The path up the mountain was too boring, with twists and turns here and there. Climbing was a piece of cake for everyone; their stamina was more than enough. However, the silence made Lu Sha feel quite gloomy.
"The rain falls all night, my love overflows like the rain..."
A soft voice came from behind, growing clearer. Liu Xuan was at the back of the group, unknowingly chewing on a clover and humming a song by his favorite idol.
I have to say, the lyrics were quite fitting for the moment.
Lu Sha seemed to see a glimmer of hope and stopped to wait for Liu Xuan to catch up. However, when Liu Xuan noticed she had stopped, he also halted in his tracks.
With her hands on her hips, Lu Sha glared at Liu Xuan and asked, "Do I smell like body odor?"
Liu Xuan had no choice but to walk over to her side to prove that she did not.
"Feeling better?" Lu Sha pulled him closer as if he were a brother. "Talk to me; who are we to each other?"
"Oh—right. If your Xiao Ma sees us, are you going to kneel on a washboard? No worries, I've got your back. I'll just say I made the first move; how does that sound?"
Liu Xuan let her pull him in; it felt wrong not to. But if he resisted, it felt wrong too. He couldn't help but chuckle internally and said, "Much better. With you around, how could it not be?"
"That's good." Lu Sha laughed and released Liu Xuan's shoulder. Liu Xuan also secretly revealed a hint of his bright smile.
A chain reaction often occurs in groups—when someone suddenly speaks up among a silent crowd, others tend to follow suit.
The Celestial Warriors were no exception.
The other three turned around to see the two young ones joking together. Especially when Liu Xuan smiled, they felt somewhat relieved—after all, Sasa was known for being the life of the party and had managed to make Liu Xuan laugh.
" Sister Jiao An, don’t rush in blindly next time; it’s too dangerous. If you had fallen earlier, even the gods couldn't have saved you."
Qin Weishan and Jiao An unknowingly walked side by side, both looking down at the rainwater flowing down the gravel path.
Jiao An gently asked Qin Weishan, "Weishan…"
"Yes?"
"Do you think I’m useless in this alliance?"
"No… how could that be?"
"Then give me an example."
"For instance, when I charge in, I need you to cover me; otherwise, I wouldn't even know how I died. Also, we've practiced many combo moves; we just haven't had the chance to use them…"
"That’s all about us." Jiao An looked up at Qin Weishan's profile. "When facing those superpowered individuals, I really feel helpless. You guys can charge into battle while I can only shoot from behind you. Plus, I don’t have Sasa’s self-healing ability; if I get hit even once, you'd be visiting my grave… I really am…"
"I don’t have that either." Qin Weishan smiled. "Jiao An, you're a big sister; be more confident. Just based on your shooting skills and endurance—thanks to your cover fire—from past military operations to now with The Celestial Warriors Alliance, hasn’t everyone always come back safe?"
"In this alliance, everyone is irreplaceable."
Jiao An's mind was filled with the scene of being knocked away by Miao Chengmin with a single palm strike. She took a deep breath and exhaled like smoke, remaining silent.
"Don't worry, you're amazing. I know you better than you know yourself," Qin Weishan confidently patted his chest.
Jiao An couldn't hold back any longer; she shook her body and said, "Ha! I don't believe it. Give me an example?"
"Do you really want to hear it?"
"I really don't believe you." Jiao An grabbed Qin Weishan's arm and said, "Today, you won't win against me, so just wait to be kicked."
Xu Yicheng was walking behind them while watching an academic report. When he saw the two in front suddenly stop, he quickly hit the brakes.
Qin Weishan rolled his eyes at Jiao An and said, "Do you know what time it is?"
Jiao An was taken aback and didn't quite understand what he meant.
"You don't know, do you?" Qin Weishan broke free from her grip and started running.
"Foolish Qin!" Jiao An shouted, her loud voice echoing through the valley.
"Foolish Qin... dog... dog..."
The echo grew fainter as it traveled further away, reaching the ears of the sleeping corpses deep in the forest. Miao Chengmin had not been sleeping well; although it was just a very faint sound to them, any noise in the desolate mountains could indicate trouble.
Miao Chengmin stood up and looked around the bend of the mountain path.
"They're finally here."
An Xiaotian opened the rearview mirror of his helmet and watched as his brother was kicked into a ditch by the woman he liked, unable to suppress his laughter.
"Do you think they look like a couple, Xiao Ling?"
"They resemble you and Madame Yang quite a bit," Xiao Ling replied Tsongtsong ly.
"You're hopeless," An Xiaotian said, speechless.
"I'm alive, you know."
"It seems I need to ask Dr. Chen to uninstall your adorable voice system."
"Are you dissatisfied with my voice? Xiao Ling can switch to loli voice, mature lady voice, or even Madame Yang's custom voice."
"..."
If this were a real person, An Xiaotian would have wanted to send them skyward with a laser beam.
"Hmm?" An Xiaotian noticed there was no path ahead; someone had blocked the way with a pile of branches. Moreover, there were two off-road vehicles parked nearby.
An Xiaotian looked at the map and concluded that they should continue forward; it was definitely someone who drove here and maliciously blocked the way.
An Xiaotian extended an arm and used a laser to burn a large opening in the pile of branches, and everyone prepared to walk through.
