"That's the one we caught before," I replied. "Later, Li Dangshi said he was innocent, so I let him go."
"Oh!" Mou Xiaoning suddenly understood. "You're talking about him! I remember, of course!"
"Where is he now?" I asked.
"He should be locked up in the storage room of the Secret Intelligence Bureau," Mou Xiaoning answered. "I saw him a few days ago."
"I see," I said. "Go bring him to me; I want to have a chat with him."
"Yes!" Mou Xiaoning responded and turned to leave.
I looked out the window, lost in thought.
What kind of person is Zou Tianyi?
If he is indeed the innocent victim that Li Dangshi mentioned, then why is he involved in my case?
If not, then why would Li Dangshi want to protect him? Is it just because Zou Tianyi is from Xia Yin Bank? That seems a bit illogical.
I increasingly feel that Zou Tianyi might be useful. At the very least, he could help me with something.
As for what I want him to do, I haven't figured that out yet.
Well, let's meet first and see how it goes.
Zou Tianyi feels like he might not have much time left.
Since being captured by the Secret Intelligence Bureau, he had been locked in this dark and cramped storeroom.
Every day, he ate, drank, and relieved himself in this small space, which was filled with the stench of decay and rot, making him feel nauseous.
When he was captured, his right hand was severely burned, and it had not been treated since; his entire right hand was swollen like a pig's trotter, causing him excruciating pain every day.
Locked up with him was a guy called Scarred Eye.
Scarred Eye's injuries were even worse than his; he spent most of the day in a deep sleep.
Yet even so, every meal time, Scarred Eye would snatch his food away to eat.
He could only go hungry.
Every day, he lived in hunger and despair, the only reason keeping him alive was the interrogations.
He always felt that as long as someone came to interrogate him, there was still a glimmer of hope.
Finally, today, he got his chance.
"Zou Tianyi." A young guard walked in, called out his name, and then turned to leave.
"Yes! It's me!" Zou Tianyi struggled to get up and stumbled out of the storeroom.
"My lord! Please spare me!" As soon as Zou Tianyi saw me, he knelt down and kept bowing his head.
"What is your name?" I asked.
"Answering your question, my name is Zou Tianyi, and I am from Xia Yin Bank," Zou Tianyi replied.
"When did you start following Lin Mautsai?" I asked.
"I came to Nanjiang last year," Zou Tianyi answered. "I got into some trouble back home, and had no choice but to come to Nanjiang. It was Mr. Lin who took me in and let me work at Xia Yin Bank."
"Where is your hometown?" I inquired.
"Yingzhou," Zou Tianyi replied.
"Since you're from Yingzhou, how did you end up in Nanjiang?" I asked.
"My lord," Zou Tianyi said with a bitter smile, "I came here for a living. Mr. Lin said that as long as I worked with him, I would be able to make a lot of money in the future, so I followed him here."
"What kind of work do you do for him?" I asked.
"Well..." Zou Tianyi hesitated for a moment before answering, "I help Mr. Lin collect debts, go to other places to seize territory for him, and also... help him vent his anger."
"How do you vent his anger?" I asked.
"For example, if someone from another place provokes Mr. Lin, he would have me take people to beat them up," Zou Tianyi replied.
