Chapter 16
In the evening, I spent the whole night drawing in the classroom.
I only left the classroom when the dormitory was about to close.
Holding my drawing board, I returned to the dormitory, where Li Lu and Li Lily were chatting.
As soon as they saw me come back, they both immediately fell silent and looked at me with strange expressions.
I asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
Li Lu blinked and tentatively asked, "Lin Chu, did you spend the whole night in the classroom with Lu Weize?"
"…Yeah."
I nodded and said, "He was explaining some problems to me."
Li Lu and Li Lily exchanged glances, revealing ambiguous expressions.
I frowned and asked, "What’s with that look?"
Li Lu grinned and said, "Lin Chu, does Lu Weize have a crush on you?"
I was taken aback, my cheeks instantly turning red.
I stammered, "Y-You’re just talking nonsense…"
Li Lu smiled and said, "I'm not making things up. Lu Weize has never explained problems to any other girl, and when he looks at you, his gaze is clearly different."
I lowered my head, fiddling with the hem of my clothes, unsure of what to say.
Li Lily said, "Actually, I also think Lu Weize likes you."
I looked up at them, feeling a strange sense of panic in my heart.
Lu Weize likes me?
How could that be...
Li Lu said, "You don't know, Lu Weize used to be really arrogant. Many girls pursued him, but he ignored them all."
I blinked and asked curiously, "Did he have many girlfriends?"
Li Lu shook her head. "No, he has only dated two girlfriends."
I fell silent for a few seconds and softly asked, "What was he like before?"
Li Lu thought for a moment and said, "He was very smart, had excellent grades, and was really good at fighting, so a lot of people were afraid of him."
I nodded and asked again, "Then why has he changed now?"
Li Lu sighed, "I’m not really sure about the details, but it seems to be related to his family."
I blinked and said nothing.
Li Lu looked at me and smiled, "But he’s really impressive now. If it weren't for him, I don't know how much trouble Lili and I would be in."
I nodded, feeling a bit warm inside.
Li Lu looked at me and whispered, "Lin Chu, if Lu Weize really likes you, have you thought about it?"
My cheeks flushed slightly as I shook my head, "I... I haven't thought it through yet."
Li Lu patted my shoulder, "It's okay, take your time."
"…Yeah."
I lay on the bed, closed my eyes, and the handsome face of Lu Weize appeared in my mind.
My heart suddenly raced.
I quickly opened my eyes and slapped my face.
What am I thinking about!
That night, I had a dream.
I dreamed that Lu Weize was kissing a beautiful girl.
I stood there in a daze, watching them kiss.
My heart ached painfully, as if it were being cut by a knife.
I turned and ran away, tears streaming down my face.
...
After waking up, I stared at the ceiling, unable to calm my emotions for a long time.
The dream felt so real, so real that I almost believed it had actually happened.
But I knew it was just a dream.
Why did I have such a dream?
Could it be...
I really liked Lu Weize?
Chapter 17
After finishing my meal in the cafeteria, I prepared to return to the classroom to study.
Suddenly, Li Lu called me: "Lin Chu, where are you?"
I replied, "I'm in the cafeteria, what's up?"
Li Lu sounded anxious: "Hurry to the playground, Lu Weize and Qiao Qiran are about to fight!"
I was startled, hung up the phone, and quickly ran toward the playground.
There were many people on the playground. I looked around but couldn't see Lu Weize or Qiao Qiran.
I stopped Zhao Xinghai: "Where's Lu Weize?"
Zhao Xinghai raised an eyebrow when he saw me: "Oh, Sister Lu is here."
I awkwardly said, "Don't call me that. Where's Lu Weize?"
Zhao Xinghai shrugged: "I don't know."
I then looked at Cao Da.
Cao Da sighed: "If you really want to know, just go look behind the playground yourself."
I turned and ran toward the back of the playground.
Behind the school was a large mountain, rarely visited by anyone. It was desolate and eerie.
I walked along the muddy path, calling out: "Lu Weize... Lu Weize..."
No one responded.
I continued walking deeper into the area when suddenly, I noticed some movement in the grass beside me.