"How could there be a car here?" Xu Yicheng asked.
"That's a police car," Jiao An pointed to the two beige SUVs.
Xu Yicheng glanced at them and raised an eyebrow at Jiao An.
Jiao An knew Xu Yicheng didn't believe him, so he quickly pulled out his silenced dual pistols, expertly racked the slides, and tossed up two magazines. Then, Jiao An crossed his arms holding the guns, and surprisingly, both magazine openings perfectly aligned with the falling magazines.
The grips of the two guns clashed together with a "bang," and the magazines slid right in; this fluid motion truly amazed Xu Yicheng—so fast!
"Uh... do you really need to show off like that to a bookworm who can't handle guns?" Xu Yicheng asked.
"She's used to it; you should get used to it too," Qin Weishan added.
"I was showing you the cars," Jiao An didn't answer his question but raised his dual guns towards the two vehicles, firing once. The effect was immediate; the electronic camouflage on both vehicles began to flicker and disappear, revealing their true police car forms.
"Oh—" Xu Yicheng suddenly understood, "This thing is still my specialty."
"Let's go, everyone," Liu Xuan and Lu Sha had already moved ahead, and the three hurried to catch up.
When the five gathered together, they realized that their guide, An Xiaotian, was missing.
"What do we do now?" Lu Sha tugged at Liu Xuan's sleeve, "He won't get into trouble, will he?"
"Impossible," Liu Xuan signaled to Jiao An, who nodded and took down the Fate Conqueror from her back, starting a magnified scan of the area ahead.
As everyone watched expectantly, Jiao An slowly lowered her gun, clearly shocked.
"He’s up ahead... arguing with someone."
"Huh?" Everyone exclaimed in confusion simultaneously.
In the destroyed graveyard, An Xiaotian stated firmly, "I’ll repeat myself; we are a national top-secret special forces unit with the authority to request you preserve evidence at the scene and leave." He projected his Special Forces Soldier ID hologram.
"Tch!" The chubby man swatted away the holographic image, "Do you have a paper version? How do we know you didn't forge this? Why should we listen to you just because you're hiding behind some metal armor? We're the police!"
The chubby man pointed at his colleagues behind him and poked at An Xiaotian's energy core with his finger.
An Xiaotian looked down at him unflinchingly and said, "If you want to live, get out of here quickly; there are ghosts."
"Right, right! There are no ghosts in a graveyard; where would there be ghosts? Let me ask you," the chubby man scoffed disdainfully.
The five quickly arrived under Jiao An's lead. When those police officers saw Jiao An holding a gun, they immediately became alert and aimed their weapons at them. Jiao An did not back down either and aimed her gun at the chubby man.
"Is this your team?" the fat man observed carefully.
"Didn't you receive orders from above?" An Xiaotian asked.
The fat man was about to retort when he suddenly felt a chill run down his back. Immediately, a chilling song echoed from the nearby forest, the sound particularly piercing, alternating from the left and right as if responding to one another.
"Wha... what is that?" The fat man was already starting to feel weak in the knees.
An Xiaotian glanced around and immediately pushed the fat man, saying, "Quickly take your brothers and go! Hurry up! Don't be so stubborn next time!"
As the fat man ran while shouting "Yes, yes, yes," he abandoned his gun and dragged his brothers away in a scramble.
"Phew." Jiao An let out a sigh of relief, but still held tightly onto the gun handle. Everyone formed their positions, ready to face any potential enemies.
Once those people had run far away, the singing stopped, and the surrounding bushes began to stir.
"Miao Chengmin?" Nars logged in and suddenly shouted towards the bushes above An Xiaotian's head.
Indeed, there was a response; a bolt of black lightning struck down from above, landing in front of An Xiaotian.
"How did you know it was me?" Miao Chengmin asked.
"Uh, it wasn't me who called you. Nars," An Xiaotian pointed to his comrades behind him.
From both sides of the bushes, numerous Spirit Corps emerged. Unlike the Soulless who made a ruckus, they stood in two neat rows, hands pressed against their thighs, facing The Celestial Warriors.
The Celestial Warriors, who had just thought they were surrounded, suddenly found themselves treated as honored guests, leaving them quite astonished.
"How amazing," Lu Sha and others curiously examined the Spirit Corps. Lu Sha noticed that a few of the Spirit Corps appeared to be female.
Tilting her head, Lu Sha tentatively waved her hand. To her surprise, several female Spirit Corps bowed in response! They smiled back at Lu Sha and said, "Welcome, little beauty!"
"Ah! Oh my!" Lu Sha covered her mouth with her hands, her eyes wide open—she was no longer afraid of zombies.
"They're complimenting you as 'little beauty,'" Jiao An also smiled and saluted them.
"Wow," Qin Weishan exclaimed in astonishment.
"The miracle of life. This is the power of the universe," Xu Yicheng remarked with emotion.
The time portal opened, and Aibo emerged dragging an anchor. Standing behind everyone, he cautiously surveyed the surroundings and said, "Aibo reporting."
Seeing so many new faces, Miao Chengmin's dusty gray face broke into a faint smile as he saluted An Xiaotian and said:
"Welcome, my Earth friends. I have known that the gods are coming; therefore, I have been here with many Spirit Corps waiting for some time."
