Yang Kang: "This woman is my sister?"
Yi Qian: "She is older than you, so she should be your elder sister. However, you have no blood relation; that girl is your father's adopted daughter."
There are many inconsistencies in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes": for example, Qu San settled in Niujia Village before Bao Xiruo and Li Ping became pregnant, which means that Mei Chaofeng and Chen Xuanyun had already stolen the "Nine Yin Manual." It is unclear whether Feng Heng is dead or alive, but she must have already been pregnant. By this calculation, Huang Rong should be older than Guo Jing, yet when she appears, Jin Yong defines her as fifteen years old, three years younger than Guo Jing—clearly a major flaw! Furthermore, there are discrepancies in the ages of Mu Nianci and Yang Kang. After Yang Tiexin was injured, he was saved by Mu Nianci. Once he recovered, he immediately returned to Niujia Village to find Bao Xiruo and Li Ping. After failing to locate them, he returned to the Mu family to thank his savior, only to discover that the entire family had died from illness, leaving behind a baby less than a year old. He then adopted the baby as his daughter. If we calculate carefully, Yang Tiexin's recovery wouldn't take more than three months at most. Adding travel time gives him about six months' leeway; Yang Kang would have just been born around that time—how could he be older than Mu Nianci? It's unreasonable, far too unreasonable!
"What do you think of her?" Yi Qian asked curiously. In the original text, Yang Kang showed considerable interest in Mu Nianci; otherwise, he wouldn't have challenged her to a duel and taken her embroidered shoes, thus starting a complicated relationship.
"She's just okay! Just slightly better looking than average," Yang Kang replied, puzzled by Yi Qian's tone as if he might have some connection with the woman below, feeling a sense of wariness rise within him.
Yi Qian carefully observed Yang Kang's expression and realized he indeed had no special feelings for Mu Nianci. He couldn't help but feel conflicted: if these two didn't end up together, wouldn't Yang Guo become a butterfly?
While both were lost in their thoughts, the drama below was already captivating: without Wanyan Kang present, Ouyang Ke had arrived and easily defeated Mu Nianci, demanding that she return with him as his concubine. Naturally, Mu Nianci and Yang Tiexin disagreed, prompting Ouyang Ke's female disciples to start grabbing her. The justice-driven Guo Daxia stepped in to stop them but was beaten into a pulp due to the vast difference in combat power. Huang Rong quickly jumped out to help; however, her martial arts skills were not impressive enough to match Ouyang Ke. Yang Tiexin attempted to stab Ouyang Ke with his spear but was swatted aside by Ouyang Ke's fan and spat out blood.
Although Yang Kang felt no affection for his suddenly appearing biological father, he couldn't just stand by and watch Yang Tiexin being bullied. He leaped down from the window of the tavern and swiftly took down Ouyang Ke and his entourage of concubines. Yang Shaoxia showed no mercy; those beautiful concubines were not to his liking and suffered greatly from his attacks while Ouyang Ke received special treatment—his handsome face became a palette of bruises since he had injured Yang Kang's father!
"Who are you? Why did you hurt someone?" The first to complain was the ruthless Peng Lianhu, who had accompanied Ouyang Ke. Initially watching from the sidelines, they had no choice but to intervene after seeing Ouyang Ke get beaten up; after all, they were part of the same group. Ouyang Ke's misfortune also reflected poorly on them.
Yang Kang ignored Peng Lianhu and walked straight over to Yang Tiexin, helping him up from the ground while using his spiritual energy to circulate through Yang Tiexin's body to nourish his injured organs.
"Thank you, young master!" Yang Tiexin expressed gratefully. Although this young master appeared cold and unapproachable, he felt no fear; instead, he found him very amiable and wanted to get closer.
Mu Nianci hurried over to support Yang Tiexin while casting shy glances at Yang Kang, clearly infatuated. Indeed, his handsome appearance and impressive martial arts skills made him far more appealing than the debauched young master depicted in the original story.
"My name is Yang Kang from Niujia Village in Lin'an!" Yang Kang stated flatly. "My mother is Bao Xiruo!"
"You... you..." The name "Yang Kang" thundered in Yang Tiexin's ears like a clap of thunder, shaking him deeply as he trembled and asked, "What did you say your name was?"
Yang Kang: "My name is Yang Kang!"
“Master, open your eyes!” Yang Tiexin burst into tears and grabbed Yang Kang's hand, “Child, I am your father, your biological father!”
“I know!” Yang Kang replied calmly, “My Master told me!”
“Who is your Master?” Yang Tiexin asked in surprise, “Could it be Qiu Daozhang?”
“It’s me!” Yi Qian walked out from the tavern, “Brother Yang, long time no see!”
“Who are you?” Yang Tiexin looked at the youth who appeared younger than his own son with confusion. The other person called him brother in a familiar tone, which was quite shocking. He had no memory of such a youth.
“My name is Yi Qian. Eighteen years ago, I was injured and fell into your home. You and Sister Yang saved me!” Yi Qian reminded him.
“It’s you!” Yang Tiexin finally remembered the strange boy who had appeared injured before the great upheaval. He exclaimed in astonishment, “It’s been over a decade, and you haven’t changed at all!”
