Due to the recent dry weather, and the frequent passage of horses and carriages on the main road, the roadside was always covered in yellow dust.
In a teahouse by the roadside, a White-Clad Youth was drinking tea from a bowl while conversing with the Shop Owner, trying to gather some information. The youth was none other than Li Rui.
"Old man, what is the name of that mountain to the south?" Li Rui wiped the tea stains from the corner of his mouth and asked.
"The one to the south?" The only shop owner, an elderly man, put down the firewood he was holding and thought for a moment. Suddenly, his face turned pale as if he remembered something terrifying. "Is it the first mountain you see if you walk straight from here?"
"That's right," Li Rui was puzzled as to why the owner seemed so frightened. "What's wrong with that mountain?"
"Are you planning to go up there for training?" Upon hearing this, Li Rui nodded. The owner sighed and picked up the firewood from the ground. "That mountain is called Wuhui Mountain. It's very dangerous; if you're training, it's best not to go."
"In what way is it dangerous, old man?" Li Rui's curiosity was piqued by the elder's words.
"Wuhui Mountain, Wuhui Mountain, it's a mountain where one goes but never returns. No one can reach it except for immortals," the owner shook his head. "A long time ago—back when I was young—I occasionally heard elders talk about it. They said there are man-eating monsters on that mountain, and many people who went up to gather herbs never came back down. Since then, no one has dared to go up there."
"I see," Li Rui pondered for a moment and then stood up to pay for his tea. "Thank you, shopkeeper. I have to go now."
The owner looked up in surprise at Li Rui. "You... are you really going to Wuhui Mountain?"
"I'm just going to take a look," Li Rui smiled. "If there's any danger, I'll come down in time."
"Sigh..." The owner accepted the tea money from Li Rui, shaking his head without saying more.
Li Rui would not easily change his plans based on one person's words. After the owner took the money, he turned and headed toward Wuhui Mountain.
Although it felt close to see the mountain from the teahouse, it still took Li Rui quite some time to walk there.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Li Rui looked at the towering mountain before him. From the base of the mountain, he could only see lush green trees; looking higher up revealed nothing distinct.

However, the medicinal properties, or Spiritual Power, within it were inversely proportional to its size. The larger the mushroom, the more abundant its energy. Li Rui had never seen a medicinal mushroom before; he didn't expect to find one right after arriving at Wuhui Mountain. This one looked to be at least two or three hundred years old. Li Rui carefully pulled the mushroom from the ground and placed it into a jade box, afraid that its medicinal power would dissipate.
Then Li Rui casually scanned his surroundings—
“Zhi Lan Grass!”
“Jade Face Fruit!”
“Centennial Flower!”
“......”
At first, Li Rui collected each herb into the jade box, but soon he stopped doing so.
The mountains here were filled with Spiritual Herbs; if he collected them one by one, he would need an enormous number of boxes!
So eventually, Li Rui only put herbs that were over five hundred years old into the jade box, tossing those younger than five hundred directly into his storage bag.
If other alchemists saw Li Rui's actions here, they would be furious. Although these herbs weren't considered high-grade, they were still quite rare. To them, Li Rui's decision to toss these herbs into his storage ring because he was running out of space in his jade box would seem like throwing away pearls while keeping the shell.
As Li Rui gathered herbs, he felt an increasing chill and moved toward its source. After more than ten minutes, he noticed that as the chill intensified, the surrounding herbs became scarcer. In the end, it took him quite some time to find just one or two Spiritual Herbs. However, rather than feeling disheartened, Li Rui was pleased because he knew that high-grade Spiritual Herbs generally wouldn’t coexist with many other Spiritual Herbs. The sparse distribution confirmed his judgment—there was indeed a high-grade Spiritual Herb nearby.
However, Li Rui wasn't in a hurry to find that Spiritual Herb just yet. He dug a small cave at the bottom of a steep slope on the mountain as a place for future cultivation. He blocked the entrance with stones, leaving only a small opening for one person to pass through and covered it with some vines.
After completing these tasks, Li Rui began to earnestly search for that high-grade Spiritual Herb.
Finally, after following the cold air for two or three minutes, he found a large cave. Although sunlight illuminated the entrance, ice had already formed inside.
Li Rui cautiously approached the icy wall and walked in. Not far inside, he saw a completely frozen hall with an ice-blue herb at its center, gradually emanating cold air.
Li Rui was overjoyed and was about to reach out to collect the Spiritual Herb when an ominous feeling suddenly struck him. He quickly dodged to the side. In the next second, the spot where Li Rui had been standing shattered into pieces, sending chills down his spine.
A Demon Beast, over ten meters tall, stood coldly staring at Li Rui in the very spot he had just occupied.
As the Demon Beast scrutinized Li Rui, he was also assessing the creature. What shocked Li Rui was that the aura of this Demon Beast was significantly stronger than his own; it was just that for some reason, it seemed weakened now, though still stronger than Li Rui.

The Demon Beast seemed to have realized this as well. After a moment of silence, it spoke: "I know you want this herb. I can make a deal with you."

"Don't have any other thoughts; I am the guardian beast of the Spiritual Herb. Unless I agree, if I die, the Spiritual Herb will wither as well."
Li Rui carefully considered the pros and cons and ultimately found the Spiritual Herb more appealing than the Cloud Swallowing Beast or its offspring. Thus, he nodded: "Deal."
