Cheng Mo Su tightened the moonlight shawl around her shoulders. The dim yellow light cast a fluffy hue over her snow-white skin. She rubbed her swollen eyes, realizing it was already midnight, but Shaoyi still hadn't returned. He had been busy these past few days, and by the time he got home, she had already fallen asleep from exhaustion. It seemed like they hadn't seen each other for many days, and today she was determined to wait for him to come back. Cheng Mo Su gently shook her head, her gaze still fixed above, while her thoughts drifted elsewhere. 0

After an unknown amount of time, she vaguely heard the sound of a door opening. It was very quiet, almost indistinguishable unless one listened closely. Her heart raced, and she turned her gaze just in time to meet Shangguan Shaoyi's pitch-black eyes, both of them momentarily stunned. 0

"Mo Su, why are you still awake?" He frowned slightly as he stepped into her room. Noticing the book in her hands and the ink-scented paper and inkstone beside her, he took the book from her hands and ordered, "It's too late; you can read it tomorrow. Go to sleep first." 0

"It's not late." Cheng Mo Su hurriedly replied, her clear Water Eyes filled with gentle smiles. As long as she could see him, what did it matter if she stayed up a little later? 0

Shangguan Shaoyi understood perfectly why Cheng Mo Su was holding back her drowsiness to wait for him. He smiled slightly, and Cheng Mo Su responded with a serene smile that pierced his heart. All the fatigue from the past few days suddenly vanished. He tenderly rubbed Cheng Mo Su's reddened eyes and softly said, "Mo Su, I will be very busy for a while. I will come back late every day and sometimes even stay at the military camp. You don't have to wait for me. Once I'm done with this busy period, I'll take you back to Shanghai to propose." 0

Her face flushed slightly as she lowered her Eyes, "You make it sound like I'm in a hurry." She didn't look up but felt Shangguan Shaoyi's smile growing wider, making her feel even more embarrassed. "And who said I was waiting for you? I was just reading." 0

"Reading?" Shangguan Shaoyi glanced at the book and couldn't help but smile upon realizing it was still that same "Classic of Mountains and Seas" she had been reading for so long. Hearing his laughter made Cheng Mo Su's face turn even redder; she turned away defiantly and said, "I'm really reading! If you're staying at the military camp, then stay there properly; I won't care!" 0

"Alright then, if you don't care, I'll move over there right now." His face was full of smiles as he pretended to leave. 0

"Wait." Cheng Mo Su hurriedly reached out to grab him. The cool and soft touch of her hand on his sleeve made his heart feel light as a feather. He turned around to see Cheng Mo Su's Water Eyes glistening with tears, causing his heart to tremble. He quickly said, "I was just joking; why did you take it seriously?" 0

The corners of Cheng Mo Su's mouth lifted slightly; tears still shimmered in her eyes as she spoke softly and plaintively, "I know you're joking, but whenever I hear that kind of joke, I can't help but believe it..." Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, her gaze flickering. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi reached out and pulled her into his embrace, comforting her gently, "Alright, from now on I won't say anything you don't want to hear, okay?" Cheng Mo Su nodded with a smile. 0

"Go to sleep quickly; I need to rest too. Tomorrow I'll take a day off and take you out for a boat ride in the afternoon." He lightly kissed her forehead. 0

"What about in the morning?" Cheng Mo Su asked curiously. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi smiled gently, "In the morning I need to go to Uncle Rong's house to discuss that 'marriage contract' from years ago; I'll be back in the afternoon." 0

Cheng Mo Su's heart skipped a beat. Lowering her gaze, she thought for a moment and said, "Then I will go with you. After all, I am one of the parties involved; I can't just leave everything to you, right?" 0

Shangguan Shaoyi smiled gently, a hint of amusement at the corners of his mouth, and ruffled her hair. "Mo Su, I can handle this myself. But if you want to come along, that's fine too." 0

Cheng Mo Su smiled lightly, revealing two small dimples. "Then see you tomorrow morning." 0

