“Director!” Tian Yuan wanted to persuade again, but O Haosheng interrupted him, “Even if I retreat, it would only delay death. It’s better to stay here and fight with you.”
Tian Yuan helplessly looked at the fallen comrades below the city wall, his expression filled with grief and despair. Was humanity really going to be extinguished?
“If only Bai Tang were here!” O Haosheng sighed.
Tian Yuan's eyes lit up. Right, there was still Bai Tang, that mysterious and powerful girl. If she were here, could she drive back these Mutated Animals and save the capital? Tian Yuan believed the Leaders must share his thoughts; otherwise, they wouldn’t have sent Yi Qian and Yang Kang back to heal. Although both were injured, their conditions were not worse than his. The reason for sending them back was likely because they were Bai Tang’s disciples; the Leaders wanted to protect them at least until Bai Tang appeared. It was clear that everyone was placing their hopes on the elusive Bai Tang.
“But we don’t know where Bai Tang is or if she can make it in time for this battle.”
O Haosheng sighed upon hearing this: “If even Yi Qian and the others can’t contact Bai Tang, we shouldn’t hold out too much hope.”
“Yes!” Tian Yuan replied, feeling both unwilling and hopeful, anxious yet powerless.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted as someone shouted, “Mecha, humanoid Mecha! Fatty, we’re saved!”
The shouter was a young person with yellow-tipped hair, likely dyed before the apocalypse, now mostly grown out to black with just a hint of yellow remaining at the tips.
“Huang Mao, I must be dreaming!” Fatty rubbed his eyes, inadvertently rubbing blood into them and causing discomfort.
“Of course not!” Huang Mao exclaimed excitedly. He and Fatty had previously participated in the campaign to reclaim the capital and had witnessed Bai Tang and Karen Adrian operating their Mechas. They had left a deep impression on them. In their subconscious, the two humanoid Mechas were incredibly powerful and surely capable of defeating these Mutated Animals.
“It’s Bai Tang!” Tian Yuan exclaimed in surprise, and O Haosheng was equally thrilled. They had never considered that Bai Tang might not be able to handle these Mutated Animals.
“Wait, why is there only one? Isn’t Karen Adrian coming?” Tian Yuan wondered as he looked at the solitary figure of the Mecha in the sky. Wasn’t Karen Adrian supposed to be with Bai Tang? However, he didn’t have time to dwell on this question; all his attention was drawn to Bai Tang’s battle.
As Bai Tang approached, the Tiger Leader sensed danger—a primal instinct of beasts. It recognized that the newcomer was extremely powerful and even posed a threat to itself. With a short roar, it summoned all the other Mutated Animals, except those fighting against the beast-type Mecha, to prepare for battle.
Looking at the dense mass of Mutated Animals between herself and the Tiger Leader, Bai Tang smirked and raised her great sword high before swinging it down. A massive silver light shot from her sword into the crowd of Mutated Animals. Wails and cries erupted as thousands of formidable foes fell beneath that one strike.
Shock… followed by terrified howls from the remaining Mutated Animals and cheers from humans. In that moment, they saw their savior. Many had participated in the campaign to reclaim the capital and had witnessed the power of KF-. No longer in despair, they placed all their hopes on Bai Tang. If she practiced divine arts, she would feel herself surrounded by countless milky-white powers of belief; even if she couldn’t see them, she sensed her body felt lighter than before, making her skills easier to wield.
Bai Tang did not disappoint; with one swing of her sword, she took thousands of lives from the Mutated Animals. Their numbers dwindled further as the ground beneath her feet turned red with their blood. Stepping over blood and limbs, she advanced calmly and leisurely while swinging her sword until she stood before the Tiger Leader.
“I know you can understand me. If you surrender and end your own life, I can let your remaining brethren go,” Bai Tang smiled at the Tiger Leader, offering a choice. “Otherwise, I will kill all of you!”
The Tiger Leader, fearing her intimidation, hesitated; it had worked hard to gain such strength—how could it willingly die? With a fierce roar, it commanded its brethren to attack Bai Tang, while it made a shocking move that left everyone stunned—turning around to flee.
"Haha," Bai Tang laughed, "Can you escape?"
There was no way to escape. Bai Tang would definitely not let Tiger Leader run away and leave hidden troubles for Beijing Base. If Tiger Leader had not organized this siege, she might have spared his life, but since Tiger Leader had taken the lead, he could not return alive. Bai Tang's actions were meant to kill the chicken to scare the monkey, deterring other Mutated Beast leaders lurking in the shadows.
It was time to unleash a big move! Everyone at Beijing Base looked up at the sky, which had turned from gray to red. Flames flickered within the clouds, and as Bai Tang waved her right hand downwards, flames fell from the sky like rain—beautiful yet filled with danger. As the fiery rain struck the Mutated Animals, they immediately ignited, turning into fireballs. When the fireballs extinguished, only piles of ash remained on the ground. Tiger Leader received the most attention from the fiery rain, leaving a larger area of ashes compared to other Mutated Animals.
