Chapter 58
Qiao Qiran didn't want to make me sad and intentionally tried to cheer me up.
"I'll tell you a joke."
"A dragonfly broke its wing, but it still flew up. Do you know why?"
I looked at him with a dull gaze. "Because it's strong."
Qiao Qiran's mouth twitched. "Isn't that funny at all?"
I shook my head.
"Hey, why aren't you happy yet?"
"I called Lu Weize all afternoon, and he didn't answer."
"He might be busy."
"What could he possibly be busy with?" I panicked. "Do you think something really happened to him?"
"It shouldn't be the case. It's just cheating; it's not like he committed murder or arson. What could happen?" Qiao Qiran reassured me. "Besides, Lu Weize's family is so influential that the school wouldn't dare do anything to him."
After hearing Qiao Qiran's words, I felt a little more at ease.
I took a sip of milk tea and prepared for the interview in the afternoon.
...
The interview time arrived.
Just as I was about to go in, I suddenly received a call from Lu Weize.
Lu Weize asked, "Did you find out?"
I: "..."
Qiao Qiran stared at me as I rushed out of the interview room, stunned.
He hung up the phone and exclaimed, "What the hell!"
My interview lasted only five minutes before I burst out with tears streaming down my face.
Qiao Qiran chased me to the bathroom door, banging on it forcefully. "Lin Chu, open the door!"
Inside the bathroom, I sat in the corner, hugging my knees, shaking as I cried.
Lu Weize was singing on the phone.
He was singing the song I performed at the New Year's Eve party.
The boy's voice was clear and deep, filled with sincerity.
"...Even if it's pouring rain, I'll smile through my tears. I've learned to face it bravely, even if my heart is broken, I will still smile sweetly..."
After finishing, he asked, "Does it sound good?"
I replied with a choked voice, "It sounds good."
"Don't cry," Lu Weize said. "I'm fine."
I wiped my tears and responded, "Okay."
"Good girl."
After hanging up the phone, I dried my tears, got up from the floor, and turned on the faucet to wash my face.
Looking at myself in the mirror, my gaze gradually became resolute.
Qiao Qiran waited anxiously outside the door, fearing that I might do something foolish.
When I opened the door, Qiao Qiran was taken aback, as he saw a familiar look in my eyes.
It was the look that belonged to Lu Weize.
"Where are you going?" Qiao Qiran asked.
I didn’t answer and walked toward the classroom at the end of the corridor.
Qiao Qiran quickly followed me.
Outside the classroom, I ran into Lu Weize and Qin Xiao.
"Did you do this?" Lu Weize asked.
Qin Xiao sneered, "So what if I did?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Lu Weize punched him in the face.
Chapter 59
"Lu Weize, what the hell are you doing?"
Qiao Qiran's angry voice came through.
I stopped in my tracks and turned around, staring blankly at Qiao Qiran.
Qiao Qiran was holding his phone, his expression a mix of anger and worry. "Are you satisfied now that Lin Chu failed her interview?"
Lu Weize was silent for a moment, his voice dry. "Did she cry?"
"How can you even ask that?" Qiao Qiran shouted furiously. "If it weren't for your cheating, how would Qin Xiao target you? How would Lin Chu get involved?"
Lu Weize remained silent.
After a long while, he said softly, "Give the phone to Lin Chu."
Qiao Qiran took a deep breath to calm down before handing me the phone: "Here."
I took the phone and held it to my ear: "Lu Weize..."
Lu Weize chuckled lightly, "Why are you crying again?"
"I'm not crying." I raised my hand to wipe away my tears.
Lu Weize's voice was gentle yet firm: "Lin Chu, remember, no matter what difficulties you face, don't give up."
"Even if it's pouring rain, I'll smile through my tears. I've learned to face things bravely, and even if my heart breaks, I will smile sweetly..."
He began to sing.
This song was the one I sang at the New Year's Eve party.
The boy's voice was clear and deep, and he sang earnestly.
"...Dreams illuminate the path of life; I have never been alone on my journey of growth. After falling and crying, I will still stride forward."
After finishing, he asked, "Was it good?"
I replied with a choked voice, "It was good."
"Don't cry anymore," Lu Weize said. "I'm fine."
"Mm." I wiped my tears and said, "Lu Weize, I'm fine."
After hanging up the phone, I returned the device to Qiao Qiran.
Qiao Qiran looked at me in confusion. "Where are you going?"
"To book a flight."
"???"
"I'm going back to Luzhou."
I looked at Qiao Qiran with determination in my eyes. "I want to go back and be with him."
...
In the following days, Lu Weize did not appear.