"Alright." His tone was soft and indulgent. 0

The next day, Cheng Mo Su got up early and carefully chose a light lotus-colored stand-collar Qipao. She draped an icy silk shawl over her shoulders, left her hair down without tying it up, allowing the thick strands to fall to her waist. At her temple, she casually tucked in a pure white lily, and her Rose-Colored Lips complemented her snow-white skin. 0

As she turned to go downstairs, Shangguan Shaoyi's eyes brightened at the sight of her. 0

In her simplicity, there was elegance; in her tranquility, there was fragrance. 0

Cheng Mo Su felt shy under his gaze, her cheeks flushing even more. She linked her arm with Shangguan Shaoyi, and the ring on her ring finger sparkled brightly, seemingly reflecting the happiness that was about to overflow from her. 0

"Very good." His eyes were filled with uncontainable praise. She blushed and smiled shyly as they stepped out together, hand in hand into the car. 0

With a light smile, she leaned against his shoulder. "I've been in Feng Province for so long; it seems you haven't taken me around yet." 0

"What would you like to do, my lady?" Shangguan Shaoyi looked at her affectionate Water Eyes and asked with a smile. 0

Her face turned red as she released his arm and playfully retorted, "Who is your lady..." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi chuckled softly, knowing she was shy, so he stopped teasing her and pulled her into his embrace, letting her rest against his sturdy chest. 0

After a short while, they arrived at the Rong Family residence. 0

Cheng Mo took a moment to gather her thoughts. This was her second visit to the Rong Family, but her feelings were vastly different this time. She felt a tingling sensation throughout her body, soft and weak, perhaps due to her nervousness. She took a gentle breath, trying to calm herself. The hands beside her held her tightly; she was taken aback and looked up to meet Shangguan Shaoyi's intense gaze. He smiled at her, seemingly reassuring her that there was no need to be afraid because he was there. 0

With his presence, her mood lightened considerably as he led her into the Rong Residence. 0

Rong Hai had been waiting in the hall. Upon seeing the two enter, his expression turned serious for a moment before quickly returning to a smile. He gestured for the maid to fill their glasses with red wine. Cheng Mo smiled lightly, picked up the transparent crystal goblet, and looked at the bright red liquid inside, gently swirling it to let the rich aroma waft up to her nose. 0

"Xiao Lin, Miss Cheng, what brings you here today?" He likely understood why Shangguan Shaoyi was there and went straight to the point. "I guess you two are here regarding the marriage contract?" 0

"Uncle Rong is correct," Shangguan Shaoyi replied directly. "I have not formally signed a marriage contract with Yu Qiao; it was merely a verbal promise between our families. At that time, I was young and reckless, unaware of the world, following my father's words as my guideline. However," he glanced at Cheng Mo, smiling indulgently, "ever since I met Mo Su, I realized that she is the only one I wish to grow old with. I hope Uncle Rong can also consider Yu Qiao's happiness and dissolve the previous engagement." 0

Rong Hai took a sip of red wine, and the air filled with silence, causing Cheng Mo to feel a bit uneasy again. Fortunately, Shangguan Shaoyi continued holding her hand, transferring warmth from his palm to her heart. 0

After a while, Rong Hai slowly spoke up. "Xiao Lin, I must thank you first. After all, since no formal marriage contract was established back then, you need not come here to discuss this; we could simply consider that engagement nonexistent. Since you are here, it shows your respect for me, and I must respect you in return." He glanced at Cheng Mo, who appeared elegant and serene, truly different from typical wealthy young ladies. 0

"But you know Yu Qiao has always been fond of you. If you can persuade Yu Qiao, I will naturally agree." 0

Cheng Mo was taken aback and smiled slightly; it was impossible for Rong Hai to shift the responsibility onto Yu Qiao for consent. Seeing Cheng Mo's charming dimples, Rong Hai smiled again. "Xiao Lin, if you don't mind, may I have a private conversation with Miss Cheng?" 0

Both Cheng Mo and Shangguan Shaoyi stiffened at this request and exchanged glances. 0
