At midnight, I was busy organizing books in the library. Just then, a tattered old notebook without a label fell out from among the dusty old books. I bent down to pick up the worn notebook, my hands trembling. The cover prominently displayed two words: " 顧墨." I was so startled that I almost cried out. Is this my diary? How did it end up over here in the library? I shouted, "Old Li!"
Old Li slowly walked over, his thick glasses unable to hide the shrewdness in his eyes. He looked at the diary in my hand and said slowly, "Perhaps this is a key to open the door to a new world." "A key to another world." I was a bit confused and opened the first page of the diary. "Year 2023, City of Forgotten." "A great disaster is approaching."
I frowned and asked, "Is this some kind of novel plot?" Old Li looked serious and replied, "Just keep reading." I casually flipped to the next page, my eyes widening. The words and drawings seemed to come alive, dancing before me. A mysterious city hidden behind reality. A catastrophe about to unfold silently.
I saw people running in panic, blood splattering, flames spreading down the entire street, and a man wearing a black hat standing at the edge of the city, coldly observing everything. I couldn't help but shiver. I quickly turned the page and asked, "Is this real or fake? And are these contents from a novel or actual events?"
Old Li shook his head, "I can't figure it out either."
"But it's definitely not an ordinary historical story."
"The forgotten city might be right around us."
I looked up and saw a large pane of glass at the top of the bookshelf.
Outside the glass was a quiet midnight; under the dim streetlights, I could barely see a single silhouette.
I murmured softly, "So, is what we're looking at something that happened in the past, or is it a storm that will happen in the future?"
Old Li nodded, "Perhaps this unfortunate disaster hasn't even begun yet."
"We need to quickly figure out what secrets this diary holds."
As soon as he finished speaking, the lights in the library flickered suddenly.
Old Li jumped up in fright, "Everyone be careful; we might not be the first ones to discover this secret."
I felt a surge of anxiety.
Could someone be secretly following us?
After that, Old Li and I buried our heads directly into the mysterious diary, not daring to relax for a moment.
We ran around the library, searching for anything related to the City of Forgotten, but all the clues were vague, as if someone were playing tricks on us, leaving us dizzy.
I was growing increasingly anxious inside.
We had to find the City of Forgotten quickly.
"Gu Mo, come look at this!" Old Li suddenly pulled out a yellowed map from a corner, looking quite excited.
I hurried over and saw that the map was filled with many strange symbols.
These symbols were identical to those in the diary.
I picked up the map and exclaimed happily, "Old Li, these markings are really the same!"
Old Li was also very pleased and nodded repeatedly, "It seems this map might just be the key to finding the City of Forgotten."
I suppressed my excitement and slowly unfolded the map.
Then we began to compare and study each marking against those in the diary one by one.
But the more we research, the more headaches we get.
