She quietly gazed at him, her clear eyes reflecting her exquisite and transparent heart, so flawless and pure that even he, who had been through the trials of life and death for many years, couldn't help but be momentarily distracted. A mocking smile curled at the corners of his mouth, not directed at anyone else but himself. He truly was captivated by Cheng Mosu, to the point where his mind went blank. 0

Seeing him silent, Cheng Mosu glanced at her father. Cheng Yi must have a strong dislike for Ruan Yu; after all, not long ago at the Shangguan Residence, Ruan Yu had pointed a gun at him. Such a great humiliation was something Cheng Yi had likely never experienced before, and it would surely be unforgettable. 0

Ruan Yu seemed to have forgotten about this incident entirely. He jumped off his horse and laughed, "This must be my father-in-law, right? I pay my respects." 0

"Stop with the smooth talk!" Cheng Yi shouted in anger. "The last time we met, you almost shot me dead. What are you scheming this time?" 0

"Oh? Father-in-law, holding a grudge like that isn't good." A hint of mockery appeared on his lips, but his gaze grew colder. "I just fired a shot into the sky. If I had aimed at you, you would have been long gone by now. Then I could have taken my woman without telling anyone!" 0

Cheng Yi glared at him. It was the first time he had encountered such an unreasonable person. Clearly, Ruan Yu was in the wrong, yet Ruan Yu turned it around and blamed him! It was utterly ridiculous! Ignoring Cheng Mosu's attempts to pull him back, he raised his voice and said, "Mosu is my daughter! When did she become yours? I wasn't informed!" 0

"Oh? Father-in-law, you don't even know this? Tsk tsk, I’m starting to doubt if you're the real deal; otherwise, how could you not know when I married Mosu?" Ruan Yu fixed his gaze on him with a smile on his lips but eyes as deep as the ocean. Cheng Yi had never seen such a barbaric person before and couldn't think of any retort; the classical teachings he learned in his youth were of no use now, which made him quite frustrated. 0

Cheng Mosu couldn't help but smile at her father's misfortune; these two arguing resembled children fighting over trivial matters. At that moment, Ruan Yu's gaze turned to her. The morning light poured down upon Cheng Mosu's snow-white cheeks, and her gentle smile unexpectedly warmed his heart. He suddenly felt joy for the decision he had made. 0

Originally, he had planned to wait for Cheng Mosu to return on her own, but unexpectedly Deputy Officer Cai discovered clues and found out that the Southern Gang had kidnapped Cheng Mosu. He knew that Nan Wan treated Cheng Mosu very well and wouldn't harm a hair on her head. However, he was still anxious; a voice in his heart kept telling him that she might never return. 0

He couldn't wait any longer and rushed here. Fortunately, he arrived in time; otherwise, if Mosu had listened to this old man's persuasion, they would have parted ways forever! 0

"Mosu, come back with me!" he commanded in a cold voice. 0

"Since you've come here, I'm not going back," Cheng Mosu replied confidently. She still believed in Ruan Yu's words; she thought that if Ruan Yu agreed to let her go, he would not go back on his word. A faint smile appeared on her lips as she added, "Please help me bring my notebook." 0

Ruan Yu frowned slightly, unable to bear looking at that gentle smile, and shifted her gaze elsewhere. "What notebook? I don't know. You can just come back with me to get it." 0

"How could you not know? You almost burned it," Cheng Mosu glanced at her, his calm demeanor like an elegant orchid, making him unconsciously captivated. 0

He pretended to think for a moment and said, "I really don't remember. You come back with me and get it yourself." He cast a glance at Cheng Yi. "Father-in-law doesn't need to come with us. After Mosu gets the notebook, I'll send her back to you. How does that sound?" 0

Cheng Yi snorted coldly. "If I let Mosu go back with you, will you really send her back? You can deceive my daughter, but you can't deceive me! Mosu, don't listen to his nonsense. I think this guy will definitely keep you once you go back, then send someone to drive me away or even kill me. After that, we father and daughter won't be able to meet again!" 0

Cheng Mosu smiled lightly, holding her father's hand in return, her voice warm and gentle like jade. "Dad, I think you're overthinking it. Ruan Yu isn't really that bad to others; he's actually quite good to me. He promised he wouldn't go back on his word. Just wait here for a bit; I'll be back soon." 0

Cheng Yi sighed and looked intently at his daughter. This daughter of his was usually smart and calm, yet for some reason, she had complete trust in Ruan Yu, throwing all caution to the wind. Ruan Yu quietly watched her as she silently smiled at him, her black hair flying in the spring breeze while her water-colored eyes chased after the pure beauty within. 0

He remained silent for a moment, ultimately unable to resist. His narrow eyes tightly closed; after a while, he opened them and said, "Mosu, I'm sorry. I lied to you, but I promise this is the last time." 0

She looked at the stubborn smile at the corners of his lips and couldn't help but ask, "What do you mean?" 0

"I really will do as your father said." His gaze swept over Cheng Yi before moving back to Cheng Mosu's countenance. "I plan to trick you back first and then keep you captive before sending him away. Although your father is getting old, he's not foolish." 0

Cheng Yi's brows twitched twice; was Ruan Yu praising him or mocking him? 0

Cheng Mosu furrowed her brow, feeling a wave of unspoken frustration wash over her. Based on Ruan Yu's character, if he didn't genuinely want to let her go, he would indeed do anything. She bit her rose-colored lips and said, "So what do you want now? Let me be clear: I won't stay by your side; I just want to take that notebook and leave." 0

"I understand what you mean." His eyes dimmed slightly. "But I've also said that I won't let you leave." 0

"You brat, your legs are long enough for us to use, if Mosu wants to leave, can you really stop her?" Cheng Yi couldn't stand his attitude and said angrily. 0

He raised his eyebrows, his narrow Eyes revealing a hint of coldness. "Yes, I naturally can't stop her. If she insists on leaving, I will bury everyone from the Southern Gang here!" 0

Cheng Yi and Cheng Mosu exchanged a glance, both taken aback. Although the Southern Gang was powerful, it was still not a legitimate organization. Since Ruan Yu was now under Jiang Shanghao, he had the authority to punish the Southern Gang. 0

He smiled and noticed that the two were silent again. He continued, "Alright, I see you don't believe my words. I usually have a crowd around me when I go out, and now there's only one standing in front of you. Don't you want to know where the others went?" 0

"Others?" A sense of foreboding crossed Cheng Mosu's mind. "You didn't call your personal guards to surround the Southern Gang's base here, did you?" 0

"Hmph, since Nan Wanjie took my woman, of course I have to hunt him down!" He laughed fiercely but softened his expression when he saw Cheng Mosu. "Mosu, as long as you come back with me, I'll let them go." 0

Cheng Mosu lowered her gaze while Cheng Yi was signaling her not to leave. She pretended not to see it. This matter arose because of her; she couldn't let others be implicated because of her own reasons. She darkened her expression and lightly raised her Rose-Colored Lips. "Fine, I agree to go back with you." 0