I asked Zhao Xinghai and learned that Lu Weize had been punished for cheating and was sent home for reflection.
Upon hearing this, I was furious. "Qin Xiao is the real culprit!"
Qiao Qiran nodded. "Yeah, if it weren't for him, how could Lu Weize have been framed?"
I looked at Qiao Qiran. "I need to find evidence for him."
"Huh?" Qiao Qiran was taken aback. "You want to find evidence? How will you do that?"
"I don't know," I replied, "but I don't want him to be slandered like this."
Under the setting sun, the girl's beautiful face showed a rare determination.
Qiao Qiran stared at her for a long time before chuckling lightly. "You really do resemble Lu Weize a bit."
I called Lu Weize.
"Lu Weize, I want to see you."
Lu Weize agreed.
He took a shower, changed his clothes, tidied up his room, and then went out to meet me.
"Now that the exam is over, let's go celebrate with something delicious," Lu Weize said, ruffling my hair. "What do you want to eat?"
I looked at him and didn't say anything.
Lu Weize felt a bit uncomfortable under my gaze. "What's wrong?"
I lowered my eyes, biting my lip, unsure of how to comfort him.
Lu Weize smiled and held my hand. "I'm really okay."
"Lu Weize..." I sniffed, "You must be very sad, and I can't help you at all..."
Lu Weize pulled me into his arms, stroking my hair. "Don't overthink it."
He walked me back to the dormitory. At the bottom of the dorm building, I held his hand tightly, reluctant to let go. "Will you come to school? Please?"
Lu Weize nodded. "Okay."
It wasn't time yet.
Before leaving, I hugged him tightly, as if holding onto a furnace.
Chapter 60
The sun was setting in the west.
In the suburbs, the afterglow of the sunset painted the sky red.
Qiao Qiran was driving, taking me to Thirteen Middle School.
On the way, Qiao Qiran curiously asked, "Are you close with Wang Ming?"
"..." I shook my head, "I've only seen him once."
Qiao Qiran looked even more puzzled, "You've only seen him once, and you're sure he will help you?"
"..." I fell silent again.
Seeing that I didn't want to say more, Qiao Qiran stopped asking.
Soon, we arrived at Thirteen Middle School.
There were still a few minutes until school let out, so we sat in the car waiting.
Finally, the school bell rang.
Students began to come out one after another. Among them was a boy wearing black-rimmed glasses, with a refined appearance and pale skin. He walked with his gaze fixed straight ahead, not looking at anyone but focusing on his own toes.
"Wang Ming!"
I got out of the car and called out to him.
The boy stopped in his tracks, glanced at me without saying a word, then lowered his head and continued walking.
I quickly got back in the car. "Qiao Qiran, follow him."
Qiao Qiran drove and followed Wang Ming to a riverbank.
Wang Ming stopped and turned to look at me.
I got out of the car and walked up to Wang Ming, naturally sitting down beside him. "Wang Ming, I need you to do me a favor."
Wang Ming didn't say anything, just quietly looked at me.
I briefly recounted the circumstances of Lu Weize being framed.
After listening, Wang Ming thought for a moment. "I can't guarantee that I'll find direct evidence of Qin Xiao framing Lu Weize, but we can try approaching it from other angles."
My eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Yeah," Wang Ming nodded. "I can help you find Qin Xiao's dark history, but it will be quite expensive."
I smiled. "No problem, just tell me how much you want."
Wang Ming looked puzzled. "Aren't you afraid I'll ask for an outrageous amount?"
"I'm not worried," I shook my head. "I'll pay whatever you ask."
"..." Wang Ming was silent for a moment. "You don't need to pay that much; just a thousand yuan will do."
I was shocked. "A thousand?"
"..." Wang Ming frowned. "Is that too expensive?"
"No!" I stood up excitedly. "I know you're the famous Hacker Red A. I thought it would cost a lot to hire you, but I didn't expect it to be only a thousand! That's such a bargain!"
Wang Ming: "..."
Qiao Qiran: "......"
......
Leaving the riverbank, Qiao Qiran couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure he is Red A?"
"Absolutely," I nodded firmly.
Qiao Qiran still found it hard to believe.
Back at school, I called Lu Weize.
"Lu Weize, I bought the paint, I'm heading back now."
Lu Weize chuckled lightly, "Looks like I have to rely on you to support me."
I huffed, "I can't afford it; I'm breaking up with you!"
Lu Weize smiled, "No break-up."
"Why not?"
"Because..." Lu Weize stretched out the word, "I can't bear to."
I laughed. When I looked up, I suddenly saw a familiar black Mercedes parked at the school gate.
It was Lu Weize's mother, Zhao Min.
