He did not speak, and she could only silently endure the strange silence. She looked up at him, feeling that behind the silence was a surge of emotions, and at the end of the night was light. 0

An indescribable emotion blocked his heart tightly, leaving no room for anything else. His eyes, black as ink, reflected on her, complex and deep. Why did he clearly know that this world did not operate for him, yet still want her world to exist solely for him? 0

He took her hand, dispelling her unease. He no longer asked her if she was sure or if she would persist. These questions he would not throw at her; he wanted to place them upon himself, to bear everything for her. If one day she regretted or grew weary, he wanted her to blame him, not herself. 0

Cheng Mosu wore a clear smile at the corners of her lips, her small hand wrapped in his warmth. The stars twinkling in the sky seemed to silently bless them. He gently pulled her into his embrace; she nestled against him obediently. He held her tightly and called for a rickshaw, heading towards the train station. 0

The night station showed no signs of desolation; it was still bustling with people. The expressions of those coming and going varied—some were parting with smiles, while others were reuniting with tears. She held a skewer of candied hawthorn that he had just bought for her, leaning against the wall as she watched the hurried crowd. 0

"The tickets are ready," he said, shaking the train ticket in his hand as he wrapped his arms around her. She leaned against him apologetically, "Buying tickets last minute must be expensive; those scalpers are ruthless." 0

"They all have to make a living," he comforted casually. As he spoke, the green train whistled by, its steam adding warmth to the cozy night. Some travelers who couldn't stand the heat had already begun fanning themselves with their hands. They navigated through the crowd and boarded the train smoothly. 0

After he placed their luggage securely, he realized Cheng Mosu was nowhere to be seen. After searching carefully, he found her at the end of the compartment. She had hurried away without taking anything with her, even forgetting to change clothes; the hem of her moonlit nightgown swayed gracefully in the breeze. He stepped forward and draped his military jacket over her shoulders. She turned back with a smile that was clear and transparent but carried a hint of sadness. 0

He lowered his voice and embraced her from behind, "Cheng Mosu, what are you thinking about?" 0

She gently shook her head, hiding her thoughts as her fingers intertwined and stirred in circles. After a while, she finally spoke: "Deputy Officer Shen sent a telegram asking you to return; is there something urgent?" 0

"He didn't say; just mentioned an incident." His voice came from above her head as if it were echoing from the heavens. 0

She nodded silently, unable to find any extra words to say. After a moment of silence, she softly asked, "What could be such a big deal?" 0

"I don't know; the future is all unknown." 0

"Are you not afraid?" Cheng Mo asked, somewhat surprised. If they faced another drastic change upon returning, would he be able to endure the pain of loss again? 0

Shangguan Shaoyi raised the corner of his mouth, exuding an air of confidence. Without him needing to answer, she understood his thoughts. He picked her up and carried her back to the private room, letting her sit on his lap. His tone was both vague and sincere, "Mo Su, actually, you are the bravest one." 0

She was taken aback for a moment, then tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and asked, "Why do you say that?" 0

Deep down, she understood clearly that upon returning, they might face unknown circumstances. Perhaps the Northeast had a new master by then, leaving them without a place to stay. But she wasn't brave; she simply believed that he would always protect her and not let anyone harm her in any way. That was why she appeared seemingly courageous. 0

"Are you hungry? I'll go see what there is to eat," he said, gently ruffling her hair. 0

She shook her head, holding onto his hand tightly like a child easily frightened. He sighed and gave in, wrapping his arm around her. Her eyes shimmered like rippling water, and her dark hair fell over his hand while a faint smile graced her lips. Neither of them spoke; their silence spoke louder than words. The air was filled with a gentle warmth that was intoxicating. After some time, he heard her voice, soft as a whisper, saying, "Shaoyi, you are all I have left." 0

A few days later, the rumbling train finally came to a stop at the station. The night in Feng Province shed the noise of the day and was covered by layers of clouds, creating a serene and beautiful scene. Shangguan Shaoyi tightly held Cheng Mo's hand as they got off the train. It felt slightly cooler here compared to Shanghai. He noticed she felt a bit cold and immediately took off his military jacket to drape it over her. 0

Not far away, Shen Mingliang was anxiously waiting. 0

"Deputy Officer Shen!" Shangguan Shaoyi said softly but with an unexpected authority. 0

"Young Marshal!" Shen Mingliang stood at attention and saluted, but his gaze lingered on Cheng Mo for a moment. "Miss Cheng has come too." 0

Cheng Mo nodded in acknowledgment, but Shen Mingliang appeared hesitant to speak further, which was quite strange. Shangguan Shaoyi didn't think much of it and asked, "What happened? Why are you so anxious?" 0

"This..." Shen Mingliang glanced awkwardly at Cheng Mo before struggling to find the words stuck in his throat, unable to form coherent syllables. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi frowned and urged Shen Mingliang to speak quickly, but Shen Mingliang still stammered, unable to utter a word. Cheng Mo sighed, tugged at Shangguan Shaoyi's sleeve, her eyes becoming even clearer. "Shaoyi, I'll head back to the residence first. You and Deputy Officer Shen can talk slowly." 0

"Alright!" Shen Mingliang's eyes suddenly brightened several times. "I'll have the driver take you home." 0

Cheng nodded and looked at Shangguan Shaoyi with a questioning gaze. Shangguan Shaoyi smiled helplessly, nodded at her, and leaned closer to her ear, saying, "You go back first; I'll return shortly." 0

Watching Cheng Mo's car drive away, Shangguan Shaoyi turned back to Shen Mingliang, his demeanor shifting from the gentle affection he had shown Cheng Mo to the cold, businesslike manner he usually displayed. He said sternly, "Now can we talk?" 0

"Yes!" Shen Mingliang bowed deeply again. "I have captured Yun Yun!" 0

Yun Yun?! Shangguan Shaoyi's pupils tightened as he asked, "Where is she?" 0

"She is locked in a secret chamber. Young Master, you guessed correctly; this Yun Yun is the woman in the purple-red qipao we've encountered." He paused and continued, "I've been interrogating her for two days, but she won't say a word and just keeps laughing. It's quite unsettling." 0

"Take me there." His gaze turned cold and resolute, his posture straight as a pine tree. "How did you find out all this?" 0

Shen Mingliang's eyes suddenly flickered with avoidance, and his dark skin showed hints of red. Shangguan Shaoyi's eyes fixed on him with a chilling intensity; though not bone-chilling coldness, it was still piercing. 0

He swallowed hard, closed his eyes, and said, "Young Master, actually I... with that Yun Yun..." 0