Bai Tang took out a potion to replenish her energy. Although this move, "Fire Rain," was immensely powerful, it was extremely taxing. However, the results were remarkable; nearly 80% of the Mutated Animals participating in the siege perished under this attack, with only a few managing to escape. Bai Tang did not continue to hunt down these Mutated Animals; they were already scared out of their wits and could not stir up any more trouble.
"Long live Divine Sword Mecha! Long live Divine Sword Mecha Master!" Someone shouted first, and the others quickly followed suit, excitedly cheering along. Even the operators of ten beast-shaped Mechas couldn't help but shout loudly. The massive electronic sound nearly deafened everyone.
O Haosheng and Tian Yuan were also swept up by the atmosphere and shouted a couple of times before realizing and suppressing their excitement.
"Tian Yuan, will Bai Tang come directly over?"
Tian Yuan shook his head: "No. Bai Tang doesn't like to show off; she prefers to make money quietly. At this moment, she is most likely to escape."
As soon as he finished speaking, the gigantic and flashy Mecha turned and transformed into a silver streak, disappearing into the distance.
"Just as I thought..."
O Haosheng remained silent.
Bai Tang returned to Beijing Base after putting away her KF-1. The cleanup work was proceeding in an orderly yet chaotic manner. Amidst their sadness, everyone felt excitement as they discussed their Mecha hero. In their words, Bai Tang felt she had been mythologized! What ultimate weapon cultivated by the Nation? What Robot returning from Future World to save the masses... Bai Tang chuckled.
Yi Qian and Yang Kang also witnessed Bai Tang's impressive performance in battle and immediately took leave to wait for her at her residence in the capital. However, Bai Tang was faster than they expected; she had already returned home first and was sitting on the sofa eating while waiting for them.
"Master!" Yi Qian had not shown such teary-eyed emotion in a long time. "I'm so glad you made it back; I thought I would never see you again!"
"Scared?" Bai Tang took out a bottle of Red Medicine and handed each of them one. "Why don't you go back to The Legend of the Condor Heroes?"
Yi Qian shook his head: "This is the world where I was born and raised; no matter how dangerous it is, I won't abandon this world or my friends and family."
Yang Kang similarly shook his head: "That world may be safe, but it's not as interesting as this one." Besides, his Master was in this world.
"Suit yourselves! But something like today shouldn't happen again." With Tiger Leader as a 'chicken,' which foolish 'monkey' would dare jump out again?
Yi Qian and Yang Kang both sighed in relief. After experiencing such a battle where they were constantly on the brink of death, it was impossible not to feel apprehensive. The two opened their bottles and gulped down all the Red Medicine; their visible wounds disappeared before their eyes, and they felt an instant lightness in their bodies.
Looking at the smooth and shiny arm, there was a cut that had almost severed the left arm completely, but now it was nowhere to be seen. How miraculous! Grandmaster has quite a few good things! Yang Kang sighed, suddenly recalling the majestic Mecha on the battlefield; that Mecha was much cooler and more stylish than the Gundam in cartoons.
"Grandmaster, where's your Mecha? Can I borrow it to play with?" Yang Kang, who had not participated in the capital's recovery battle, did not know that such a cool Mecha actually belonged to his own Grandmaster. It wasn't until Yi Qian told him that the person operating the Mecha was Bai Tang that Yang Kang felt secretly pleased. If he mentioned it to his Grandmaster, would Grandmaster let him pilot the Mecha?
Bai Tang carefully scanned Yang Kang's physical data. At this stage of foundation building, both his body and Divine Sense exceeded the minimum standards for piloting a Humanoid Mecha. In contrast, Yi Qian, due to his previous weakness, had only just reached a level where he could barely pilot a Humanoid Mecha after forming his core.
"Kf— I can't let you play!" Facing Yang Kang's disappointed gaze, Bai Tang couldn't help but sigh at Yang Kang's ability to accept new things. This ancient person was even more modern and trendy than Yi Qian. "Next time I come, I'll bring two suitable Mechas for you and your Master. What kind of design do you want? Tell me now!"
"Grandmaster, you're such a great person!" Yang Kang exclaimed joyfully, jumping up and doing two flips in mid-air before landing excitedly. "I like the one you control; however, it should preferably be black, and I would love a pair of wings."
"What about you? What do you want?" Bai Tang turned to look at her equally excited disciple.
"Master, I'm fine with anything! Just choose whatever looks good," Yi Qian said with starry eyes; this child had difficulty making choices and thought everything looked good.
"Then I'll take charge for you!" Bai Tang nodded. "You both fought hard today; I'll make something delicious to reward you. What do you want to eat?" (To be continued)