I stopped in my tracks, keeping a wary eye on the bushes.
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from the grass: “...Lin Chu?”
I paused for a moment, then let out a sigh of relief.
I quickly walked over and pushed aside the grass.
Lu Weize was lying on the ground, one hand behind his head, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth, squinting up at me.
He looked as if he had just woken up.
I frowned and asked, “What are you doing lying here?”
Lu Weize smirked, “Just enjoying the shade.”
I pressed my lips together and crouched down to look at him. “Are you okay?”
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow. “What could possibly be wrong with me?”
I stared at him for a moment and noticed that the corner of his mouth was cut and there were bruises on his face.
I reached out to touch his wound. “Did you get into a fight with Qiao Qiran?”
Lu Weize grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his embrace.
I lay against his chest, listening to the strong rhythm of his heartbeat.
Lu Weize looked at me, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Worried about me?"
My cheeks flushed slightly as I struggled to sit up. "Let go of me."
He wrapped his arms around my waist, refusing to release me. "Just let me hold you a little longer."
With no other choice, I lay in his embrace, allowing him to hold me.
Neither of us spoke; the surroundings were quiet, filled only with our breathing.
Suddenly, Lu Weize asked, "Why are you here?"
I lifted my head to look at him. "I heard you and Qiao Qiran were going to fight, so..."
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow. "So you came to mediate?"
I lowered my gaze. "I don't want you two to fight."
He chuckled softly. "Why not?"
I paused for a few seconds before whispering, "I don't like violence."
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow again. "What about me?"
I was taken aback, not quite understanding his meaning.
He smirked. "If I were to fight someone else, would you worry about me?"
I hesitated for a few seconds before gently nodding my head.
Lu Weize looked at me, his eyes slightly narrowed. "Are you more worried about me than about Qiao Qiran?"
I lowered my gaze and said nothing.
Lu Weize pinched my chin, lifting my head so I could meet his eyes directly.
He stared at me, his gaze intense. "Speak."
I swallowed hard and replied softly, "Mm."
Lu Weize smiled with satisfaction. "That's more like it."
I blinked and cautiously asked, "Are you really okay?"
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow. "What, do I look like I'm not okay?"
I shook my head and asked again, "How did you end up fighting with Qiao Qiran?"
Lu Weize snorted. "That kid deserves a beating."
I frowned. "Because he bullied me?"
Lu Weize looked at me and ruffled my hair. "Don't overthink it."
I lowered my gaze again and murmured, "I feel like I'm quite a burden, always dragging you down."
Lu Weize chuckled lightly. "You silly girl, you're quite understanding."
I looked up at him. "Why do you want to help me?"
Lu Weize raised his eyebrows: "You want to know?" "...Yeah." Lu Weize smiled: "Then let's play a game." "...What game?" Lu Weize raised his hand and stretched out three fingers: "Rock Paper Scissors, whoever loses gets to answer the other person's question first." I hesitated for a few seconds and nodded: "Okay." Lu Weize said: "Then I'll go first." He stretched out a hand and clenched his fist. I also clenched my fist like him. Lu Weize looked at me with a sly smile on his face: "Rock Paper Scissors!" He chose scissors. And I chose rock. I won. I cheered excitedly: "Yeah, I won!"
Lu Weize helplessly said, "You're quite lucky."
I chuckled and stared at him, "You lost, so you have to answer me one question."
Lu Weize nodded, "Go ahead."
I took a deep breath and mustered my courage to ask, "Why did you help me?"
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow, "Are you that curious?"
"…Yeah."
Lu Weize looked at me and suddenly sighed, "Well, who told me I have a soft heart?"
I blinked in confusion, "What did you say?"
Lu Weize smirked, "I said I have a soft heart."
I was puzzled, "What does that mean?"
Lu Weize ruffled my hair, "It means I can't stand to see girls being wronged."
My cheeks flushed as I murmured softly, "Then why are you being so nice to me?"
Lu Weize chuckled lightly, "Guess."
I shook my head, "I can't guess."
