'll be there right away."
Zhang Ting was overjoyed upon hearing this. "Really? That's great! I'll send you my location."
After hanging up the phone, I sneered and then called for an ambulance. Of course, if someone is sick, they should go to the hospital; that's the best choice.
I stepped out of my room and looked at the bright sunshine outside, feeling calm inside. Zhang Ting is pregnant; if she really is sick and doesn't get timely treatment, it could be dangerous. Seeking medical help is certainly the fastest way to address illness; she should be grateful to me. Ha!
In the end, I couldn't shake off my concern—after all, a pregnant woman alone at home is worrisome. Following the location she sent me, I arrived at Zhang Ting's house and rang the doorbell.
The door quickly opened, and Zhang Ting stood in front of me in her pajamas. Her complexion looked good, not at all like someone who was sick.
" Xiaxia, you finally came!" Zhang Ting happily grabbed my hand.
"Weren't you supposed to be sick?" I asked, puzzled.
"Oh, it's just a slight fever, nothing serious," Zhang Ting said dismissively.
I felt a bit angry and said, "Are you lying to me?"
Zhang Ting smiled and said, "Oh come on, don't be mad. I had no choice but to ask for your help."
"What did you really want me for?" I asked coldly.
Seeing that I was upset, Zhang Ting put away her smile and said, " Xiaxia, my husband has been traveling a lot for work lately. I'm really bored at home and just wanted you to come keep me company."
"Aren't you pregnant?" I asked.
"Yes, but my husband is busy with work and doesn't have time to keep me company. I just wanted someone to talk to and relieve my boredom," Zhang Ting replied.
Looking into Zhang Ting's big watery eyes, a wave of sadness suddenly surged in my heart.
Unexpectedly, the next day Zhang Ting recovered and came to the office with her husband.
As soon as the man walked in, he glared at me fiercely, as if he was looking for trouble.
My palms were sweaty, but I pretended to remain calm on the surface.
Zhang Ting pointed at me and said, "Honey, it's her fault that I was hospitalized."
The man stepped up to me and questioned, "Why did you cause my wife to be hospitalized?"
"How did I cause her any harm?" I retorted.
"You called an ambulance for her unnecessarily, which made us spend a fortune!" the man said angrily.
"That's ridiculous! Zhang Ting had a fever, and I kindly called an ambulance for her. Instead of thanking me, you come here to blame me?"