Yi Qian smiled, “It’s because of my cultivation method!”
“I see!” Yang Tiexin had heard of martial arts that could preserve one’s youth in the martial world and thought to himself that Yi Qian's sect must be extraordinary. He was happy that his son could have such a High Master. “Brother Yi, thank you for teaching Kang’er all these years! By the way, I want to ask how my wife is doing? Where is she?”
Yang Tiexin was eager to see his wife, but unfortunately, reality dealt him a heavy blow.
Yi Qian’s expression darkened as he spoke with guilt, “I’m sorry, I didn’t take good care of Sister Yang. She died after giving birth to Yang Kang due to complications!”
“Xie Ruo…” Yang Tiexin trembled all over, tears streaming down his face, “It’s my fault; it’s all my fault! I should have returned to find them sooner! It’s my fault; my fault…”
“Father!” Mu Nianci hurriedly tried to comfort Yang Tiexin, “You were injured and couldn’t return to see mother and brother; they would understand you!”
“Brother!” Yi Qian corrected him, “Yang Kang was born after you; he is younger than you!”
Mu Nianci was taken aback, her face flushed red. She cast a resentful glance at Yang Kang, lowered her head, and fell silent, as if she had suffered an immense grievance. Yang Kang shivered, his resolve to keep his distance from this woman growing stronger.
"Yes, yes, Nian Ci, Kang Er is your brother. From now on, you two siblings should support each other!" Yang Tiexin, completely unaware of his adopted daughter's feelings, unwittingly added salt to her wounds.
"Yes!" Mu Nianci replied softly, her heart already shattered into pieces.
"The people on the ground are the retainers of Prince Wanyan Honglie. I'm afraid Wanyan Honglie will send troops to deal with us. We should leave the capital first and find a safe place to catch up!" Yi Qian reminded everyone. Although he and Yang Kang were not afraid of Wanyan Honglie's subordinates, they had to consider the ordinary people around them.
"Right, right, let's hurry and leave!" Yang Tiexin immediately urged Mu Nianci to pack their belongings. Yang Kang hesitated for a moment before stepping forward to help.
"Brothers, come with us!" Yi Qian called out to Guo Jing and Huang Rong. Just as he was catching up with Yang Tiexin, Huang Rong was helping Guo Jing prepare to leave.
"No need!" Huang Rong quickly rejected Yi Qian's offer. She had not forgotten that Guo Jing was injured while standing up for Mu Nianci and naturally wanted to cut off any contact between Guo Jing and Mu Nianci.
"Miss Huang, your brother Guo is seriously injured; I can help him heal!" Yi Qian had a good impression of Guo Jing and Huang Rong and wanted to get to know them better.
"You... how do you know my surname is Huang, and that I am..." a girl? The last part Huang Rong did not say out loud.
Yi Qian's beautiful eyes curved into a smile, looking like an innocent young man who had just stepped out of his home. He spoke with a hint of pride: "I also know you come from Peach Blossom Island in the East Sea!"
"You know my father?" Huang Rong asked in surprise. She seemed to have heard this young person looked like this eighteen years ago; with such youthful looks, this senior must be extraordinary, likely on par with the Five Greats.
"I admire him but have never met him." Yi Qian decided that after resolving Yang Kang's matter, he would follow behind Guo Jing and Huang Rong to meet Huang Yaoshi.
Then Yi Qian turned to Guo Jing and said: "This Brother Yang is your father's sworn brother. If you come with us out of the city, I will let you two meet!"
Guo Jing was extremely excited upon hearing this and ran up to Yi Qian: "Is it true?"
"You leave with us from Zhongdu, and then when you meet Brother Yang again, you'll naturally know what's true and what's false."
"Alright, I'll go with you!" Guo Jing nodded vigorously. Huang Rong couldn't stop him and could only accompany him as they joined Yi Qian's group.
"Please wait a moment, brother!" Just as everyone was about to leave, a Daoist blocked their path. The Daoist was in his forties, with long eyebrows and bright eyes, a sparse black beard under his chin, wearing white socks and gray shoes, draped in a gray robe, and holding a whisk in his hand, resembling a very well-groomed Taoist priest.
Everyone was startled and stared at the Daoist warily, thinking he might also be one of Wanyan Honglie's subordinates. Only Yi Qian knew the Daoist's true identity.
"Are you the Daoist Priest known as Ironfoot Immortal, Yuyangzi Wang Zhenren?"
The Daoist replied, "You flatter me. I am indeed Wang Chuyi, but I dare not accept the title of 'Zhenren'."
Wang Chuyi was one of the Quanzhen Seven Disciples. Yang Tiexin had naturally heard of his name and hurriedly stepped forward to pay his respects, mentioning his relationship with Qiu Chuji. Wang Chuyi suddenly understood: "So Yang Kang is the child my senior brother has been searching for all these years. Brother Yang will surely be very happy to know that he is not dead!"
He then turned to Guo Jing and asked, "Brother, have you learned the internal skills and Golden Goose Technique of our Quanzhen Sect? Who taught you?"
"It was Danyangzi Master Ma!"