Lu Weize smiled, "Then take your time to guess."
"......"
I pouted, feeling unwilling: "You're being unreasonable."
Lu Weize laughed heartily: "I am being unreasonable. What are you going to do about it?"
"......"
I glared at him, fuming: "I'm not playing with you anymore!"
I stood up to leave, but Lu Weize tightly hugged me, not letting me go.
I struggled, and accidentally tripped, falling onto him.
I lay in his arms, looking at him.
Lu Weize looked back at me, his gaze intense.
I felt his warm breath on my face, making my cheeks burn even more.
I hurriedly averted my gaze, my heart racing.
Lu Weize's deep voice sounded: "This time, it's you who took the initiative."
My cheeks flushed red as I stammered: "I... I didn't mean to."
Lu Weize smirked: "I don't care. Since you've already hugged me, you have to take responsibility."
I lifted my head to look at him: "You... you're being unreasonable."
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow. "I'm just being unreasonable, so what?"
I glared at him, gritting my teeth.
Lu Weize looked at me and suddenly leaned down to kiss my lips.
I widened my eyes, shocked as I stared at him.
Lu Weize closed his eyes, kissing me more intently.
My first kiss...
Just like that, it was gone...
I raised my hand and pushed him away forcefully.
Lu Weize finally released me.
I stood up, covering my lips, glaring at him fiercely. "Lu Weize, you jerk!"
Lu Weize licked his lips and smiled wickedly. "Lin Chu, this is what you owe me."
I glared at him, trembling with anger.
Lu Weize stood up, brushed off the grass from his clothes, and looked at me. "Want to keep playing?"
I gritted my teeth. "Let's play!"
I had to win against him just once!
Lu Weize smiled and said, "Then you go first this time."
I clenched my fist and extended my scissors.
Lu Weize chose rock.
He won.
I said gloomily, "How come you won again?"
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow and replied, "Because I'm awesome."
I protested, "You can ask now."
Lu Weize thought for a moment and looked at me, "Lin Chu, have you ever had a boyfriend?"
I was taken aback for a moment, my cheeks slightly flushed. "No... I haven't."
Lu Weize exclaimed in surprise, "Really?"
"...Yeah."
Lu Weize stared at me, his eyes narrowing slightly. "That's impossible. You're so beautiful; there must be many boys chasing after you."
I lowered my gaze and softly said, "I haven't thought about those things."
Lu Weize watched me for a moment before suddenly leaning closer to my ear. "Then what have you thought about?"
I looked up at him, my cheeks flushed. "You... why do you care about me?"
Chapter 18
When I returned to the dormitory, Li Lu had not come back yet.
The crescent moon hung high, and the night sky was clear.
Qiao Qiran was clutching his stomach, staggering along the cold street.
The streetlight elongated his shadow, making him appear particularly lonely.
A car rushed by, splashing him with dirty water.
"Damn it!"
Qiao Qiran cursed, looking up to see a girl standing not far away.
The girl was wearing a white dress, her long hair cascading down her shoulders, looking at him with concern.
It was... Li Lu.
Qiao Qiran frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Li Lu walked over and asked with concern, "Are you hurt? Is it serious?"
Qiao Qiran coldly stared at her. "Get lost."
Li Lu bit her lip and softly said, "Shall I take you to the hospital?"
Qiao Qiran didn't respond and continued walking ahead.
Li Lu hurried to catch up, saying, "Qiao Qiran, stop being stubborn. You've lost a lot of blood."
Qiao Qiran suddenly stopped and turned to look at her. "Do you have any right to say that?"
Li Lu was taken aback and replied softly, "I'm just worried about you."
Qiao Qiran scoffed, "Worried about me? Who do you think you are?"
Li Lu lowered her gaze and fell silent.
Qiao Qiran looked at her and suddenly felt irritated. "Why are you following me?"
Li Lu looked up at him. "I want to be with you."
Qiao Qiran stared at her for a moment before turning away and walking on.
Li Lu quickly caught up and silently walked beside him.
The two remained silent, neither speaking a word.
Qiao Qiran felt unbearable pain in his abdomen, and cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.
