The Unexpected Appearance of Liu Piaopiao
During our days on the frontier, I, Zhang Xiaofan, and Li Mubai indeed thrived, becoming heroes in the eyes of many. However, just as we were enjoying this glory, a mysterious woman—Liu Piaopiao—appeared before us, bringing with her a unique medicinal scent and a bag full of peculiar herbs.
Liu Piaopiao, her name as light and mysterious as her arrival. She was tall and graceful, moving as if each step danced to the rhythm of the wind. Her bright, deep-set eyes sparkled with wisdom, as if she could see through all the secrets of the world. Her long hair flowed like a waterfall over her shoulders, gently swaying in the breeze, exuding an indescribable charm.
She approached me with a smile and said, “Zhang Xiaofan, I’ve heard you have good medical skills; I’d like to ask you something.” I felt a stir in my heart; this woman's appearance was certainly not simple. “Miss Liu, you’ve come all this way; there must be something on your mind. Just say it, what is it?”
Liu Piaopiao's smile held a hint of playfulness. “It’s not really a consultation; I’m just curious about how you can use smoke to repel enemies.” I thought to myself: Liu Piaopiao seems to know quite a bit about me; who exactly is she?
Not long after, an epidemic suddenly broke out in the military camp, and many fell ill, leaving me at a loss for what to do. At that moment, Liu Piaopiao stepped forward with a calm and determined voice: “Zhang Xiaofan, let me give it a try.” She brewed a potion using those strange herbs, and surprisingly, it worked wonders; everyone recovered.
I felt a surge of admiration for her. “Miss Liu, your prescription is incredible!” Liu Piaopiao smiled lightly, her expression carrying a touch of mystery and pride. “This is my family’s ancestral recipe; being able to help today is also its blessing.”
However, the source of the epidemic had yet to be found, and I sensed that things were not so simple. Liu Piaopiao revealed a terrifying fact: “Zhang Xiaofan, I’m afraid this epidemic was deliberately caused by someone.” I was taken aback. “Could there be an insider?” Liu Piaopiao nodded, her eyes revealing concern. “I suspect it might be remnants of the enemy country who are unwilling to accept defeat and resorted to such underhanded tactics.”
I thought: This place is not as peaceful as I imagined. I needed to quickly identify the troublemaker and prevent further harm. Thus, Li Mubai, Liu Piaopiao, and I began our investigation together. After some effort, we finally uncovered the traitor—an old minister from the enemy country who had disguised himself as one of our soldiers to secretly spread the disease.
Under the cover of night, we captured him. During interrogation, he confessed his crimes and revealed an even greater conspiracy—the enemy's national master was not truly loyal; he was planning something big.
A heaviness settled in my heart; this national master truly had endless schemes. Li Mubai gripped his sword tightly, his eyes filled with determination. “Xiaofan, this time we must join forces to eradicate this malignant tumor completely.” Liu Piaopiao also resolutely stated: “Zhang Xiaofan, I will do my utmost to help you.” I thought: This matter is far from over. However, with Liu Piaopiao's involvement, I believed we could overcome any challenges ahead.
Liu Piaopiao's presence not only brought us new hope but also strengthened our team significantly. Her wisdom, courage, and medical skills made us see her in a new light. I believe that as long as we unite as one, there will be no difficulty we cannot overcome.
07 Life-and-Death Struggle on the Edge
Originally, the three of us planned to join forces against the foreign wizard's grand scheme, but suddenly the situation at the border changed. That foreign wizard seemed to have received help from supernatural powers; his magic grew stronger, even allowing him to control the weather, causing great trouble at the border.
During a heavy rainstorm, our camp was left in ruins, and many people were left homeless. I, along with Li Mubai and Liu Piaopiao, ran around with medical and rescue teams to save those in distress.
In this process, my relationship with Liu Piaopiao gradually improved. Her intelligence, bravery, and kindness endeared her to me, while my concern for others and passion for medicine made her see me in a new light. One night during a rescue operation, we sat in a tent discussing plans, and our eyes revealed a different kind of feeling.
I thought to myself: "Liu Piaopiao is not just my partner; she is someone I like."
However, just as our feelings were warming up, the foreign wizard's conspiracy reached its climax. He actually summoned a gigantic monster with his magic, charging straight toward our camp. Faced with this sudden danger, the three of us had to set aside personal feelings and fight desperately to protect the civilians and our camp.
In an intense battle, Li Mubai led the charge against the monster. Liu Piaopiao and I relied on our medical skills and quick thinking to find the monster's weaknesses. After a fierce struggle, we finally discovered its Achilles' heel—there was a scar on its heart, which was its only weakness.
I shouted to Li Mubai: "Mubai, strike its heart; that's its weak point!"
Upon hearing this, Li Mubai's eyes shone with determination as he swung his sword forcefully toward the monster's heart. In a critical moment, the sword pierced through the monster's heart; it let out a loud roar before collapsing dead.
After the battle ended, the three of us stood beside the monster's corpse, our gazes meeting with complex emotions. Li Mubai patted my shoulder and said, "Xiaofan, you and Liu are both impressive. This victory is thanks to all of us."
Liu Piaopiao looked at me affectionately and said, "Zhang Xiaofan, this experience has made me more certain that you are someone trustworthy."
I thought: "This battle was not just about winning or losing; it was also a catalyst for our feelings."
Just as I was thinking about how to celebrate our victory properly, shocking news reached us— that foreign wizard had secretly infiltrated the palace with the goal of targeting the emperor!
We exchanged glances, all understanding that what lay ahead would be a tough battle. But we also knew that no matter how many difficulties awaited us, we had to brace ourselves and move forward to protect our country and people.