Noticing his discomfort, Li Lu suggested, "Qiao Qiran, let's stop by the pharmacy to get some medicine."
Qiao Qiran didn't reply, but his silence indicated agreement.
Li Lu hurried to a nearby pharmacy to buy medicine and handed it to Qiao Qiran.
Qiao Qiran took the medicine and said expressionlessly, "You can leave now."
Li Lu bit her lip and whispered, "I don't want to leave."
Qiao Qiran glanced at her and replied, "It's up to you."
After saying that, he continued walking ahead.
Li Lu followed closely behind.
After walking for a while, Qiao Qiran suddenly stopped.
Li Lu asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
Qiao Qiran pointed at a nearby budget hotel and said, "I'm tired and need to rest."
Li Lu's cheeks flushed as she lowered her head and softly said, "Then... I'll keep you company."
Qiao Qiran stared at her for a few seconds before smirking, "Sure."
Li Lu followed Qiao Qiran into the hotel, her heart racing with nervousness.
After checking in with his ID, Qiao Qiran walked straight into the elevator.
Li Lu hesitated for a few seconds before stepping inside as well.
The elevator doors slowly closed as it ascended.
Li Lu stole a glance at Qiao Qiran and found him looking down at his phone.
His profile was sharply defined, with a high nose bridge and thin lips pressed together, exuding a hint of coldness.
Li Lu couldn't help but feel a bit dazed.
It wasn't until the elevator dinged that she snapped back to reality.
Qiao Qiran had already stepped out of the elevator, and Li Lu hurried to catch up.
Qiao Qiran swiped his card to enter the room, took off his jacket, and casually hung it on a chair.
He turned to look at Li Lu and said, "I'm going to sleep."
Li Lu nodded, "Then you should sleep."
Qiao Qiran looked at her, "Aren't you leaving?"
Li Lu's cheeks flushed as she stammered, "I... I want to watch you sleep."
Qiao Qiran raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you afraid I might eat you?"
Li Lu lowered her gaze and softly replied, "I know you won't."
Qiao Qiran stared at her for a moment before suddenly walking over and cornering her against the wall.
He leaned in close to her face, locking eyes with her: "What makes you think I won't?"
Li Lu swallowed hard and nervously said, "B-because you never bully girls."
Qiao Qiran scoffed, "Then I'll bully you today."
Li Lu widened her eyes, looking at him in shock.
Qiao Qiran slowly leaned closer to her lips.
Just as their lips were about to touch, Li Lu suddenly closed her eyes.
Qiao Qiran paused for a moment.
After a brief silence, he straightened up, his tone laced with mockery, "You really dare to close your eyes."
Li Lu opened her eyes and looked at him, "Didn't you say you wouldn't force a girl?"
Qiao Qiran stared at her for a moment before scoffing again, "Childish."
With that, he turned and lay down on the bed, closing his eyes.
Li Lu bit her lip, feeling conflicted.
She walked to the side of the bed and softly said, "Qiao Qiran, can I help you apply some medicine?"
Qiao Qiran remained silent, seemingly asleep.
Li Lu sighed and crouched down, carefully unbuttoning his shirt to reveal his chest.
His abdomen was wrapped in bandages stained with blood.
Li Lu gently stroked his wound, saying, "Does it hurt a lot?"
Qiao Qiran kept his eyes closed and remained silent.
Li Lu poured some medicinal oil into her palm, warmed it up, and gently massaged his abdomen.
As she massaged, she softly said, "Qiao Qiran, why don't you go home?"
Qiao Qiran continued to keep his eyes shut and did not respond.
Li Lu sighed and continued her massage.
After an unknown amount of time, Li Lu's hands grew tired, and she stopped to look at Qiao Qiran.
He still had his eyes closed and seemed to have fallen asleep.
Li Lu smiled softly and whispered, "Good night."
She stood up and leaned down to kiss his cheek.
Qiao Qiran remained motionless.
Li Lu turned and left the room.
The moment the door closed, Qiao Qiran opened his eyes, staring at the ceiling with a complex expression.
Chapter 19
The next morning, I arrived at the classroom, and just as I sat down, I saw Qiao Qiran walking towards me.
He stood with his hands in his pockets, looking down at me from above. "Hey."
I looked up at him. "Is there something you need?"
Qiao Qiran frowned. "About yesterday, I'm sorry."
I didn't expect him to apologize, and I was taken aback for a moment before shaking my head. "It's fine."
Qiao Qiran stared at me for a moment and then snorted coldly. "Don't get too pleased with yourself. I'm not apologizing to you; I just don't want Lu Weize to misunderstand."
I smiled faintly. "I understand."
Qiao Qiran impatiently said, "You better know that."
I lowered my gaze, not wanting to engage with him.
Seeing that I was ignoring him, Qiao Qiran became somewhat irritated. "I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?!"
I pressed my lips together and remained silent.
Suddenly, Qiao Qiran reached out and slammed his hand on my desk. "I'm asking you a question!"
I flinched in surprise and looked up at him. "What are you doing?"
Qiao Qiran glared at me. "What kind of attitude is that?"
I frowned. "You're not my teacher; what does my attitude have to do with you?"
Qiao Qiran laughed in anger, "Fine, you have guts."
I couldn't be bothered to respond and lowered my head to continue with my homework.
Qiao Qiran stood in front of me, relentless, "Are you deaf?"
I clenched my fists, holding back my anger.
Seeing that I remained silent, Qiao Qiran grew even more arrogant, "Say something!"
I took a deep breath and looked up at him, "What do you want?"
Qiao Qiran sneered, "I just want to see how long you can keep this up."
I glared at him coldly, "Qiao Qiran, don't go too far."
Qiao Qiran dismissed me with a scoff, "I'm going too far; what are you going to do about it?"
Just as I was about to retort, suddenly a bottle of medicine flew over and hit Qiao Qiran in the chest.
He let out a grunt and staggered back two steps.
Looking down at the bottle that had fallen to the ground, he became furious and shouted, "Who the hell threw that?!"
"I did."
Lu Weize stood up from his seat, glaring coldly at him.
Qiao Qiran gritted his teeth, "Lu Weize, are you looking for trouble?!"
Lu Weize coldly snorted, "Why don't you try bullying Lin Chu again?"
Qiao Qiran glanced at me and sneered, "What if I do?"
Lu Weize narrowed his eyes, "Then don't blame me for being rude."
Qiao Qiran stared at Lu Weize for a moment, then bent down to pick up the medicine bottle and turned to leave.
I let out a sigh of relief and looked at Lu Weize gratefully, "Thank you."
Lu Weize looked at me and smiled gently, "No need to thank me."
My cheeks flushed slightly, and I quickly averted my gaze.
Lu Weize chuckled and sat down to continue his homework.
I took out my phone and messaged Lu Weize: [You were so cool just now~]
Lu Weize replied: [That's a must.]
I chuckled to myself, put my phone away, and continued with my homework.
Chapter 20
In the evening, after I finished showering and came out, I found Li Lu sitting on the bed, staring blankly.
I walked over and asked with concern, "Lu Lu, what's wrong?"
Li Lu looked up at me, her eyes red.
I was startled. "Have you been crying?"
Li Lu bit her lip and said softly, "Lin Chu, do you think Qiao Qiran would like me?"
I was taken aback.
Li Lu lowered her gaze and murmured, "I like him so much, but he doesn't even look at me..."
I sighed and wrapped my arms around her shoulders. "Lu Lu, don't say that."
Leaning against me, Li Lu sobbed, "I really like him. I would give him everything, but why doesn't he like me?"
I patted her back and comforted her, "Feelings can't be forced. Maybe Qiao Qiran just isn't right for you."
Li Lu sniffled, "But I really like him..."
I sighed again, unsure of how to comfort her.
Love is something that cannot be controlled.
Just like how I feel about Lu Weize...
I shook my head, not allowing myself to think wildly.
I held Li Lu and said softly, "Alright, stop crying. Get some rest early."
Li Lu sniffled and nodded, "Mm."
